Fishing

  • Let’s be honest, despite best efforts to make the game fun and constantly enjoyable, sailing long distances can be a very boring and tedious task. Once you get going, besides small adjustments, you really just try to fill the time goofing off with your mates.

I think another time filler could be added to the game for not only enjoyment, but to make the game feel more rewarding as well. This, of course, is fishing. Fishing poles could be added to the equipment shop and while you’re out sailing, or stuck keeping an eye out while your mates search for treasure, you could be fishing.

The idea is that you could have a fishing net on all the boats, or a bucket or something. This itself could even be customizable in the shipwright shop. While you’re out at sea you could collect fish of all different types and store them in this net or bucket. Then, when you return to an outpost, you can make a little money from selling them to the Merchant Alliance. You get paid off of the type of fish and how many you catch. It would add an activity to do during down time, and you could make a little more gold. You could also add fish to the contracts the Merchant Alliance gives you, so you could make even more money doing it as an actual task.

I really do feel like this alone would add so much to the game.

  • You should be adjusting the sails, on lookout for threats or points of interest, navigating, getting drunk, playing music, or manning the helm. I don't think it's possible to go fishing from a Galleon at top speed.

  • There should be a new Npc that tasks you with catching certain fish in certain areas.

  • @blam320 It’s also not possible to repair cannonball sized holes in the hull of a ship with some soggy 2 by 4’s, fire yourself 100 feet in the air out of a cannon, or dig up a 1000 chests over and over in the same 3 feet of sand. The game is abnormally silly at heart, who cares if it’s a little slightly unrealistic to catch a fish from a moving boat, which it isn’t, entirely.
