The Kraken is stupid because you get no rewards for it. You waste so much time and cannonballs, and get NOTHING for it.
I understand that future patches will add more stages and rewards to the Kraken, but even before that there needs to be some sort of reward for surviving a Kraken encounter.
Fyi you can beat the kraken with a crew of snipers and pistols too to save your cannonballs we had to put this to the test the hard way lol. It is progressive they already said this and this is the first of the encounters eventually you will kill the kraken i think maybe with hungering deep. There is talks about exclusive clothing and a kraken chest for Kraken encounters.

Yeah, I know that. But even before they release more stages to a Kraken encounter please just give us some sort of reward for the existing Kraken encounter. A few chests or skulls or something. There needs to be some sort of reward for surviving an encounter.
Not getting something out of the kraken encounter, like a chest or skull, feels really odd because the Kraken isn't a challenge you choose to make, it forces itself upon you and your crew, it ambushes you with no warning. Yeah it is a hazard like the storm, and like the storm doesn't give any rewards for living through it, but again it feels really odd in the way that you can avoid the storm if you don't want to deal with it, the kraken just chooses your ship to annoy for a while, nothing you can do about it, only defeat it and move on.

avoiding punishment is not the same as positive reinforcement.

But seriously.... other games will fix you with constant achievements, unlockables and other highs but back in my days people didnt need videogames to be a source of constant "atta-boy"s they were fun and sea of thieves is like that! I feel more honest just surviving the kraken then farm it for reward X
@outragedboss Its absolutely not. But it is part of the game design theory of not placing players in a skinner box system to artificially addict them to your game.
@outragedboss The Kraken is stupid full stop I managed to beat it on my own. The kraken needs a complete overhaul and needs to be something to be feared and not a waste of time
@outragedboss Personally I just hope it's not loot/gold. I want the kraken to feel like an autonomous threat with a mind of its own, where you are fighting to survive, more than fighting just to grind for gold and reputation. But yea, some unique furniture for your ship/decorations, perhaps you can obtain an item 'kraken ink' and after obtaining enough you can buy unique kraken ink sails, etc etc.. that could definitely do some cool stuff like that. A trophy for you ship, for 1 victory, 10, 100 or something.
They also need to make the fight a bit more interesting. I saw a ship get attacked by the kraken, and it was actually better than I thought at the start! Kraken was rocking the ship violently back and forth and all the tentacles moving around... and then the tentacles just stayed in the air and did almost nothing, what? Who on earth programmed that? They need to be writhing about, scary, and the kraken needs to be a threat! Even when they add more AI bosses, which perhaps offer gold or whatever rewards, the kraken needs to be the most infamous and scariest boss in the ocean, with a mind of its own, capable of engaging people any time!!

lol tbh I can't remember it was awhile ago through word of mouth and forums so take it with a grain of salt.
