So this suggestion has no practical cause in the game. At all. It adds no real value, and will do nothing to either greatly improve or detract from the game experience.
That being said... this is something I've wanted for quite awhile, for nothing except goofing around to the ultimate extent. And I figured that even though this is a huge shot in the dark, it is better suggested than just a wish.
The only change to the shovel that I would suggest... is that it has the ability to ignite gunpowder barrels.

While this has no real use, it would just be a fun mechanic to have in the game. I'm specifically thinking of the surprise aspect. I play the game largely with one other friend, and we enjoy "scaring" each other with gunpowder barrels at random points. Imagine the pure and utter shock someone would be in to see you explode a gunpowder barrel with your shovel... I would give a lot just to hear that reaction. It also just adds another fun way to do gunpowder barrels in the game. I know that Rare is already working on balancing and improving powder kegs, so since they are already messing with them, this would just be something I would love to see added.
I know it has no use whatsoever. I know that it has no chance whatsoever of being added. And I know that this is possibly one of the most outlandish, wildest, and possibly stupidest suggestions to be put on these forums.
Yet here I am, on my knees, shovel in hand, begging to have the ability to explode the barrel in front of me.
So, for your consideration: exploding gunpowder barrels via shovel. Thank you for your time.
(Just on the very off chance that someone brings this up: this doesn't really change the griefing/trolling aspect of this (does anyone even say trolling anymore?). You can already be a Debbie Downer and cause massive damage to your own team with these without needing the shovel, so this doesn't really change any of that :P)
