Diving to swap ships

  • Hey!

First of all, this suggestion is not that we want to stay in the same server, we do not care about that.

My friends and I would love the option to dive and change size of ships so that we can more easily adapt to the number of people being available for sessions without losing everything every time. Changing ships and restocking is consumption of time that we have to do too many times as we get older when sessions can't be many hours long for everyone.

Losing treasures on the ship is fine, but we'd like to keep some resources as resource runs are a waste of time, even if it has gotten better since release.

A thought on how to design this could be diving and then after the loading screen of going upwards the ship will change to the chosen ship-size with the resources being aggregated to the appropriate storages, any stray loot or resources of any kind is lost.
There could also be a limit to how much of a given resource that can be brought depending on ship type.

  • A way to change ships in one session has been requested for so so long. I couldn't agree more. There's probably a technical reason for why it hasn't been implemented, so repurposing diving is such a smart alternative.

  • fine, but we'd like to keep some resources

Galleon crew. All barrels max full. Decide to switch to a sloop. The barrels on a sloop hold less, where do all the extra resources go??

  • @burnbacon That's where my last sentence comes into play: "There could also be a limit to how much of a given resource that can be brought depending on ship type."
I did have a more detailed explanation of how it could work, but the forums refused to let me post it for some reason. But in general my idea was that a limit to something like a couple of hundred cannonballs just to give you a baseline start. So going to a Sloop would let you bring at max 200 cannonballs, brig 300 and Galleon 400. More than enough to get you going for quite some time.

  • When you re-emerge, you should enter into the pirate legend hideout. More incentive to achieve PL.

Credits largely goes to my crewmate when we discussed it.

  • @burnbacon I would suggest a flat amount of extra supplies given, maybe the amount as if you purchased supplies from the shipwright twice, or something.

  • I am 100% in favor of this.

  • The requirement to dive is what sold me @MrPeters8348 . Have an upvote sir!

  • I agree with this in principle as the main concern of these requests has always been people who are sunk come back with bigger ships and crew each time.

The cynic in me is worried, as diving has such a tendency to be a source of bugs, animation issues, blackscreens etc that the ship change might be beyond us in the current state of the game.
Assume you want to swap from one captained ship to another etc.

  • @valor-omega

What if it gives you stuff you didn’t need? Maybe I wanted to keep my 100 curses? But it only gives me 20 of them
Doubt they wanna code in extra things just to give you small about of resources you collected.

So far. This only works for small crews going big. But not in reverse.

The main reason it cant be done in server is due to servers having both a ship and player count limit, with the ship limit being 6, and the player limit being 20, so if you have 5 galleons on a server, you cant physically fit another ship of any kind due to the player limit. The servers used to handle 6 galleons, but with degradation of server stability the only time viable to swap ship sizes is outside of the server you are currently in.

Heres hoping some day things can change for the better and it is more viable, but this request is the best method i can think that fits with how servers work.

  • @burnbacon Might be difficult to code, but have exceptions for special items (cursed cannons, wraith cannons, etc).
