Maybe in the create your crew menu, you can do split screen. It might be difficult, but possible! Up to 4 players can join in couch co-op.

@D3ADST1CK How? Many games more complex can do it, Rare has done it themselves. They can theoretically do it. It's difficult though.
@tristan8674 They have been walking the console memory tightrope for the entire time the game has been running. There's no way they will be able to add 3 additional render viewpoints.

Very TrueMy friend’s little brother would love split screen…them both playing on the same console would be awesome.
Unfortunately, they have a 2013 XBOX ONE.
So for the sake of preventing Xbox Ones across the world from X-ploding, we can’t do split screen.
Even if Rare finally took the Xbox one out back, they would probably still need to update the game engine. And then they could perhaps consider it.
All of which could happen over the next 6 months, but it is unlikely.

Split…reduces view and you need to see everything..Well, you see @BurnBacon, people don't care if they play on a smaller screen, they care about playing with friends. You kind of seem oblivious to the fact of the existence of couch co-op. Not many families and friends want to buy a whole new XBOX with Game Pass just to play games w/ each other. I know on the competitive side, it seems worse, but just playing, sailing, and fighting with your friends doesn't do much wrong. It doesn't hurt you directly, does it? It hurts nobody. The only logical way they could do this is to make an optimization team to well, optimize the flimsy code. Sea of Thieves is in UE4, and is very capable of doing split screen. They just need to optimize their code, which is a daunting task.
