Changing the COLOR of our CLOTHING. PATTERNS and SYMBOLS (Dye Shop)RARE NEEDS TO SEE THIS.

  • I just wanted to now if it had been talked about or confirmed if there will be a way for us to change the color of our clothes. Since character customization is a big part of the progression in this game I feel like there should be way to alter the color of our clothing. I'd like to imagine that a game of this type would have a feature like this, but with more and more games not including this option I just wanted to make sure that Rare didn't make the same mistake of assuming that nobody would care.

A simple way to add this to the game would be to put the option in the clothing shop. For some extra pieces of gold you can change the color of your clothing. Another way would be to add a DYE SHOP. A shop where you could not only pay to change the color of your clothes but you could also pay to change the color of your ships hull and sails. The shop could also have different PATTERNS and SYMBOLS that you could unlock and then pay with gold to have them applied to your outfits and your ship. These patterns and symbols could be seen as achievements and be a cool way for players to show off what they've accomplished in the world.

For Example: You see a fiery skull symbol on a ships sail and you know instantly that there is someone on that ship that has defeated the legendary skeleton, Captain Flame Beard. Or someone could see the symbol and have no idea where that person got that, but is determined to find out,now giving them something to work towards. (Had an idea for the symbols to also be able to be applied as tattoos to a players character.)

I hope that Rare takes these ideas into consideration. I feel like this is a simple to way to add some meaningful content for both new and old pirates to work for.

    Sincerely, Robert

  • @rob-alvl62human i like the idea, then i can have a chicken head on a flag :P

  • @rob-alvl62human

    Great idea!

I think this is a great way to not only distinguish yourself, but to get players to experience content or interact with the world in ways they maybe hadn't considered before!

It also opens the game up to some abstract gameplay!

By comparison, one of the most fun and rewarding MMO experiences I've had was running from the Shire to Rivendell as a level 1 chicken in Lord of the Rings Online!

It was challenging and hilarious, but also rewarded players with the cosmetic item Cloak of the Cluck!

  • I would love this type of feature. Adds more visual diversity to a game that has pretty much only cosmetic rewards. It almost seems necessary.

They had this kind of feature in Dauntless and I had a lot of fun changing up my color schemes.

I think the textures would work best on sails but maybe also on clothes.

  • I think this would be a very nice addition to the game.

  • @landiien Exactly! It would allow players to try things they wouldn't have before. Rare could even consider putting in hidden tasks that players could complete to unlock items that really make them stand out. (carrying a chicken from one side of the map to the other to unlock the chicken captain hat)

  • Would be cool especially to make your chracter that much more unique....but I would like to see a sail customization option rather than select something pre made...would be cool to create my own emblem like they got in For Honor or Black Ops

  • @rob-alvl62human

I love the idea of hidden tasks!

And in a pirate setting, I love the idea of discovering and judiciously disclosing secrets to other players!

It makes interacting with and befriending others that much richer!

  • Dye be a beauty of an idea, Ye' can only imagine the endless possibilities that could come from the inspirin' supplies of dyes.

  • The shop looks like it has dye pots outside.

  • this is a must. I really want to paint my admirals coat black and red so I can look like Barbossa.

  • I love the idea, mostly because if they add patterns and shapes I am wondering how long it would take for phallic shaped object to appear on sails.

    Crewmate: "Captain! A ship approaches!"
Captain: "Is she flying friendly colors?"
    Crewmate: "well......"

  • @rob-alvl62human yes, this needs to be a thing

  • Absolutely needs to be implemented. It only makes sense because on launch if there is a shirt that everyone likes and its white, everybody will be rocking that shirt :D now if you could change its color ah ?! xD wouldnt that be nice? xD

That saves some work for the developers as well since they dont need to always be developing new clothing sets since you can change colors on your already owned items kinda creating a new set of sorts :)

  • I would LOVE to be able to dye clothes. That said, unless they're already planning it, i doubt it would happen. Clothing models need to be created from the beginning to be dyed.

I hope it's in their plans. It definitely fits with the visual customization theme, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

  • @tre-oni If the clothing shop does have dye pots then there would be no need for the Dye shop. Instead you would just change the clothing colors at the clothing shop as well as apply the symbols and patterns. The ship color and symbols could be applied by the person on the dock.

  • @avirex-idyll I would imagine that if the symbols and patterns were implemented they would be limited to a single layer to prevent that from happening. So basically no symbol customization.

  • I'm for this. I think they already have this in mind since becoming a "Pirate Legend" would grant you special in-game items and missions. Hopefully its expanded upon.

  • @rob-alvl62human I saw in a video for the release date they show a red haired pirate in a white coat. This coat is the bilgerat coat that we had in the beta that was like green. I also saw the preorder hat with a blue jewel in it instead of green. These could just be old updated skins but could be a dye choice.

  • Sorry for bumping an old thread, I totally agree with this, They should've made a barber shop so we can colour our hair or change it like in GTA V, I don't like that you can just buy hair from the outfit shop.

Also, change eye colour too, I hate that you're limited on the pirate random generator, I finally found a good-looking pirate after 4 hours but i would like to change his hair colour and eye colour but for a game based off cosmetics, i feel limited.
