Sniper Rifle Still Broken While Scoped - Needs Sensitivity while scoped/zoomed option in menu

  • Hi,

My friends and I have had a problem with the sniper rifles since the beta. When we zoom in the sensitivity is really low compared to the unscoped sensitivity which makes it almost impossible to aim (and i mean really slow).
There is no way to fix this in game as there is not an inscope sensitivity option like some other shooters have, I hope this gets fixed so i can actually use my favourite type of weapon.
I can bypass this issue as i have a gaming mouse (i can change my dpi on the fly), but this is still really annoying and gives me a massive advantage over other people that also have this problem

    Please fix :(

  • This is an issue i have with cannons and the sniper rifle. Once zoomed or used your ability to aim is super slow. To the point where its impossible to hit the target or you lose the opporunity to hit the target by the time you turn your cannon into position.

  • @ramb0zld Your make a fare point. But wouldn't you agree that when the scope is cracked it gives an authentic pirate feel to that game, saying that you are a cheep pirate looking for the easy life of searching for treasure. Anyway that's my thought on the matter.

  • @luigi-glory I think you missed the point, I dont care about the way the scope looks with the cracked glass. Im saying my issue is when i hold down my scope button to aim, the sensitivity for some reason is so low I would literally have to drag my mouse across my whole mouse pad 50 times to do a 180 (and its a big mouse pad). Unfortunately for me this is not exaggerating, I cannot aim with this issue

  • @ramb0zld Ah Now i see what you were saying. In that case i would agree! with you statement.

  • @luigi-glory Thank you! haha I laugh but I'm really sad inside...send help
For the record I think the cracked scope visual is really cool :)

  • @ramb0zld Give me a Like Please
    (laughing on the inside)

  • @ramb0zld I think they put it in purposefully to offset the speed on targeting from PC to XBOX. Trying to level the playing field in some respect? this is just my theory and am not sure if it has been confrimed or not.

  • @demonicthing I'm not sure about that but it is currently unusable for me so something isn't right. When I scope I can't change the direction I'm looking without great effort..

  • @ramb0zld its how it is for me. I can just change my dpi up to the highest then set it back down after i finish scoping. so it really isnt that big of an issue

  • @demonicthing I can do the same, but it is still an inconvenience (especially in a fight). However a lot of people don't have gaming mice so they are basically completely screwed if they have this problem (unless you can somehow manage a sensitivity where your character does full 360's on slight movements just so the in scope sens is normal..)

Was gonna say the same, think I've read it on the forums that it's for balancing purposes.
Also, the cracked glass seems to serve as a crosshair imo :D
On a side note, I play on pc with a controller and it feels really slow as well.

  • @coloridium ya the cracked glass serves as a perfect cross hair for me. people with not very good vision I can see having an issue.

  • @coloridium Its definitely effective! I literally cannot aim lol. If they move after I scope in, I have to unscope and look in their direction again because I cant move where im shooting faster than a character can walk at any range...and thats even if I scope directly onto them on the first try (its harder when they are far and you are on a moving ship). I wish I could just aim normally..

thanks for posting this, I play on x1, and don’t have the dpi luxury, I completely agree.

  • @boaton Interesting to know its not just a pc issue, I really feel for you man, that would be just horrible :(

  • @ramb0zld It's the same with the controller, gotta unscope every time. I imagine they did it to counter the speed of a mouse so they reduced speed everywhere, but it seems like it was nerfed too much. Too bad as I also like the sniper.

  • I hope my Life Hack doesnt get me banned

I used to use a dry eraser marker too. LOL

Works for both PC and Xbox..

  • @ramb0zld

It makes sense as to level the plying field between platforms. If I used the sniper (which I don't) I have a mouse which can switch dpi on the fly and I'd use that.

  • @jackal-guardian Hahaha, I am definitely with you there! This is much better than my technology....Blutack :)

  • Here is a good video of the sniper rifle and why it will be addressed probably.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPmYbsItWRM

  • It's a balancing mechanic for keeping an even playing field and to prevent the scopes rifle to become the default weapon.

I mean if you could aim as quickly with the scopes rifle as you can with the pistol why bother picking the pistol?

Sure there are other solutions but its also intended to make it harder to quickly scan the horizon with a scope that's why the spyglass also has slower movement/sensitivity.

So to me it's working as intended.

Sure gaming mouses can circumvent it but that's beyond the Devs control just like onscreen crosshairs.

  • Check your mouse software for a "sniper" option. It's a changeable dpi setting that toggles on and off while holding a button. It's super easy and convenient to use and it allows you to set it to whatever you like. My scoped sensitivity is like my normal play with this option.

  • All this discussion (including balancing thing) was already discuted here :)

  • @ramb0zld I heard using the scope on PC is made that way intentionally to balance gameplay between PC players and Xbox players.

  • The sniper rifle is supposed to be really clunky. Otherwise it would be OP and everyone would use it. Ship battles would all be done by the players sniping each other from across the water. No one would attempt to board. What kind of pirate battle would that be? Also, sniper rifles didn't exist during the pirate era. I'm happy it's working this way.

  • @ramb0zld the rifle is supposed to be for long range not close or medium range. What I mean is that the sensitivity is set for long range aiming, if your sniping from long ramge, boat to land or land to boat, the sensitivity wont be as noticed the farther your aiming, you can do follow shots on players that are at long range with ez, but the closer the target the harder it is to aim because of the sensitivity

This is cross platform after all, we pc players would have the advantage if it was highier, still do in other aspects,
Remember that Call of Duty Tatic, aim by hip fire before scoping, as in before scoping just look at the target as striaght as posible, then scope on the target and then you should be dead on your target, with out having to deal with scoping in sensitivity

Now it can be argued that there could be a way to adjust the zooming and every zoom has the same sensitivity still, that would make the real difference,

  • @ramb0zld hopefully just a simple fix..

  • @fresherfoot I understand the balance side of things, but I just cant get behind it if the game is sacrificing playability. The sensitivity is so low, they have to be REALLY far away to aim, far enough that it is not possible to hit them (bullet drop). Which just adds to the frustration, you have to try and shoot a moving target on a moving ship and account bullet drop at the same time...and I cant even get to that part because I cant move where I'm aiming once I hold the scope button. What's more, to top all of it off, the sniper rifle is not even a one shot kill, I can't even hit people once..

Regardless, I will be setting up my gaming mouse to bypass this as I'm sure many other pc players would. Its just the most frustrating thing about the game (really the only thing for me)

  • @ramb0zld this sound as a huge excaggeration, I havent had a lot of trouble sniping far away targets even on moving ships.

are u kidding me that IS an big issue i couldnt change my DPI

  • @saltyzar I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating but it seriously is that bad, as I said in an earlier reply, I would have to slide my mouse about 50 times to do a 180. Its just horrible. At this point its dpi settings for me until they fix it

  • @kailmenoke I completely understand that. Only some pc players have the luxury of being able to change dpi and if you are a console player with this issue you are basically screwed.
The devs seriously need to revise their decisions as the current format is broken and unbalanced...

  • @ramb0zld your not supposed to do quick 180's , if thats the case your target is close range and the sniper shouldnt be easily used on that distance

  • @saltyzar I'm not sure its ok to say you are "not supposed to" as you can do this with the op one shot blunderbuss and pistol, but that's not my point. For me the sensitivity is so low I cant even do a 10 degree turn without great effort. So I will just use my gaming mouse to change my dpi...I like game balance, but game balance that sacrifices playability is not healthy in my opinion.
