I afked a crew handing in 30k gold

  • @spooks2gunshy Yup. The 'should have left' argument is invalid, since the option is his alone.

He could, out of kindness, leave and let somebody else gain all the free booty with their friend ... But kindness isn't a one way process - treat people like a mug, and people mug you in return.

Just saying, if you want a person to do X against their best interests, then don't be a expletive.

  • @stew360 disagree. There is no way to know whether or not the friend they are trying to bring in did any work either. Boosting other players through game-hopping is a huge concern, and other players are under no obligation to politely let them. I have not seen anything on the forums about SoT servers habitually dropping people (except their rough few days of launch), so I lean towards their impropriety over a bad connection.

  • And you did well, insta-brig?, you can cry a river.

  • @xixxo123 A similar thing happened to me the other night when I joined a game in progress. I had no idea how much loot they had. I saw a lot of empty crates on the deck though and one of them explained that they collected them to pick up pigs, chickens, and snakes while on gold missions. I spent maybe 10-15 mins playing, listening to the chat, talked to them a few times. They never asked me to leave. All of a sudden I was brigged. I asked why and nobody said a word. So I played the accordion. I could hear them talking amongst themselves once in a while. Once they had cashed in the loot I got a private msg from one of them asking me to please leave so their friend could join. I left.

Had they asked me as soon as I joined I would have left right away. Lock me up with no explanation and I'm sticking around... until I get bored.

  • Fair enough, I take the exact same approach in every aspect of this game. I try to be nice. Ill say hello, wave etc. If I get brigged and sword at and told to leave, I stay for the loot if they're on their way to an Outpost anyways.

Same goes for general gameplay - I will wave and say Ahoy to passing ships etc, and I will not attack them. If they then attack me..... fair game. I always give them a chance to be nice first, and if they are hostile despite my friendly advances I'll sink them and take their loot.

  • Listen, nobody leaves boats when they join and see tons of loot - stop kidding yourself. Your endgame in this post is to brag about how you can play God by using the games flawed party system to make people behave in a manner that most appeases you or to demand respect to justify staying for the cash-in.

We live in a world of Snowflakes where people legitimize their actions based on how they feel. Since "feelings" are so broad, you can argue that anything they would have said had displeased you - again, anything to further your agenda. It's little troll's like you that are bumping up the priority of improvements to the Party system, so thank you for that! Scrub.

  • @xixxo123 You didn't exactly "AFK" the loot. You did what most do when they run into a rude crew. I see no problem with that. If someone is being an a*s, they deserve what they dish.

  • Not gonna lie, I would have done the same thing as the OP in that situation. Being D-bags right off the bat and cursing someone out as soon as they join is not going to go well for them. I had joined a crew once and they politely asked me if I would leave because they had a friend trying to join so I said no problem and left. Simple as that. No need to curse and be an donkey about it.

  • @xixxo123 sagte in I afked a crew handing in 30k gold:

For anyone wondering, had they politely asked me to leave i would have instantly left.. Rare's game mechanics allowed me to punish them, and i would do it again.

You would have stayed regardless if they had treated you like a pampered king or like a parasitic s*****g that loves to leech off of the hours of work provided by others.

You saw stuff and you wanted it.

  • Everyone is looking at this like one party or the other is the bad guy. Realistically both are the "toxic" players. Consider this situation in the real world. You have a neighbor who wants to do work on his house. He would like you to move your car, on the public street, which you are entitled to park on, because he has construction trucks coming in and needs the space.

You have a right to be there, you walk outside, and he shouts "HEY BUDDY MOVE YOUR *$(#&# CAR!" There's 2 ways to handle that, he was already a jerk. But you don't HAVE to be a jerk back to him. You could be the bigger person and just move. Or you can sink to his level and spite him and decide to leave your car there.

It's the same thing here. You're 2 strangers thrusted together through circumstances out of your control. There's no obligation for either of you to be nice to one another, but it is what separates us from toxic people and a nice person.

    Signed: the salty snowflake.

  • This is the only way I've really been playing after day 2. Usually when I'm done gaming for the night I'll log in, find a place to hide, then go to bed. #1 pirate.

  • If they were uncouth from the get go, it serves them right.

  • @towheadedtrash9 You obviously didn't read or comprehend the OP's post. He/she faced abused and retaliated. You were one-sided and acted as the epitome of the trolls and others who display unsportsmanlike behavior that is ruining the game. Furthermore, you show absolutely no remorse and is almost boastful about it. Shame on you.

  • @marine-rookie A pirate being unsportsmanlike? Don't kill my RP, bro.

  • @towheadedtrash9 I think you are confusing fantasy with reality, bro.

