New Accessibility Setting Suggestion

  • I am a long term player, playing for over 6 years at this point. I love Sea of Thieves, no other game is like it. My problem is that I am visually impaired. I make due in this game as much as I can, but there is one thing that haunts me to this day: the birds above the loot in the water.

As a visually impaired player, I have difficulty spotting the birds that appear above floating loot. These birds are intended to help players locate loot in the water, but they often blend into the sky or become difficult to distinguish at a distance, making them ineffective for players with reduced vision. I would like to suggest adding an accessibility option that increases the visibility of loot birds.

A high-contrast outline around the birds or an optional glow or highlight effect would work; or maybe increase the size or improve the visibility at longer distances. This would not change the mechanics of the game or provide an unfair advantage—it would simply make an existing visual indicator more accessible to players with visual impairments.

Thank you for considering this accessibility improvement. I believe it would make Sea of Thieves more enjoyable and inclusive for many players who struggle with visual clarity.

  • I DO NOT have vision issues and I struggle to see the birds all the time unless I'm playing on a large TV. I usually play the game on a 22 inch screen, and the only way I can routinely see birds is by spyglassing around where I think the boat sank.

  • I think maybe having a setting that you could enable which would highlight the birds when pointing the spyglass at them would increase visibility without ruining the current aesthetic. They could also add a chime or bird noise when you spot them, similar to how they handle player and skeleton ships.

  • Good heavens yes. My vision isn’t terribly impaired, but it’s very hard to see those birds. Heaven forbid you are in the wilds or devils roar, it’s basically over at that point.

You know what would solve this? A Red parrot circling with the seagulls. Red contrasts well with blue sky and grey clouds, and parrots squawk loudly.
