I love Sea of Thieves, and that's exactly why it's frustrating

  • Rare,

I love Sea of Thieves, and that's exactly why it's frustrating to see so many long-standing issues continue to affect the experience. The game has incredible potential, but right now it feels like technical problems are taking priority over the fun.

From Last Ship Standing not functioning correctly, to Fort of the Damned breaking because skeletons sometimes fail to spawn, there are still gameplay issues that prevent players from completing activities as intended. The Crew Ledger loading bug that can occur when starting a session—sometimes requiring a complete game restart—is another example of a problem that has lingered for far too long.

Beyond those, players continue to report issues such as hit registration inconsistencies, rubber-banding, server desync, long black loading screens, unstable server performance during busy encounters, and UI bugs. Not every player experiences every issue, but they're common enough that they remain a regular topic of discussion within the community.

One area that also deserves another look is the Chest of Fortune. The World Event rotation itself is fine—it keeps the seas feeling varied. The issue is that the Chest of Fortune is locked almost exclusively to Skull Forts. This funnels a huge portion of the player base toward a single event while making the other World Events feel less rewarding. Rotating the Chest of Fortune between different World Events, as has been done in the past, would make every event feel exciting again and encourage crews to engage with a wider variety of content instead of repeatedly sailing to forts.

Another concern is the continued reduction in the requirements for achievements and commendations. Making content more accessible is understandable, but repeatedly lowering the requirements can reduce the sense of accomplishment for players who earned those commendations under their original conditions. It would be great to see Rare preserve the prestige of difficult achievements while introducing new commendations that everyone can work towards.

The community isn't asking for perfection. We're asking for stability, consistency, and confidence that long-standing issues are being addressed. New content is always welcome, but it's difficult to fully enjoy it when bugs that have existed for months—or even years—continue to affect core gameplay.

Please make game health the priority. Fix the long-standing bugs, improve server performance, address the persistent gameplay issues, and let new content build on a solid foundation. Sea of Thieves has one of the best sandbox experiences in gaming, and it deserves the level of polish that matches its potential.

  • Recently, there have been random events where the Curse Fortress keeps getting stuck, and all the hard work has been in vain

  • @k1-king Exactly. That's another good example of the kind of issues I'm referring to.

When events like the Cursed Fortress get stuck and can't be completed, players lose their time, effort, and often their rewards through no fault of their own. Moments like that are incredibly frustrating, especially in a game that encourages players to invest so much time into World Events.

These issues don't need to happen often to have a big impact. When they do, they undermine confidence in the game's stability. That's why I believe improving game health and fixing persistent bugs should be a higher priority alongside new content.

  • I honestly believe it's time for SoT to enter a Maintenance Mode period where they full stop adding any content, even items to the Emporium, and lock in on bug fixes, stability fixes, new game loops, etc, for at minimum 2 years. They don't realize that with all the Xbox layoffs and Microsoft restructuring, there most likely won't BE a Sea of Thieves to earn money with if they don't take a step back from trying to do so.

  • @boneheart1237, I understand where you're coming from. I don't know if I'd go as far as saying they should stop all new content for two years, but I do think the focus has to shift much more heavily towards game health.

If players keep running into the same bugs, server issues, and broken events season after season, it doesn't matter how much new content is added—it becomes harder for people to stay invested. A stable, polished game is what keeps players coming back.

I also think your point about taking a step back is important. Sometimes investing time into fixing the foundation is more valuable than trying to constantly build on top of it. In the long run, that's likely to benefit both the players and the game itself.

They are in every known World Event, atm it’s bugged they only appear in certain ones or not at all. They will have it fixed

Heck your insiders….most things you mention are on insiders.

  • I actually haven't played Insider for a long time. I stopped because it was taking away the excitement of new updates for me. I much prefer experiencing new content for the first time when it's released to everyone rather than already knowing what's coming.

My feedback is based on the live game and the issues players are experiencing there, not on anything from Insider. I genuinely hope the bugs get fixed, because I want to see the game in the best state it can be.
