@tgirgis probably the dumbest reply I've ever seen, good job you've truly made my day.

To hammer that point further: there is no such thing as "boosting" in a SWAG. Have a good day man.

  • @edward-teaz

See I dont see it as cheating in any way. He simply found a way around the max crew limit. That's pretty pirate.

  • It doesn't matter what level he started boosting that doesn't change that he boosted. This angers me because I have done all the work myself and he comes around and boosts left and right it's just not right and that is someone that I will not look up to in the sea of thieves community.

  • Lol!

He never played he doesn’t even know how to exit dialogue or take a bucket.

Saw his stream, and all i saw was a grown a*s man dressing like a 14 year old that didnt even know the basics of the game.

I dont even consider him a part of this game.

Right there with you , was already chuckling at the getup , then 5 secs into watching his stream he whips out the ultimate sign of being a complete d*******g.

"Boosting" is non-existent in SoT. Gifting is part of the game. Community sharing and creating a story is the essence of the game. Whether you grind or get gifted, that story is up to you. You can't cheat or "boost" in SoT's SWAG game format, period, because everything goes in creating your own unique story.

  • @tgirgis You cite your opinion as fact a lot. It is not.

  • @platypuserotica said in Why Prod1gyX is my #TruePirateLegend (with sources):

@tgirgis You cite your opinion as fact a lot. It is not.

If you don't like my opinion, don't read it. However, since you stepped up to the plate I challenge you to show me how "boosting" is not only a thing, but cheating in a Shared Word Adventure Game.

  • @edward-teaz lololol yes lets go by what he says to polygon .. lame excuse for a pirate .,, only 22 % of his levels were boosted.. noooo thats not right.. more like he got 10% of his levels on his own and they were probably 1-10 ,, so he got to like 43 by himself ??? I dont think so

  • Well, seeing as you never responded to my request for sources and such in the other thread, this is rather a to do, is it not?

But c'est la vie. I shall bite.

First, I have specifically said that what he did is not cheating.

Secondly, boosting is generally considered to be "In multi-player games, having other people assist you in getting leaderboard position or achievements (xbox 360 specific) by having other people help you in ways that go counter to the game's design." Taken from Urban Dictionary, not the most reliable source but I am fairly sure most people would agree on said definition.

With said definition, well, it is obvious, is it not? Not to mention he went AFK at some points during this, making it even less effort, if you wish to call it that, on his part. Oh, but it's a SWAG, you say. And? Shared World Adventure Game. Are you in a shared world sharing the adventure? No. You are server hopping to achieve a goal in game which is generally recognized by the community as a reasonably big deal. You are not engaging in an adventure, you are joining groups purely to turn in loot. There is no adventure, no engagement and no point beyond being the first pirate legend.

We can argue the semantics of it till we are both bleeding from our fingertips, but at the end of the day the only way you can say that boosting does not exist in a SWAG is by, well, your opinion. Which you seem to feel is more important than the communities, who seem to agree that he 'boosted'.

Oh, hey. Know TB? TotalBiscuit? Kind of a big name when it comes to streamers. I don't follow him, nor do I have a twitter account, but a google search for prodigyx and boosting returns this:

"How sad, not only does ‘pirate legend’ status not get you anything interesting other than remixed voyages with the same goals, the first one to accomplish it was a booster who used his twitch followers to power level with what could be argued as an exploit. Sea of Thieves folks"

So there's another opinion from someone who is in the same, I guess? industry as the player. Of course, as with everything else, it is purely opinion, but unless Rare decides to weigh in there is no actual concrete answer. :)

But it's not counter to SoT's game design.

  • No sorry but boosting for any amount intentionally should disqualify him. That Rare hasn't revoked his status just shows how little they care about their community and any kind of supposed pirate code. This is a good thing though. Prodigy should be thanked for showing the community that Rare doesn't care about fair play or cheating and will always prioritize twitch streamers and youtubers over their player base. Thanks to this situation we know where we the customers stand with Rare and Microsoft, at the very bottom of the bilge.

  • Ah, but it is. :)

Sharing your voyages with friends who are lower level does NOT equal joining your "friends" games purely to turn in loot to achieve first pirate legend.

