A ship smaller than the galleon, but bigger than the sloop. The Frigate!

  • Are you ever sad that you only have 3 people including yourself playing Sea of Thieves? Worry no more, for I bring you a new ship idea which will make ship spotting more interesting, and bring up more opportunities for the game itself.

    Introducing.. The Frigate!

The Frigate is a 6-Cannon, 2 Mast ship that is 2x bigger than the Sloop but smaller than the Galleon that can hold up to 3 people.

    What’s on the Frigate?

    Deck One “Top Deck”

At the bow of the ship we have our bowsprit, and two lanterns right beside it.
At the midship, we have our first mast, the main mast. I imagine this mast being about half or three quarters the size of the galleon’s. The mast will have three sails on it.
And near the main mast, we have our six cannons. Three on each side.
Towards the stern, we have first the helm on a small increase in height on the bridge, not enough for a Captain’s quarters.
Behind the helm we will have our mizzen mast, the mast will have two sails.
And finally, at the back one lantern.

    Deck Two “Below Deck”
Towards the front of the deck, we have our vanity, equipment, and clothes chests along with the ammo crate.
Around the ship, random cracks and rope laying on the floor.
In the middle, we have stairs going up to the top deck, near the main mast.
Coming down from the stairs, we find our map. Just your regular map.
And then we come to the captain’s quarters, an open door with walls next to it.
The Captain’s quarters has a Voyage table, a skull shelf and a bed. Also some cabinets and stuff.
The are will have voyages attached to the wall via knife, and a specific table for your watch.
There will be no outlook, but there will be a window with squared patterns on them, like the galleon’s windows.
Next to the Captain’s quarters, sitting on the walls will be the Cannon barrels, with two cannon barrels, and one wooden plank barrel. The Grog Tankard & the Banana Crate will be right next to the map, along with a couple cabinets and random things.
The stairs to the final deck will be right after the bow of the ship, and leads down to the brig.

    Deck Three “Sink Deck”
Finally, we have our sink deck.
The sink deck is basically where the water comes in, it is a low-roofed small area with not much there.
Crates are everywhere, empty barrels and crates like that with a couple lanterns.
The brig is right by the stairs where it comes down.

The Frigate could be replaced with a new name, I think it is the best thing between a sloop, and a galleon. But a Frigate can have three sails or more according to history in 18th and 19th century navies. We replace three with two to create balance in the Sea of Thieves world.

I imagine the Frigate to look and feel like a British frigate in the 18th century.
Rare, you do not have to use my idea to the fullest. But please hear our cry, we want a medium ship, and a big ship! TAKE YOUR TIME! We want the best game we can get, thank you Rare.

  • @fisharefriend69 I fully support this idea!

Maybe a schooner or a Brig instead of a frigate as they could be as big as the Galleon.

As for a six man ship, you could do a prototype of a Man-O-War with only 1 deck of guns, 6 one each side but with an extra sail at the back.

  • @axterius Thank you for the feedback, I will surely consider the name, and I can for sure do a Man-o-War prototype!

  • @fisharefriend69 Maybe you could look at Edward Kenways Jackdaw from AC4: Black Flag, it would fit the size gap between a sloop and a Galleon.

  • @axterius That's the reason I made this thread, I played black flag and I really wanted to see some of the ships in Sea of Thieves.

  • @fisharefriend69 They did say there were going to be legendary ships in the game. But in the vote page for future content, the public have exceedingly chosen to vote for new ship types so we may see them soon enough on the roadmaps.

  • @axterius Interesting, happy to see the future of Sea of Thieves.

  • This is a fantastic idea , Thankyou Rare for such an amazing game.

  • I personally don't like the 1 man, 2 man, 3 man, 4 man, 5 man ship approach. I'd just like a variety of ships that can be crewed by an appropriate number of players to their size and function.

That said, a 2-3 man ship would be welcome by me, if it generally fell at a disadvantage to both current ships somehow. As in, only slighty stronger than the sloop and more nimble than the galleon, but much less nimble than the sloop and much weaker than the galleon.

My thought has always been on 2 guns per side, with one gun being on the lower deck so that it becomes unusable if the ship has say 40% sunk.

The sloop and galleon are very well balanced I think, for what they both are. Adding a new ship that doesn't disrupt that is always going to be difficult.

  • @inbred-chimera Thank you for the feedback, I will be sure to consider this. I think three ships is enough, but I agree with you, it might disrupt the balance. I will do anything I can to balance them!

  • @axterius I was just going to say a brig would be amazing
