Hey, huge fan of this game and love it. But I was thinking maybe there can be gold/doubloons to purchase with real money or maybe give out weekly codes or missions that gives out gold/doubloons to help out with that annoying grinding especially since some cosmetics won't be available for long. The items in the shop are permanently available... The exclusive items are not for sale... So buying gold wont help you at all. :P

If you really want to pay for cosmetics, buy the controller and the black dog pack. Having the option to buy gold in game is a bad idea, because everything that people bought now is earned through hard work, otherwise it could be earned by just paying some cash, and no one would know the difference.

The Shark Hunter Hull, Flag, Figurehead and Sails are permanent additions to the shop mate, it's part of the EXPANSION package... The 7 exclusive items include the following (May not be properly named, since i didn't bother memorizing their exact names):
Shark Hunter Title
Shark SLAYER Title
Shark Hunter Tattoo
Shark Bite SCAR
Shark Hunter DRUM
Shark Hunter Speaking Trumpet
The Hungering One Figurehead
If the Shark Hunter Hull, Figurehead, Sails and Flag (Along with the plain-coloured sails) were also exclusive to the event, then the only thing the Hungering Deep update would permanently add to the game is the new AI threat, The Hungering One, nothing else... That doesn't make any sense, mate.

They weren't removed from the shop, they're exclusive to specific outposts in-game, dude... They're still in the game, you can go fetch them, right now, if you want to.

@mrdeathtroy I'm pretty sure they removed a lot due to complaints for skins that were not distinct enough. I could be wrong though.
@mrdeathtroy I honestly hope this is never a thing and didn't they already say no micro trans? I might be thinking of another game..so don't quote me on that one..but anyway I feel like earning the gold to buy the set or items you want is way more rewarding than saying "yeah guys look at my cool outfit that I got for $10"...that is kinda boring. but you are right about the grind! But that just makes you feel even more powerful when you get the dope skin! :P and another thing..the ship skin is here to stay..the only things that are leaving the game are limited items that you DO NOT buy with gold.
If it is an issue of cosmetics I would rather just see limited time cosmetics pop up in a cash shop...there is a good chance I will miss a lot of limited stuff but if I miss one I like I would throw a few bucks at a cash shop to get the item.
I am not really a fan of the whole 'purchase gold' thing and because of that I hope they don't do it. To be fair I guess some people like the option...sadly I can't argue against it as it won't(or shouldn't) effect me. I will keep at the grind...

Wouldn't bother me, and it would give Rare some cash flow. There is no pay to win when nothing you can buy gives you any real advantage. And if someone rolls up with gear they bought that I've "worked" for, so what? Come on, I don't work for free in my spare time, I play the game because it's fun. To be fair, it's the ones buying with real money who actually works for it.
As others have said, with the only exclusive gear that will be going away are the things given free for participating in/completing the campaign. The ship cosmetics were made available for everyone to purchase regardless of participation in the campaign - they will be staying.
One of the things about gold is that the cosmetics can give some indication of experience. This can influence gameplay. Having the ability to purchase gold would remove that aspect entirely.
