Random Characters are fine. But let us change them if we want to.

    Before you start to ramble, give me a chance and read this thoroughly please.

    I'm completely fine with the way Rare handles characters (Random generation). But it somehow destroys the purpose of cosmetics in the game.

    If i have to choose a random character and I just can't find one I'm satisfied with I can't change it later. Yeah, I can change some aspects, but not the appearance in terms of face, body type and gender for example.

    So if I'm unsatisfied with what my character looks like in return i don't care for cosmetics anymore. Why should I make a character I'm completely unsatisfied with have prettier clothes? There's no point in that for me. And that destroy the whole purpose of creating a pirate legend because I just won't. I won't care for cosmetics at all.

    So why not make it possible to change appearance? It doesn't necessarily has to be free in terms of ingame money, a special voyage or something else creative. You know what? I'd even be finde with changing the appearance in exchange for, i dont know, 5 bucks or so.

    This may very well be a special snowflake request, but I guess some of you fellow pirates think the same.

    It just feels not right with the way it currently is (at least for me).

    EDIT: I don't mean that you are able to change specific body aspects, but to re-roll the random character generation later down the line.

    I'll hold out for the game before casting judgement.
    What I will say though is that the Devs mentioned a near unlimited choice of characters to choose from, so if people are willing to spend up to two hours creating their own toon, then just spend those two hours clicking 'next' instead. You will find your perfect toon eventually.
    I do like the suggestions of bookmarking, or highlighting a particular model in order to filter results though. That would make things much easier.

    @mauseknoddel there are tons of different char. sets and you saing that you NOT satisfied with it ?
    For example i wanna play fat black lady becouse i wanna be vicious pirate captain with fun name. I 100% sure that i can find that model when choosing char :)
    Just reroll till you get the one you want to play.

    I fully understand this, I had the same problem, I searched for an hour for a character and chose a character at a strange angle that made me think it was a character I would enjoy playing as and when I saw the character in game, I closed the game down and went onto the forums. I asked khaleesibot and she will tell you that you are not stuck with this character, you will be able to re-select because this is a stress test but, in the full game you will be stuck with a character you choose.
    I feel like there should be ways to reset this though.
    But try to keep your morale up!

    @originalzulkai I like the bookmarking idea. Another option that might make it easier for players to choose a character would be just to have filters where you choose different traits such as age, gender, body type, etc. That way you can see all your options without wasting time rerolling random options hoping to eventually find something you like.

    I too wish for a way to "re-roll" my current pirate without having to delete. Also, it shouldn't cost a single gold, I've messaged devs. Asking if this will eventually be a reality but no reply....yet.

    Yeah I can agree with this post. It would be nice to be able to change your characters physical appearance. I sat in the character creator for a good 30 minutes before I found a character I can kinda like, but I still want to put a mask on him.

    We should be able to either keep our legend progress when making a new character or be able to purchase changes to our physical appearance.

    I have a feeling we will be able to in the form of microtransactions. If rare wants to keep the clothing ,weapon skins etc stuff for us to chase if they put all the cool looking stuff up as micros a lot of people will buy it and then have nothing to grind for anymore. So i imagine they are looking into the other stuff like convenience (changing appearance/gender) stuff like that.

    That would fix the known issue of characters changing skin and hair color they have been talking about in the post-launch updates... tickets been open going on 2 weeks now

    @stonedscallywag Yeah i'm still waiting to hear back from support about my characters tattoos that disappeared i normally wouldn't mind , but its one of the main reasons i picked what i did .

    @stonedscallywag Yeah , but they have messaged me back and told me the issue hasn't been fully resolved yet so hopefully it will be able to be reverted. It would suck if they aren't able to get those to come back . I would probably delete my character to be honest im only at 30-30-30 right now and with pirate legend not having much at the moment would be the best time to re-roll.

    I spent a lot of time in the IPG and after locking in eight pirate women that looked half decent I spent more time looking at each one more closely. There are of course a number of things I can't see on them like tattoos, scars, missing teeth ect. and depending on the animation they were performing or clothing they were wearing you can't see most of the stuff you want or don't want.

    Finally settled on my pirate lady and knew she was going to have some modifications I didn't like. She of course is missing a couple teeth on the bottom row of her mouth but she has a slight under bite and a larger lower lip so you can't really see it unless I do certain emotes.

    Here's hoping in the future I can tweak her a bit, or at the very least give her some gold teeth with the gold I'm making on the seas.

    Or additional character slots with a shared inventory and wallet. Not necessarily progress, because maybe I want to roll another character when I became Legend with one (cough). But a shared inventory and wallet would be awesome.

    And it would be awesome if I could play as different pirates.

    On the randomness: I think it's actually not bad the way it is, you may have to choose a pirate that is not exactly the way you wanted, but that also increases his personality, because you won't find lots of similar pirates. If you can alter the appearance to your will, we will most likely see lots of archetypes of the same appearance.

    @mauseknoddel I was agreeing with you until said you'd pay 5 bucks. They've messed up with this awfully stupid IPG. No basic filters, no pose or lighting change. I won't pay a penny until they man up and add everything that was missing in the first place. Too many act like a thirsty man that's ready do anything for a drop of water. We deserve more than that.

    I also like the idea to reroll character once created. I didn't spend too much on rolling character 'cause I wanted to play asap when i bought the game...
