  • @warmonger0351 Delayed until later this week (possibly tomorrow, according to the comments).

  • @luciansanchez82

"SeaOfThieves will be offline tomorrow from 9am – 2pm BST for server maintenance. Patch 1.0.8 will see the return of giving and taking items, with new additions such as aim sensitivity customisation, an update for our red-green colour blind pirates - and more!"

"Scheduled maintenance has been completed and #SeaOfThieves is now back online! We're just applying a few final tweaks to our upcoming patch, which you can expect to see this later this week along with the accompanying patch notes."

Sigh guys. You've learned nothing from last weeks communication debacle ... The first quote implies the patch is coming today. If it wasn't, you should have said so. And if something has gone wrong, you should have said so too.

My mates stopped playing this week due to the reduction in beach items (we like to explore) ... and, following the tweet about the patch, we kept tonight reserved to have a blast hoping a fix would be in ... And bam.

Come on guys, this is easy.

  • @warmonger0351 yesterday they said that we will have patch today with patchnotes. Now after maintenance they said literally nothing what will happen. 3 weeks to fix banana issue..

  • I'm colour blind and just logged in to check if I can now more easily make out the X on a map...... sadly not yet but I'm so pleased Rare are putting this feature in the game and look forward to seeing it live.

  • @guybrushcrpwood They have at least learned not to release the patch unless it's ready! And I guess technically they've communicated that, but I'd prefer it was through all the official channels at once, which is where they definitely haven't learned - so you're right.

I'm disappointed, but getting used to that feeling, and we have to be realistic - the situation is most likely that they wanted it to be ready but it wasn't, again. That's reality, simple, and there's not really any way they could have communicated that earlier. They really should start doing a coordinated announcement approach though... it couldn't be that hard to arrange...

  • @guybrushcrpwood Yes. Something happened between yesterday and today. Clearly, they thought they would have the patch ready today, and today they realized it wouldn’t be ready. It’s called “game development.” It happens.

  • 7 days 'til HD. Shaving it a bit close. Hope this patch doesn't have issues like 1.07.

  • @entspeak said in No Patch?:

let's just hope that “game development.” is not happening next week again ...

  • @m4dkraut I won't be surprised when they announce that Hungering Deep is pushed back.

@m4dkraut I won't be surprised when they announce that Hungering Deep is pushed back.

    i am already expecting it

  • @entspeak Indeed. And I'm sympathetic about it, to an extent.

The problem with SoT is that it's not a game easily played in small segments ... To get four busy chums together for an evening play session is surprisingly tough for us - one day a week, if we're lucky. And I imagine that applies for a lot of people too.

Why does it matter? Because this current patching and communication business keeps wasting our time. I understand that programming and development is a tetchy business, but that should be factored in before making promises that can't be delivered.

This has gone from an exception towards something of a norm ... I would much rather Rare stop pulling down the servers, promising patches they can't deliver, and wait a couple of weeks to test each update and make sure their communication is pursuant to what we actually get.

Stop, just stop. yes it happens, but this has been an on going thing with them the last few weeks. At some point they need to wake up and communicate better. People like you need to stop giving them a pass on every single thing. As much as some people complain too often, YOU and a few others DEFEND way too much.

This is a AAA game we bought for 60$, we deserve better than this. To say otherwise is just unrealistic to be quite honest. I mean repeating the same mistake (That mistake being to communicate better) over and over does not put any trust in this company and moving forward. If they can't do something as simple as communicate, I have no trust they can do anything else.

Also, if they are having this hard of a time with washed up loot and handing over items, you wanna tell me why I should trust they will get HD out on time and without a c**p ton more issues?

Let me guess, give them a break right? Pfft, that is all most of us have done for 3 months. At some point it IS their fault and problem, not the player base that paid for the game.

  • @guybrushcrpwood It is a bit strange that they advertised the patch for today. But then complete maintenance with a throw away "patch comes later" comment. Would rather a proper/separate communication stating that today's patch isn't quite ready, and will be dropped as soon as possible.

  • Also, why on earth was b - u - s - y chums censored? Are hectic lifestyles against pirate code, or something?

  • @guybrushcrpwood Seems there are a few B words being incorrectly picked up by the filter at the moment. Believe it's been flagged to the mods though.

  • @luciansanchez82 Yeah, I'd rather them be transparent. "We were going to patch but the patch didn't work, so we did maintenance and will add the patch later this week" would be better than changing previous posts and gaslighting us into thinking they said the patch would be later all along.

  • @luciansanchez82 I believe I saw in another post that it's all 4 letter B words.

  • @guybrushcrpwood the servers would have been down anyway (patch or no patch) as server maintenance was still performed.

