[Problem] exploiting the end of the map

  • ( Sorry for the english)

    Hi,

Two time in row, we met a galleon which suicide run out the map without fighting. ( they were 4 peoples and got canonball)

I want to know if more people have met theses kind of players.
We lost time to chase them, they lures their treasure in the red water where nobody can take it.

So unfair and totaly at the opposite of the game design.
Can we see a drowback on this situation. Like treasure(chest, skull, baril ect...) drop at the limit of the map and not in the redwater ?

    thank's.

  • i don't see it as unfair because it was their loot to begin with. if they want to sink it into the red sea as opposed to letting your crew take it, then that's their choice. I myself have chosen to sink a Fort Key into the red sea because we were being hounded for over an hour by another galleon and couldn't unlock the door. Better noone got it than they getting to get all of the loot for our work on a skull fort.

  • They take you into the red sea so holes pop in ur boat and u stop giving chase. It is a common tactic used to shake the tail. And you can go in the red for a limited time and still make it out.

  • @capasspaper
One more thing. If i have to choose between you and the sea getting my loot, the sea wins everytime

  • What do you mean drop at the limit of the map. After they sink the chests get teleported or when entering the red sea the chests phase through the ship. In my opinion I don't see it as a problem. It's their chests and you failed to sink them before exiting the map. Just because you chase them for hours on end does not mean you get the chests. Leaving the map is there last ditch effort to make sure YOU don't get the prize. It was your choice to chase for hours on end, it was their choice to sail off the map knowing full well they will lose all the loot. No one wins from that.

  • I did that today. We grabbed a Skeleton Fort key and ran from two other galleons. One sunk, and the other chased us to the edge of the map.

Little did they know that we had someone swim with the key to an island and hide it!!! Lol!

They, and the other galleon, disconnected from the server and we were then able to grab the fort treasure in peace.

  • Well if don't derseve to fight as a pvp game. Well it's a thing. But you don't even help the game. if everybody do this.
    pvp will be dead

    Amen brother, preach on!

I hadn't even thought of it, until you mentioned it. By posting and complaining you probably just increased how many times it will happen now!

  • Fun Fact: Players can survive in the red sea. Then you can just have one person guard two people with loot while you have one on lookout. I actually started once in the red sea while are ship was sinking and had to wait for mermaid. I don't know if the are sharks in the red sea and if not have three people ferry loot!

  • damn that's a good idea. thanks for the tip

  • @renoxius well some time , they can stole the key from ur work and lure the key and the red water. In this case, is this still fair?

  • @capasspaper it's just as fair as you chasing them down, killing them and stealing their loot

  • @capasspaper Yes, it is fair, why wouldn't it be?

That's definitely griefing, but not unfair. if they were able to get the key away from me, and decided to Red Sea it, then of course i would be angry. I would not, however, want the mechanic to change because then it could become an exploit

  • What I think is that all of you "master PvPers" should go and find your own loot and stop chasing ships all day... If you want PvP go camp a Skull Cloud and kill whoever approaches, don't chase ships with mediocre loot for days. I would preffer to red sea the loot that I spent my time getting that letting a crew have it just because they chased me for 2 hours.

  • @drewbob7 said in [Problem] exploiting the end of the map:

Can confirm. I sailed out into the red sea solo on a sloop, just to see how far I could make it. Holes pop up just as fast as you can repair them. So yeah, as long as you don't make any mistakes, you can survive the red sea for as long as you have planks. Although there IS a definitive "end of the map", where you will automatically black-screen and respawn with a fresh ship.

to OP: No, not unfair in the slightest. You were actively trying to deny them of their loot, and then you complain when they denied you. If a crew is willingly sailing into the red sea with treasure on board, it's likely because they were forced into it. So, if anyone is to blame for their actions, it's you. Sorry bud.

  • @Renoxius
    Thats not griefing

  • "Get baited", I believe is the term the kids are using today. ;)

  • @nwo-azcrack its definitely on the boarder of griefing. it would be griefing only if they steal the key from you and directly go into the Red Sea to sink it

  • @renoxius
Not true. Its their key now. They can do what they want with it

  • PvP combat in Sea of Thieves is designed to be about as rewarding as war... As in it's not often rewarding, and not ever as rewarding as working together. Fighting is meant to be a way to settle disputes, not as a way of making a respectable pirate living. Just like during the golden age of piracy, the blood thirsty often go hungry.

    pvp will be dead

Then learn to leave people alone that don't want to fight and go pick a fight with someone who wants to!

  • It beats Scuttling the ship. I love making people mad enough to chase me into the red sea. Let's see how determined you are! I was born in the red sea, so it's home for me and the Kraken.

  • if they dont feel their time and effort is worth fighting for thats on them.

  • @firebird3776
You dont get to have that option in this game. But an exploding barrel usually changes ppls mind.

  • That's not a problem. I'd call that a win.

That is in-line with the game design. Of all the problems this game does have, the red sea is not one of them.

This is not exploiting. In fact this is the rationally optimal outcome for a crew that does not feel they can win a fight.

Option 1 fight; lose. Lose their lives, lose their ship, lose their treasure, and lose the time it took to get the treasure. Attacking crew is rewarded and that reward creates an incentive to continue to attack crews. Perhaps that same crew again. Their risk of wasting their time is diminished as long as prey crews are forced to fight. Thus increasing the frequency of PVP in the game overall due to the higher average reward vs risk incentive.

Option 2: Suicide run into the red seas. They lose their lives, their ship, their treasure, and their time. However, the attacking crew gets no treasure and may lose their lives and ship and even the treasure they have on board. In addition to their time. No reward for their efforts.

Thus the attacking crew gains nothing and stands to lose everything. Significantly increasing the risk of choosing to attack crews.

It is in the best interest of PVE focused crews to make PVP as least rewarding as possible to reduce the incentive to do it and shift the game environment toward more PVE and less PVP.

  • The real problem is not that people run to the red sea the problem is that at this point chasing is pretty much useless if you are chasing a gallion with a gallion your speed is the same even if they make a mistake and their sails are facing the wrong way closing the gap is pretty much impossible. Chasing does work from time to time but I would say 10% of the time which is unacceptable in a game based on pvp and stealing loot.

  • Best mechanic in the game.

Totally fair. And, probably the best answer to the dedicated pvp hunter out there.

  • @perfecshionist

There should be an offline mode for people who just want to play PvE, but I agree with you.

I'm heavily biased toward PvP due to the sheer lack of things to do in the game world. We attack pretty much anything that moves unless a crew can convince us otherwise. Which is rare, but it has happened.

Even met some other decent crews and had people who were logging off for the night who handed over all their supplies first.

I've recently noticed an increase in people just scuttling their ship when we engage them in combat. Which is a bit of a let-down to be perfectly honest. ...but a win is a win is a win I guess. One guy scuttled last night with three snakes and four pigs. I just kept thinking "why?"

  • It's totally fair. You don't get to throw a tantrum because someone found a way to stop you from being rewarded for attempting to rob them of the fruits of their labor.

Sink them before they get there, next time. How about that?

  • GOOGLE TRANSLATION: All their treasure are belong to red sea. 😄
