I quit

  • This game has become stupid. I spend a couple hours finding treasure to get sunk by a skeleton ship but i took the treasure by rowboat to an island, regenerate and go all the way back to the island, pick up the loot only to get eaten by the Kraken on the way to the outposr. I got better things to do than this. Better tell the wife and kids Im back. Goid bye once beautiful game.

It does sound like a bad day out but there are good days ahead too if you give it another chance. Honestly, things have changed recently and did become more difficult for everyone (especially the solo sloopers that are new to the game) with this latest update but a lot of things are easier now too. I challenge you to stick with the game. If I quit when things got hard I wouldn't have played a week after release and I play everyday. Give it another go, the world can be harsh but it's so beautiful at the same time!

  • Everybody has their bad days on Sea of Thieves, whether it be being taken by the Kraken or killed by another player. And I get it, it can be frustrating. I've been there. But that doesn't stop me from playing the game. If you start to rage because of a video game then that's a good sign to turn off the Xbox or PC for a bit and take a break and then go back to it later on a new server.

My point is, you shouldn't let these bad experiences put you off the game. Especially if you like playing it.

  • @captainluke56 you need a new perspective. Sure, you lost treasure, but it doesn't get you much. Instead you got to solo fight skeleton ships and the Kraken. Keep it up and soon enough they are easy to take on as well.
Take a break and come back to tackle the challenge again.

    See you on the seas!

  • @timboagogo solo sloopers got it rough out there. I have to admit I don’t want to solo anymore. But the games so much more fun with a crew now

  • Yup, solo sloop life ain't the easy ride it once was. I've been doing open crews and LFG and I have had some of the most epic moments I've ever had in my 40 years of video gaming. I am really impressed at the emergent game play and surprised that the game runs really well on console even when there are so many things going on.

But, yea, I'll miss that easy solo sloop session. Rare should add a baby zone with no monsters... easy mode.

  • @straw-hat-blake where are you finding these good crews?

Every one I've joined has been a joke; no one talks, they do moronic things, and once they've completely ruined the trip, they log, only to be replaced by more Mutes who have the mentality of poorly-trained monkeys.

Seriously, I have more luck when I bring my 6 year old out on a sloop; at least he controls the anchor and bails when needed.

  • @captainluke56 Yep, sounds like a bad game day to me. I have spent a few hours the last two days just sailing around and love the game so much more now and we, wife, kid, and I lost a little treasure when we got double teamed by meg, don, or the other new named beast and a skeleton ship and it was pure kaos but tons of fun. Sorry you had the loss but what an adventure.

  • @captainluke56

The game has become more hazardous for sure. We asked for content and boy, did we get it - can we rise to meet the challenge? I think so.
Remembering back to the cursed sails dlc and forsaken shores, I think we're still in that 'what the heck just happened' phase where get to sample all these new random delights and it's a steep learning curve. But we got this.

I know we've been pummelled by skellie ships, followed by the kraken and Meg joining in just for laughs and lost a LOT of plunder. It is still possible though, to make safe haven with it all intact - the usual rules apply, turn in often, keep your weather eye on the horizon and yer fingers crossed!

Here's @Pikaaroon's latest adventure as another example -

  • @profchaos74 I find good crews via the LFG feature of XBL, where I can set it to:

    • adults only
    • experienced players only
    • mic required
    • cooperative

...and if anyone responds, I can check their voyages completed to ensure that they're not new to the game, nor a quitter (I won't play with anyone with less than 200).

  • Don't be like that mate! You had a rough night! Even Legends have bad nights mate, so don't worry about it. And think of it this way, if you always won where would the fun be? You can do this, I know you can. This Legend believes in you!

  • @straw-hat-blake
Yeah I gotta agree with ya. I'm PLA6 and do about 80% or more solo because I'm fussy who I play with. I do feel for people new to the game especially. It's just that Kraken that bothers me though, especially when it sucks you up and spits you out half a nautical mile away from your ship. Hard to patch holes from that distance. Or when 2 skelly ships turn up with the Kraken, that's not very fair and that has happened to me twice now. OMG!

  • Ahoy there!

Just note not all tales you live to tell!

  • Hug the shores and rock formations to decrease the spawning chances. A Meg will now attack you near islands so your best bet is to avoid the straits from one island to the next. You can easily lose the skelly ships or better yet get them stuck in rock formations and sink them by using this same tactic. Good luck and Godspeed.

    Hello CaptainLuke56.
Well, Sir , with all the respect i can give , every new addition or DLC or whatever name can be placed on the recent new stuff, it all took us some time to adapt. When the game was released ,it felt " empty" for many...Truckloads of negative comments and goodbye announcements were made. And yes, many left ...And missed out on a whole lot of new things that have given Sea of Thieves even more charater than it had...Remember Forsaken Shores , a beautiful rather dark and scary addition in wich the Pirate was forced to be on his/her guard of geysers and erupting volcanoes....Whole forests were cut down to repair and keep our ships aflaot , but days went by and the Pirate that loved the Sea before , refused to be bested by some Volcano rocks and ...adapted...