  • @guybrushcrpwood It’s a no-win situation. If they aren’t mention an upcoming patch, people whine. If they mention an upcoming patch, but something happens and it’s delayed, people whine. But, this has always been the case since game development feedback became more than sending an e-mail to support. Such is life.

  • @triheadedmonkey True. But I'd rather have a longer wait time for the actual patch, than an evening of almondbeards!

  • @guybrushcrpwood which is likely why they have delayed this one :)

  • @triheadedmonkey said in No Patch?:

Yes, but now we have to deal with another server down window later in the week instead of it getting done today.

  • So “patch maintenance complete” and what did they do? The worse game of go fish ever so far. I’m expecting HD to be delayed due to some sad reason like you couldn’t give an eye patch to a fellow pirate who just lost his eye from a cannonball (yes I know you can’t trade or hand cosmetics but wouldn’t that be something) communication has gone down hill seriously with thecdevs and user base and needs to be addressed. If you rolled out a “tweak” or “enhancement” at least say “hey all we didn’t have the patch ready but we fixed our hardware issues along with A,B,..) some info is better than none and they need to realize that.

  • @entspeak
I'm not an expert on this but i know a thing or two about project management and communicating to/with clients.
So my rule for this would be:
    A) Patch done and thoroughly tested = Announce patch, let it rest on the shelve for a week or so then release it and look like a baws!
    B) Patch not done and not thoroughly tested = Don't even start mentioning it.

But that's just me and as i stated, i've never developed a video game (actually i did, but it was in Q-Basic and i released it to one customer, which was me...).

The good thing that we can all agree on is that they postpone patches in order to give us the b e s t possible gaming experience! I give them credit for that!

  • @themustamissed Not so much giving them a break as not really investing enough to get too riled about a patch delay. Of course, I don’t feel your $60 pain yet, because I’m on Game Pass - and this is one of the reasons I did that. And, believe me, there are some bugs that make me mad.

Perhaps, it’s because I’ve primarily been playing Early Access games for the past 6 years, but I’ve learned to simply say, “meh,” when a patch doesn’t get released on time. I’d much rather have a delayed patch that works.

  • @entspeak said in No Patch?:

@guybrushcrpwood Yes. Something happened between yesterday and today. Clearly, they thought they would have the patch ready today, and today they realized it wouldn’t be ready. It’s called “game development.” It happens.

No it's called "Early Access" and should have been initially presented as such. This isn't game development.. this is a joke.

I respect unexpected patches and curious bugs that slog down launch of games. It happens with PC titles CONSTANTLY (Console too but often less advertised except to the players who watch close).

But there really needs to be a limit here...

Maybe it's the combat medic in me still, but Triage is my bread and butter - organize what's known to be broken - fix it in appropriate order THEN move on to secondary treatments.

We've got bugs beyond bugs since launch - most minor but all still present..

Yet here we are adding content, which already broke the game once, new issues from the breaks (Loss of shinies, FPS drops, Etc) that still aren't fixed, and then we're talking MORE changes and content adds?

how about we fix what's broke before we start adding more breaks? That's my opinion!

If Hungering Deep arrives the 29th, and we still have the new issues from the last broken patch here? I'll retch!

I totally respect that they are trying to add quality of life updates, I respect that bugs will occur, I'm not even mad that they want to add more and more weekly....

But let's fix what is broken first before even ANNOUNCING new patches.. it just makes Rare look like clowns IMO.

I love the game but knew this would be the issue within the first week, and I'm not being proven wrong yet, and here we are another patch announced another delay on said patch...

Thank god I have State of Decay to entertain me while they get their pants on straight.. I'll be playing SoT over the next few days I'm sure... because I still respect the IP... But confidence was already shaky with me from the start... It gets worse daily.

  • additions such as aim sensitivity customisation

    This sounds interesting!
Lets hope it is for both platforms ;)

  • Discarding Voyages without proposing them!
Will also be a nice quality of life improvement! ... Long overdue.

  • @blooddoll22 I agree that this feels like “Early Access”. My view of this game shifted to that a long time ago - one of the reasons I didn’t pay the $60 upfront.

    I need this sooo bad!

You should post this in suggestions/feedback.

I only give them half credit for that at this point. They really have no choice but to postpone patches that have issues because if they release another patch that screws up the game after ALMOST fixing the issues caused by the previous patch it's going to alienate a lot of people. I feel that will be the last straw for a lot of players.

Yes they are caught between a rock and hard place but others would release the patch and then work on another patch that will patch the patch so you can patch while you patch.

  • @power-hansen But what about the inevitable patch that patches the patch that was meant to patch the patch???

  • They need to slow down their release schedule - weekly is insane, no time to test and fix. 2-3 weeks per release is much more realistic and stable. BUT the community is relentlessly demanding updates and content.

I would prefer fewer/more stable updates with more in them.
