Servers empty of players after time

  • Hi,
I've noticed that the frequency of running into players drops drastically over time to a point where after about 3 hours in-game I appear to be the only player.

Obviously players log out... but is there a problem with adding new players? There seems to be something not right, too many times the world I love feels empty (because it is).

Please, I love the feeling of having to watch my back all the time when I'm a solo merchant... I also want to find and hunt other players when I want to be a pirate. Soloing a fort in an empty server feels like an empty victory, and I don't want to mindlessly grind my rep going from A to B with no risk.

Please look at this. I feel there is definitely something not right with maintaining a constant population.

    Thank you.

  • @sickfox after 2 hours of playing. i saw a gallion fighting a sloop. those were the last other ships i saw in my 5 hour farming session. so i feel quite lonely soloing on a sloop.

  • I've seen that too but honestly enjoy it as I am building my rep as I am not legent and am only in the 40s. Id rather they wait to fix it till I'm legend or have all my athena rep :) lol just me being selfish as I lost a lot of rep with all the server crashes past week. Lol

  • There does seem to be some quietening of the seas after a lengthy spell, but I normally put that down to regional servers (are they a thing?) and the fact that folks will be sleeping in the UK and most of Europe when I play (10pm - 1am UK).

Though it has been said by Rare and Deckhands that the game is meant to actively push you into confrontation - migrating you to new servers, merging servers together to have ships drop in and out of your world and I have heard as well (may be complete conjecture) that the voyages will try and push you towards other crews too...

  • @sshteeve Yes, I also heard that they spent a lot of time working out how many players should be in a server and maintaing that to optimise game immersion & enjoyment so not sure why that isn't happening.

That's an interesting point about regions, as I too play late 11:00pm - 3:00pm.

  • @sickfox I always think of it like this - in my first hour of playing it is the middle of the night from Finland across to most of Russia, then it's early morning in Australia and New Zealand, whereas it's early evening to midday to the west.
Probably explains why I meet loads of Americans!

  • This is very true. I notice this all the time. I play everyday for at least 4 hours at a time. As ships/crew leave the game, they are not automatically replaced.

I assume there are normal ship spawning conditions that need to be taken into account along with other (unknown to me) factors that need to be taken into account for that to happen. I.e: not in visual range of other ships, spawn at outpost etc.

There is the server migrations where you are migrated or people migrated in - this action is definitely related to the Anchor. A server migration will only take place for you when the Anchor is down (and from my experience only within range of an island)

  • funny last thread I was reading was all about how busy the servers were yesterday and this one says how dead they are.

It was decent for us yesterday saw few sloops couple galleons.
I do have days where seas seem slow and some where they are packed. I like the whole box of chocolates aspect of this game
(never know what your going to get)

  • 1st - turn of crossplay
    2nd - servers feel empty

  • @sun4k0 Sorry m8 but you have misunderstood, we're not talking about other players joining your boat... but other boats out on the seas.

  • @sickfox
    Oh sorry my bad then.

  • @sickfox Hey sick. I would love to be hunted. but having probs getting on. any suggestions on how to enter game?

  • Sometimes after a couple good hours of fighting for skull forts and engagements with other ships, it's nice and relaxing to just get some voyages done in peace. My crew and I love when that happens.

  • Really wish I had servers like all of you! I always get the busy ones it seems :/