Honestly the fact that you would argue that makes me think that rather than just a passionate player, you are here to troll. I'll argue that the sky is purple on a good day, but even I will not try to twist words in to pretzels just to say that I am right.

So good day, sir. Enjoy your time on the forums.

Read the credits in Sea of Thieves where Rare outlines their game design, called S.W.A.G.

...and don't enter a discussion where you can't hang. See ya buddy.

  • @tgirgis Well you said you wanted challenged on boosting.

Boosting is when you take someone into a location or do a certain feature and have them sit idle doing almost nothing but basic movement while others do the intial tasks quicker so that your basis of Experience hand outs is fast per hour which is then considered Power-leveling.

World of Warcraft has had this happen for 12 years and now they're combating the Boosting instance method within there dungeons almost making it pointless now due to EXP nerfs within dungeons with a high level player forcing players to actually quest and level themselves, this company never had regulations regarding boosting in this certain game, though SOT does and that's a fact.

That is a good argument against your opinion but I can only fathom you'll say I'm wrong with the same sentence because you don't actually take comments into consideration, also boosting is considered bad form in any community within gaming its well known for this as it defeats the actual point to playing a game that is a singular progressing adventure regardless if you play with others the progression you seek follows to only yourself and not a group we only group so we can get the job done quicker, it also devalues the actual point to even buy it in the first place because you basically paid £60 to not even play the game.

Lets not forget half your comments are genuinely so childish its pretty pointless to debate with someone with the mindset of a child because Shared World Adventure Game is a new term which has no practical meaning regardless of what you say its a sandbox game and most developers who make sandbox games go down h*****n those who use exploitative ways to gain better status than others as sandbox games are commonly know for wanting everyone to be on the same playing field with no advantages but there own dedication to the said game.

First off as said earlier in this thread another studio's rules do not apply to this game. and again as Rare has taken no action against him and has stated that you are free to share your loot there is no basis to claim he has cheated.

Therefore the section that she cheaters shall be punished doesn't apply here whether or not your opinion is that it is cheating. Although you are free to have that opinion.

He methods also do not fit your definition of boosting as he did not sit idle while they completed quests, rather he logged in when they invited him, turned in, then logged out. Again this is not possible in a game like WOW so the comparison doesn't work.

Also in most MMO's you gain a tangible advantage for leveling, in this game you do not

This actually is a rule of Rares as stated in the forum rule section.

Also you do not say it is frowned upon anywhere in the post I quoted. Please check again.

As well if that was your point then I'm saying while you might "frown" at it Rare does not. However you are free to differ in your opinion

  • Alright, I think it's time to finally jump in here and say something.
First of all, thank you all for being honest. It is a huge eye opener seeing the results on what I did but in the end, no matter what you think, what went down was incredible.

The reason why I say this is because most of you "DID NOT WATCH FROM THE BEGINNING." So let me explain. I should be streaming right now, but because this is still a "thing," I should say a few words.

    1. At launch, the plan was to hit pirate legend with my crew. It was normal as it can be with many hours and days.

    2. I've been playing SoT since all of last year during alpha, so I do know how to play the game, even PvP. I am adding this because there's a lot of you judging my gameplay after playing for 24 hours. During the pirate legend discovery, I was feeling loopy but excited and handling 13k viewers was insane.

    3. I was very tired when we unlocked pirate legend. Getting swarmed by a c**p ton of viewers spamming bits and sending nude pics in discord was throwing me off my game. Trying to handle all of that and figuring out how to unlock the cave was indeed frustrating. All of this was effecting my play just a bit. So when everyone saw me tried to get out of a reading prompt and i was fumbling, so many things was happening and I couldn't think straight.

    4. Now, during my run for PL, I did so many forts, voyages and exploring. I've had incredible moments running into players with a bit of role playing and PvP action. I even took the time to teach players how to play the game since my streams is "tips and tricks."

    5. Once I was getting around the 30 reps, my viewers/community started to join up and swap other players that couldn't play for so long. This was creating a community on my side and more were coming in. In my discord channel, we had 3 SoT rooms and it started building up to 5, 6, and I am realizing, this is turning out great so far.

    6. To be very honest, I am not sure how it all started. But teams started rolling in and the idea starting flowing with me jumping into their games to grab their loot. It was 2 teams that would commit to this run and was excited to be a part of it. I was seeing the positive side on this simply because they felt like they were on a mission. Viewers were noticing what these teams were doing and they wanted to be on board. The excitement and energy they were bringing seemed like we were creating something big.

