Public Event Idea Nine Pieces Of Eight

  • So the Order Of Souls has skeleton forts, and i think its time the Gold Hoarders get a public event, and i'm naming it the Nine Pieces Of Eight.
    How it works is
1-Everyone Automatically gets riddle maps (I'm open to suggestions on another way to get these riddle maps) there are Eight riddle maps.
2- Each Riddle Map leads to an island where a key, or a piece of a key is buried, with me so far?
3-Good heres the catch though, Every time someone completes a part of the riddle, it shows for everyone on every single map.
4- Gather as many pieces as you can.
5-Snap the pieces that you have together, i think just press f on one to hold it and then the same with the others to snap them in place is fine.
6-A new map appears, this time its a buried treasure map, again everyone has this map.
7-Travel to the island shown on the map
8-Decide whether you will work together with the other crew/s, or kill them and take their pieces for your own.
9-Follow the map to a door on the island
10-Use the eight pieces that have combined into the ninth to open the door and claim your reward.

Edit: Thoughts and suggestions are most welcome

EDIT2: OH!! i just thought of a alternative way to do this!
8 Beams of light will shoot out from 8 different Islands, follow the beams to where they originate from and dig, there will be one of the 8 pieces there, take it back to your ship, the beam will still show even after being dug up, after all 8 pieces are dug up, a new bigger/different colored beam will appear indicating where the door is located, head there all the while trying to collect all 8 pieces in anyway you can, combine the 8 pieces into one piece making the 9th piece, use that to open the door.

  • @jack-littleshoe I feel that event wouldn't work because of one single mechanics reason. There aren't enough map slots (9) to do this without SEVERELY disrupting progression for people that don't want to do it. Many voyages give off multiple maps, and trying to automatically add 8 new maps to a player's inventory could break either the event or their voyages.

  • @glacefrostclaw yea, i know thats why i said at #1 if anyone had any other suggestions on how to get people the maps :/ maybe it should just be one map at a time ? but that would cause ALOT of fighting... maybe it should be some kind of cloud over a certain outpost letting you know the Gold Hoarder merchant has this voyage for sell? i really don't know...

  • @jack-littleshoe ah sorry I missed the parentheses somehow. I'm not sure how you'd implement them other than making it a special map inventory.

  • @glacefrostclaw yea... ah well i still think this idea could work, with some tweaking :P

  • @jack-littleshoe it's an interesting idea. Though... I'd expect 9 maps with a title of "Nine Pieces of Eight".

  • @glacefrostclaw yea!! in fancy swirling writing maybe even golden ink xD

  • Good Idea Mate, maby the map can be one at a time and update as teh new part is found... IDK the maps do take up alot of space so they have a point but the idea is awesome... Devs should be able to figuer it out... Event quest maps can be held in a different way since it would be a limited time i assume

  • I love the idea but its a giant open door for trolling for others to gang up on one or more and split the loot. How is this going to work for a single player on a sloop? The single player gets singled out every time right? how could we give everyone who plays a chance for a piece of the loot instead of a piece of certain death and zero treasure. Only for the bigger groups to kill the single players cause its easy to get rid of the weak. No fun for them... Not everyone gets to play in a 4 man ship. Or if a single player gets one piece of the map. Then hides so no one can find them to get the loot.

  • @tone-tzu yea i thought about that too, the problem is that leaves everyone who is taking part in this event heading to one island, i can just imagine the blood bath that would ensue, but who knows, maybe thats a good thing? theres alot of ways they COULD do it, i'm just not sure which ones would work best.

  • @wwjam1nnww yea, i hear ya, the one man sloop is definitely getting left out of certain things, but then again you can't really solo a raid in an mmo so maybe thats okay? but you did bring up a issue i hadn't though of, ya if there is that ONE trollish person who steals one of the keys and dosn't show up? thats a BIG problem, but then again you can do that currently with the skeleton fort keys so maybe it would be okay?

  • What if its lije a riddle solving thing? Where you find certain lore spots on random selected maps and you find on solve the riddles to get you to the main goal of finding the loot cave of gold horders? Then it would randomly put everyone crossing paths or looting the same island. First person or crew to figure out the clues and riddles gets a key to open the loot cave? Then the location appears on your map and you now have to sail quietly to you loot cave abd loot it before some one looking for you finds you and takes your chances away.

  • Then you have like nine pieces of riddles to get the gold horders treasure of 8. ?

  • @wwjam1nnww i'm not really sure how you want that to work, could you lay it out in steps?
    like
    1-do this
    2- do that
just so i have a clear idea on what you're suggesting?

  • So like a voyage you get from the tent. During the Gold horders event you would get the event voyage to random locations of 9 riddles to solve. First crew to complete the 9 riddles gets the key to loot the cave. However your paths will cross randomly with other pirates doing the same quest not knowing what step others are on we fight for completion to advance to the next riddle untill whom ever completes all 9 gets the key. Now they have to venture to a random island or fort with the key to now open the loot cave. In which if its at a fort will be gaurded by skeletal forces even on islands near caves you better expect skeletons to spawn.

  • @wwjam1nnww also getting 8 treasures for gold horders or for all factions divided how ever developers would gace it.

  • @wwjam1nnww [have it*]

  • @wwjam1nnww so you're saying we would get a total of 9 riddles but only get one at a time? and the first to complete all 9 would get a key? and a new map would spawn leading to the door? or would it be some sort of signal over the island in question? idk man it sounds a bit to simple to be a public event, but maybe i'm just overcomplicating my idea, or not understanding yours.

  • I like the idea of more public events but this doesn't sound feasible.

The immediate issue is that it would clog the inventory of unwilling players.

Another is that it is not something immediately obvious, like a giant skull in the clouds. Keeping with the theme, it's possible to have a treasure shaped cloud or raining gold instead of rain in a given direction to have indicators of where this event is taking place.

This collecting of what sound like puzzle pieces can and will be entirely impossible if someone decides to hoard it for themselves. If 2 separate crews get one of these pieces each, congratulations, it is now unwinnable. You absolutely would need one item only, much like the stronghold key, lest it becomes unwinnable and impossible to achieve otherwise.

You're potentially forcing unwilling participants into the foray as they can have a quest on one of these marked islands. The reason skull forts work so well is that nothing happens at forts outside of, well, skull forts.

Lastly, it's entirely possible to circumvent all of that and for some random noob to accidentally dig on the wrong spot on an island they happen to have quest on and take the loot for themselves. Then what?

So I like the idea of faction-related public events but this is not the one.

  • One problem with that. The current state of the game means nobody is going to bother cooperating, and everyone is just going to blow each other to the Ferry of the Damned.

Plus, as others have stated, having all of those maps will clog the inventory for players who don't want to participate.

  • @lizardheart i made an edit to the orginal post just now, maybe that idea would be to your liking? idk though.

  • @blam320 same as the post above ^

  • What if we had a NPC Ship with Merchant items on it sailing from outpost to out post that players would have to sink to get the loot? Of course they would be well defended with AI. Just an open idea for a merchant event. Could make a Gold horders ship of NPC pirates that are bringing in treasures to outpost from distant lands, that we could all battle to sink for loot. This was a friend of mine who had this idea. Any sugestions on this? This wouldn't clog up voyage space and give us a chance a random faction leveling?

  • @jack-littleshoe just 9 riddles one at a time as you complete them it would be like chapter type mission. As for knowing when the event is open developers could put a glowing chest outside of the Gold horders tent you could opt to open for the voyage.
