Adding Cursed Objects

  • There has been some discussion about adding more cursed chests to the game but what about cursed objects or items that you can use to mess with other pirates?

    1. The black spot, put random journals out there that when read will give the player the cursed black spot with a treasure or bounty map, that will draw a extremely powerful undead ship to wherever they are. Any pirates who killed someone affected by the curse would gain the black spot as well. The only way to get rid of it is to defeat the undead ship or complete the quest before dying, dying would cancel the spot and any potential reward.

    2. The golden Seagull, a gold trinket found randomly on the map. Whoever has this in their possession will be cursed to not see the seagulls (around sunken ships or barrels) and the seagulls would alert any other ships within sight range. There would be a trail of seagulls they would be able to follow. The only ways to get rid of it would be to sell it to a specific seller or "transfer" it to another crew, as in not someone on your boat.

    3. Davy Jones Crown, it will cause holes to appear on any boat the person is standing on every 10-15 seconds. Once picked up it will transfer onto your players head and will remain there until you sell it or get killed by another pirate. It would transfer to the pirate that killed you or could be sold to a special merchant.

4.The Mer-Triton, found randomly on the map. when picked up nothing happens and so long as the pirate holding doesn't touch the water nothing will happen. However, if the pirate carrying it touches the water (deep enough to trigger the swimming action) then they will transform into a merfolk and will no long be able to walk on land or be able to board the boat. The Triton would transform into their primary weapon and allow them to swim almost as fast as the boat. They would also be able to breath underwater. The only way to get rid of the item would be to give it someone standing on land (aka on the edge of the sand area) or to be killed.

    1. The flint lock of wings (either a pistol or rifle), found after a special quest line. It would take the place of one of the pirate's weapons. Any pirate damaged by this would gain the curse of the wind. Any time a pirate affected by this curse, jumps they would be propelled in the direction the wind is blowing, thus forcing the pirate to remain grounded or possibly be blown away. It would have a set number of shots that could not be reloaded and when empty would disappear.

    2. The saber of slow, found after a special quest line. Every time a pirate is damaged by this all of their actions are slowed for x-time, since it would be a stacking curse it would change. It would do very little damage and have a slightly slower swing speed. it could be blocked like normal with no penalty and the only way to be rid of it would be to kill the pirate holding it.

    3. The bucket of acceleration, found randomly. This bucket would contain a special liquid that would speed up a pirates actions by 10x (for 20-30 seconds) of their normal speed, making it comical to watch them try and navigate an island. The could be refilled with any liquid (perhaps it would have a different effect if filled with vomit). To get rid of it you can take a dip in any water source or sell the bucket or die.

    4. The stinky cheese wheel, this would be a random drop. When this found all players that are part of this crew would start to vomit every couple seconds until sold or transferred to another ship.

    5. The dead mans curse, this curse would be found when digging up a chest. A pirate cursed this chest to turn anyone who finds it into one of the undead. It would turn the crew into skeletons and make them unable to go into any town unless under the cover of darkness. If the affected chest is stolen the new crew would also be effected and the previous crew would be cursed to remain undead until either the chest is recovered or the new crew turns the chest in. If the chest is lost they will remain undead for 15-20 minutes.

All items would have to be sold to a special cursed objects dealer which would appear on their map, forcing the crew to sail to where he is "that day".

Anyway these were just a few ideas i came up with while sailing the high seas. I would love to have some critiques or see what other people have thought of.