Still waiting to hear how your post is relevant to the OP's, bro.

  • @marine-rookie What is your max wait time?

  • I've been there OP. I will ALWAYS leave immediately, no questions asked, if politely asked to do so after joining a game.

However, for example, a couple nights ago I joined a game and was instabrigged and called the nbomb several times before I could even open my mouth. Was told to leave then was threatened with r**e. These h*******y sounding dudes then kept filling the boat with enough water to drown me, screaming about how n****** can't swim.

I did not leave. Let my character sit on the ferry of the damned with the joystick spinning, mocked their h*******y sounding mushmouth voices and then played my Switch for a while till THEY gave up and left eventually.

  • Being polite will get you farther than being rude. Would have done the same thing!

  • @the-lupino

In instances such as this, please, please report them on xbox.

Make them lose their accounts and games if they continue to be like this.

  • Good for you man! Pirate being s pirate and teaching those scrubs a valuable lesson in humanity.

  • @mubhcaeb78

I debated it but with it happening over voice chat I had no way to prove it. Just blocked them and hopefully won't see them again.

  • Unfortunately this is how it has to be done currently. I don't fault either side in this situation. Its a huge problem that Rare needs to address.

I have brigged people as soon as they joined my crew. On several times. Its not their fault in the slightest, its the 27 other randoms who sail away with my ship, toss loot overboard, eat all our bananas, or detonate gunpowder barrels below deck for no reason what so ever. It really feels like about 75% of randoms do this.

I have also been brigged as soon as I join a crew as well. I usually just leave, but if they are extremely rude or obnoxious about it I will hang around for awhile.

We really need some sort of function to help mitigate this. Its annoying to say the slightest.

Turns out they had done a couple of strongholds..

    Story fake

Yeah, you don't wait a couple of hours for the next fort to open while keeping the loot on your ship. But it's a nice story nevertheless.

  • @stew360 In the amount of time it took then to be a d**k they could have been decent. Get what you give usually.

  • @guybrushcrpwood said in I afked a crew handing in 30k gold:

@sanni Best for who, though? He got 30k of gold with minimal effort. And would quite happily if left if people had, y'know, shown some courtesy.

If somebody is glaringly rude to me, I'm going to be glaringly obstructive back.

First off, your name is awesome for those that know where it comes from...

And Agreed. I joined a random game once, and would have been happy to leave, but was in a similar situation where i was immediately swore at, so i took out a bunch of animals they had in crates before parting ways. Be nice to me, im nice to you. Be mean, well your going to get it right back

  • Celebrated by buying a new controller :P

  • @xixxo123 said in I afked a crew handing in 30k gold:

The title may trigger some people but this is what happened:

Joined the game, spawned in to the captains quaters and saw they had a bit of loot.. Typed "Hi guys" in the chat.

Ran downstairs and saw they were on their way to an outpost.. Winner, maybe i have a team i can do some voyaging with..

Saw a reponse saying "Dude F ing leave"

I thought, well that was rude..

Then i was brigged, again i got sworn at over and over again telling me to leave because they have somone about to join..

Because of the way they instantly brigged along with being so abrupt and rude, i spend the next 20 minutes playing shantys in the ship being scuttled over and over as the crew who had gotten everything on the dock handed in their loot.

Turns out they had done a couple of strongholds..

For anyone wondering, had they politely asked me to leave i would have instantly left.. Rare's game mechanics allowed me to punish them, and i would do it again.

so you just perpetuated the cycle of griefing. You did exactly what they thought you would and just trolled. I get it from both sides i've had someone drop connection and a random join before he could rejoin and we have had to do this too but in the world of griefing where new crew can just start dropping off your hard earned loot to just be a d****e and if they had that much on them I don't blame them for brigging at all, This is why we need a kick feature or private lobbies it would have been better if they could just kick you so you didn't waste their time and vice versa.

  • @ve111a

I wouldn't have wasted anyones time if they asked me to leave in a half decent manner

you're asking 12 year olds to be civil. That's like asking a fish not to swim in online video games.

PLEASE can that be a new title? LOL

  • @xixxo123 I always ask politely and it usually works out. I also try to add the person and add them to another crew spot if it opens.

  • We had a fired get kicked mid voyage, someone else joined, and helped us with the last part of the voyage. We told him we would cash in the loot we worked for together if he would leave to let our friend return. He was very appreciative and left no questions asked.

  • @the-lupino
On Xbox I believe the in game chat is recorded when you say record that.
On PC I know the nvidia shadowplay records game chat, not sure on the windows DVR.

In any case it is more of a hassle to get the evidence and linked to a report but people like that should have their toys taken away.