The complaints stayed , lesser in number , and what happened ? Rare took a bow, and made Devil's Roar easier and what have i read multiple times now? " Please make Devil's Roar harder again, it's too easy"...First they burn Mrs Preston and her team on a pyre , but after adapting and trying, yep in a fall and get up scenario, many have regrets of that complaint and want it restored in it's old Glory....Me too, by the way, i loved the challenge Mother Nature had for us in The Devil's Roar...

Today , the complaint is that the Seas have become too rough...Skeleton ships, Meggi, Krakki, Forts , Storms and Fog are all have been wished to burn on a pyre...NO...i love the challenge , and yes , it beats me but just like good old Rocky i get up and sail again because i simply love a challenging game and i love the Sea and all that surrounds it...

It is my love and joy for the game that pushes me forward into adapting and find new ways to bring my treasures home...Not many games offer a game where the player needs to take so much in account in order to survive...i played Solo Sloop yesterday, i was tired after work.i took the controller , emptied each and every barrel and made sail.i wasn't hundred meters from the shore or a Skelly Galleon appeared ...i opened fire first, gave it all i had but once they had found me they returned the "gift"...i was bailing repairing ,and shooting if the situation on the ship let me .
And i had one of the most tenacious times since i played SOT with the AI...
i find this a real threat now and not a lame shootingpractise it was , before Shrouded Spoils. And oh, yes , they forced me to crash on an island , they beached me , and...did sail around the island...By the time they were around, old George had repaired his sloop , turned it to the open Sea and gave them a walloping...Not much later a Friend jumped in and it was curtains for this Skelly ship...

Krakki came to squeeze us , and we had a draw, we escaped , she lived but we will meet again...

Look, Sir , a game , any game you play has a chance that you walk out as a loser, no i don't mean this as an offensive word , i mean one day you win , and thats' nice and one day you lose...If you have learnt from yer loss ,you have won in the long run...If you bow yer head and admit that an AI is better than you , then you have really lost...

You have walked upon an unsuspected uppercut , you went down, took the 8- count and now a new round awaits...You lost one round, just one...Are you going to throw that towel in so quickly?...What does Rare say every time, over and over again? " Be More Pirate"...For those that quickly give this motto a glimpse without thinkong further , it means nothing or maybe a "lame " motto ...

But...Every new Addition, DLC , whatver has forced you to change yer style, yer routine , every DLC has forced you to find new ways , to cope with what is thrown at you and those that have quit for months , regret today that they have missed so much...Be " More" Pirate , find new ways , read and listen to the other Brothers and Sisters of the Coast and learn from their writings , steal with yer eyes when you meet them and see them fighting in the game...Adapt, lose and...get up and fight again...

Sea of Thieves is somewhat a strange reflexion of life itself, you get a setback , you are dazed but the human instinct is to fight back and repair what has been broken or taken away...i took a few on the chin yesterday but today i will be back at the Sea and with a dagger, where foam drips off, and with an unseen tenacity...i'm not great in Person vs Person fights but bowing to an AI? Not over my dead body ,Sir...

What say ye ? We all wanted to have more "spice " in the Sea , now that we got it , we back down? ....Nah, not me Sir...i like a good rumbble and tossle , let them come...There is at least one Old Pirate that will fight them as long as he draws breath...

@profchaos74 , Hello Sir , i want to answer your question called " Where do you find good crews?" . Why , Sir , you have come to the right place ...
Make a Topic , Something like" experienced Pirates wanted, please"...i'll bet you will get answers or....ask one of the many Fleets out here if you could play as a trail evening...You don't have to join them immediatly...Just ask it and you may get a "yes " for an answer...
" Wich Fleet" i hear you say? Well, my Good Pirate , i honestly don't know them all but i have been hearing good things about the Rogue Legends Fleet, The Fortune Fleet to name a few on wich i have sailed with a few members and they are all Goodhearted ,Friendly and very cunning Pirates...

In Sea of Thieves you never have to sail alone if you don't want to ...Reach out on this Forum ,Sir and you will get so many offerings that you need a week or maybe two to apply to all of them...

CaptainLuke and ProChaos , i wish you both Good Luck, Sirs . May the winds be in yer Favour and Gold reflecting in yer Eyes...Take care , Sirs.

  • Lol gotta agree. Rare was like "you want content I'll give you content" and just increased the spawn rate of all hostiles by 100%. game is nearly impossible on a solo sloop. Athena's voyage put metal skellies at the top of devil's ridge. Took me 40 min just to clear them to get attacked by skeleton ship, and Meg at the same time. 30 planks later I got away and was attacked by the kraken. It's pathetic. 4 hour voyage... I feel rare is just flipping me the bird.

  • You could always take a row boat everywhere. The kraken, Meg and skeletons can't see them.

  • I think one way Rare gets an idea of what works and what doesn't is once they put out a new update, they crank up the difficulty higher then normal. They pay attention to statistics and feedback. If their feedback isn't backed up by the stats then they ignore. But if it matches they make tweaks and changes. I think you'll find in a week or two they will adjust and tone down certain things. They want to please everyone ideally, but that is not always possible. Actually it isn't possible. So you try to please the greatest proportion of players and keep the disappointed one to a minimum. It's a business after all is said and done. Stick it out for another few weeks or take a break and come back later. I'm willing to bet you have a better experience because by then they will have made some adjustments.

  • @profchaos74 said in I quit:

It takes a few tries sometimes, but I always find a good crew that I can friend and play with when they’re online