    7. More teams started forming and we invited them into our discord and the SoT rooms was shooting to 14 rooms! The community was growing so fast and more players were coming in. I would grind with my crew and teams would inv me to jump in and grab their loot.

    8. At this point, I was noticing a huge positive thing that was happening. Everyone wanted to help and be a part of this journey. A lot of teams were creative when I joined their team. Couple of them were shooting cannons as a salute when I entered, and that was making me feel like a pirate legend.

    9. During these swapping, I got to know a lot of the new players and form a new connection. They were excited and felt rewarding with what they did. It was seriously incredible.

    10. My thoughts behind all this was, I did something epic and it included so many players. I felt like a true pirate legend and we were def creating our own story reaching for legend status. It did not feel like we were simply boosting. That wasn't the mindset but rather a commitment to work together and achieve something.

This was my journey to legend, and it was def a story that was created not by me, but with my community. My goal as a streamer is to build a community and to put on a good show. That's exactly what I did.
So far, becoming pirate legend is fun but it comes with a responsibility. I can feel the status of legend so I must do legendary things. So, I hand out legend quest to the community and connect with more players throughout my adventure. I would bring them down to check out the cave and hearing their reaction is priceless. I am not going to satisfy the community always but I am here to satisfy my community. If there is any sort of immortalizing of me in the game, I would love to see it in a way the community is a part of it.

  • @edward-teaz no one cares enough. why waste your time in life posting about someone else doing something... this was like 5 days ago and is old news.

Relax. I understand your frustration. However, if he was "boosted" after he was at lvl 40 that makes it even less of an issue. He was actually gifted by his community who wanted to see the end-game content, and now it looks like he's helping everyone who helped him get there also. This is not cheating. That's friendship. Gifting someone like that is not against the rules.

So it sounds like you not only created a motivation, a goal, a reason for playing, but you also created an end-game content for everyone else too. Now THAT's longevity and fun...and an amazing story. It's real content.

  • @tgirgis I have def started a movement handing out the quest and joining games as legend. I am getting so much spam and msges saying "Hey man! could you join our game so we can get that legend chest?". Hundreds!! This type of connection is allowing me to do something cool and exclusive. Once you're legend, you do legend things.

  • From: https://www.pcgamesn.com/sea-of-thieves/sea-of-thieves-endgame

“What we’re trying to do is make it that becoming a Pirate Legend means something in Sea of Thieves, it feels special,” Chapman continues. “The first person to find this hideout and get the Legendary Voyages is probably going to become a bit of a celebrity in the Sea of Thieves world. Not everyone is going to get there, it’s an ultimate end goal to aspire to."

Thank YOU for showing us that this game can be more engaging than a boring grindfest. I only started following your stream a couple days ago when I read about you on the news (great stream, btw), so not a whiteknight (yet!), but when I look at a situation where the reality is far from what's painted in internet rumors (as they always are every single time, btw), I feel a little responsible to say something about it. That's just me.

  • @captain-lumbo To say nobody cares in a 300 post means they kind of do. Attacking my looks is just childish. Lets focus on the post and not my looks, thanks.

    ...the dude is cheap

    People can't be "cheap."

By cheap I think he means "he cheated". Furthermore, cheap can describe a person in several ways (if you really get into it). Cheap could refer to a miser. On a darker note, cheap could also refer to the actual cost of buying that person (i doubt that was the intended meaning but its still there)

    ...took a shortcut...

    Storytelling isn't a shortcut.

If he only told stories that would be fine but he went around joining people so he didn't have to dig up loot and fight skeletons

...and hosed someone else out of true glory.

This is not a zero sum game.

It is a zero sum game though.... either you get the treasure or they get the treasure

Look, man. No one can or wants to convince you out of your opinion. You have a right to feel the way you do. But people wanted him to be Legend and gave it to him as a gift. At least take that into consideration.

No, it's not. You can be a Legend too. Anyone can. This is a not a zero sum game.

Boarding a ship with a chest to give to an enemy, a randomly encountered enemy, is far different from inviting someone solely so they can cash in the loot you harvested.
