No streamers = No viewers
No viewers = No constant new player flow
No constant new player flow = No revenue
No revenue = no payment for developers or servers
No payment for developers = No patches/fixes/new content
No patches/fixes/new content = unhappy playerbase
unhappy playbase = players leavingWhat utter nonsense!! Especially the part I highlighted.
@impeached-trump I agree. sea of thieves is loosing players fast. I know of at least twenty players who have quit playing sea of thieves because of the PC cheats(hacks). The cheats being the aimbots and ghost ship has ruined the gaming experience for sea of thieves. I love the game but I too have decided to stop playing because of these PC cheaters. The devs of sea of thieves need to address this problem now before the player base shrinks to a point of no return.
Actually this does correlate to player count. If you go to the site that I provided and go down to the bottom there is one that says dedicated channels to sea of thieves. That graph also dramatically went down. So it also shows is Twitch streamers are no longer playing the game anymore. Everyone's playing fortnite because they keep updating content.
Ah, but Twitch streamers =/= players - they're motivated by different things.
Also, while we're at it, Twitch viewers =/= players. I know kids in my son's class who know certain games inside out from Twitch and YouTube, but they never even intend to own or play those games. It's a weird world we live in now...
@impeached-trump in witch case it correlate?
Watching streams makes me a player so watching movies in cinema makes me an actor? Brilliant. Where is my Oscar?
@personalc0ffee Achievement stats are an extremely good indicator of many things, player retention being one of them.
If you have 100 people playing a game, and only 10 of them have an achievement like "Hit level 20 with gold hoarders" that means you've lost 90 of those players. Its a metric that companies use to see how many people finish their game even.
People need better things to do with their time than predict the death of every game. Go find a game that doesn't have a crazy spike in streams when it first releases then dwindles as time goes on, especially as other new games release. And don't say Fortnite and act like its the norm and not the one exception.
As for all the nay sayers vs fan boys who argue about whether or not the game is dead or dying etc., what do you really want? If the game has at least 24 people still playing it then you'll never notice anyway. And if you want more from the game the content can't just appear magically, so how about you wait for the first few content releases and then make your judgment based on the quality of what Rare releases and whether or not you agree with their vision at that time.
@impeached-trump no man sky - please I want their viewer counts as well.
I have been following your posts and things just keep getting weirder, your statements and logic are going downhill.Though, I am not opposing that player counts are going down. They go down on every game after launch.
Question is how many of them stay to play.I present my proof, farcry 5 is doomed.
even worse, god of war is going to hell
Conclusion - if you have enough data, you can prove anything.
And launch cannot be compared to random month, it throws your scale off.@personalc0ffee said in PROOF that Sea of Thieves is losing players fast. Graph attached:
LUL
This is no more proof that players are leaving the game than watching achievement stats.
All this means is that people aren't watching SoT anymore, not that they aren't playing it.
Dude has no idea what proof means. xD
@aeekto There's a lot of assumption about correlation and causation there.
A couple of things that bear merit - 1. Sea of Thieves is not your ideal streaming platform - it's slow paced. 2. Many players, like myself, may have started watching others play before diving in to make our own go at it. 3. The Game Pass has been reduced for £1 for the past two weeks, enabling greater numbers of players to experience, rather than watch, the game.
I'm not suggesting these figures entirely explain the drop, but I do think these stats need to be taken with a deal of scepticism...

So as you can see from just twitch users alone and their viewer count it is going down just as much as No Man's Sky. Now, Twitch alone isn't real proof as many don't stream, but it should concern Rare. If you look at the graph you can expand the timeframe to show launch date to today's date
Dude, proof is conclusive, undeniable... This is only proof that people are becoming less interested in WATCHING SoT streams on twitch... nothing more nothing less. :P
@impeached-trump SO, your point is what? And you didn't prove anything, and if your trying to prove something what is it? I love the game will play it for years to come and so will my whole family and many others. So, go play another game and get on another board and complain about something else. Oh, Good Bye.
What is it with this weird urge to hate on this game? Do you people work for competitive game developers? I’ve never seen such crying and whining. The OP hates Trump and again has this need to have some moral superiority but it seems more he suffered from TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) so maybe that is the case, people who just hate needlessly? Maybe it is SoTDS? If you hate the game, do what normal people do and stop playing it and try to move in with your life.
I like this game a lot and I’m here for the long haul. Next I’m purchasing Monster Energy Supercross. Maybe you all can try it and find a new meaning in life to come and hate on it and try to have people believe your tantrums are a sign of intellect we are all just too stupid to understand.
It is becoming sad to read and not for the games sake.
Plus, you forget about players who don't really give a damn about Twitch...
I don't watch streamers, i don't watch Twitch, cause no matter the game is, i have no interest to go on this platform. And I think i'm not the only one. So... if you want some proof, don't take a piece of a spectrum and don't use it to match with your opinion, cause that's not how "proof" works.

I'm eager to see how much the population will drop once they remove server hoping. probably going to be devastating.
Even playing Solo I server hop sometimes
Not to find a fort or anything
But to find a crew willing to do OOS if I can't find one on my discordGH easily ranks up quickest by default anyway & Merchants I can do just fine solo
Perhaps it 'proves' people stopped watching because they started playing instead...?
It actually proves nothing other than there are fewer people streaming/watching. I play every day but don't stream or watch...and I'd put money on me not being the only one.
Sadly this is how gaming industry works nowadays... it´s all about streamers and not how good a game is.
You only make enough revenue if the game gets streamed/viewed a lot (more views = persuades people to believe the game is great, even when it´s not) so more people buy into the game or it´s cosmetics.
The time where it has been simply about the game itself has gone long time ago.
This would suggest everybody is a total idiot that lacks independent thought. Whilst it may be true for some, I'm pretty sure most people would be able to think for themselves before spending money....otherwise the $:Brain Cells ratio is waaaay off.

@impeached-trump I think one of the biggest reasons this thread is getting so much grief is because of the word "proof". This is not really proof but one of many indicators of a games health(?). Kind of like how animals start acting strange before a natural disaster. That is an indicator that something will potentially happen but not proof.
I am a believer that the current state of the game is not healthy though. If you go back and look at stats from the end of the TA, it would also be an indicator of potential issues with player retention/longevity in my opinion.

Rare were saying before release how much they wanted their game to be streamed and how 'today' it has big impacts on recurring revenue (micotransactions) and the fanboys cant see how a MASSIVE drop in twitch steamers has a big effect. Rare's fault for making a game thats so damn BORING l***o and wonder why noone wants to stream it.

No, that does not and means even less to for this game due to certain circumstances, specifically being in Game Pass, the trial period and the fact achievements were disabled the first couple of weeks. You also ignore the fact people play games at differing paces so not everyone will reach that threshold at the same time. Furthermore the open-endedness of the game means people are playing differently and progressing differently due to their particular taste - it is in no way the same as a linear game so later game achievements would be unlocked at a lower pace if at all.

And launch cannot be compared to random month, it throws your scale off.Isnt God of War and Far cry 5 primarily "Linear" single player titles? Probably not the best comparison.
But the game i would "Possibly" compare it to is Elite Dangerous, kind of has the same concept and it's my assumption that game doesnt have a particular big stream base due to it being more about the social and players experience rather than the viewers.
But one thing for certain, Elite is far from dead so by that standards i suppose you could say the same and SoT.
However i cant be bothered to find stats or charts for either because quite frankly I couldn't care less lol.
