I think it would be fun to add a mon o war where it is a 6 or 8 player ship. This would have more cannons on the sides and 1 or 2 at the front and back. This could even have multiple layers of cannons on it. What do you think?
Man o war
I'm in favor of this idea. However it would have to be a very cumbersome vessel, a real challenge to operate with a large crew. Only way to compensate for a all that firepower.
That said, it's not very historically accurate. Most pirates used smaller boats. The only historical pirate warship that I can think of was the Queen Anne's Revenge. Edward Teach only had it for a short time as he accidentally ran it aground.
Cumbersome
@the-beast-45432 I like the idea it might be a challenge but i see most people like challenges so it might just fit in well
I want a ship with more then 8 cannons man o war is nice and i would love to see it rather drive or against a man o war also pirates did use smaller ships but at the same time you cant deny they was not sailing the seas because there was many who did and you would need a serious crew willing to listen to their capt and want to be a well oiled crew with that they would be among the deadliest crews sailing sea of thieves so bring it

There were more ...
The Wydah
The Adventure Gally
Royal FortuneAnd Teach didn't accidentally run it aground according to most reports. He intentionally did so to reduce the treasure split.
But, you're right - big ships were not typical. They weren't fast enough to catch vessels.
@g3o47 You might get your wish, Rare said a new ship type is coming (presuming its not the 4 man sloop). Fingers crossed.
Most crews are random folk playing with each other. It's a pain getting a galleon working efficiently with random people. A good chunk of them do nothing. Usually it's one or two people running the ship with others pottering around.... Now imagine the horror of trying to do much of anything with a 6 to 8 man ship.... You'll be beating your head against a wall inside 10 minutes. Give it a year until only the more diligent players are left, and you'll have the necessary crew competence to make it work.
I still don't understand the level of effort vs reward in asking for larger ship sizes.
What are we gonna do? Finish fetch quests designed for 4 people or less.. faster? I can't imagine the boredom splitting the game between 6, let alone 8.
A 2 masted 2-cannon per side ship for 3-4 is what the community definitely seems to need.

Fight other ships of course. That's pretty much the actual point of the game, fetch quests only exist to give people something to fight over, treasure to be won.
@only-alexraptor I agree, but have you seen this community?
People can't seem to 3man galleons without it being world-ending. Not to mention, the ridiculous amount of solo/duos talking about unfairness. Then there's the people wanting 4-man sloops to ease the difficulty. Don't forget all the griefer/afk stories, too.
Larger ships become relevant when there is an Armada v Armada instanced game mode with top three teams getting loot or something etc etc.

Joining a clan/fleet makes a world of a difference in efficiently operating large ships.
if it has any kind of gameplay difference to the galleon or sloop, you are wrong
a new class of ship could only be introduced to all players without compromising stated developer ethics/policies
@the-beast-45432 personally I think it would first be better to add maybe a pinnace or frigate to fill the (solo only) and 3 player crews better you could have solo pinnace smaller than a sloop with 1 deck and 1 front fire cannon which is highly manoeuvrable but slower than all other ships or frigate 3 man crew shorter than a galleon 2 masts with 2 cannons either side and 2 decks
@casesugar401098 If you're looking for historical accuracy in sea of thieves, you're in the wrong place.
Looking towards the future, I don't mind the idea of a bigger ship. I do agree that is must be with its specific drawbacks as this would only be fair. That said, with so many cannons I could image a crew burning through all reserves super quick.
If they were looking into new ship ideas, I do think they should first create a specific 1 man ship with no cannons and a 3 man ship first however.
I forget where I read it, but if they come out with the 4 man sloop I am going to spit my coffee out of my mouth when I read those patch notes.
