Realistic flintlock pistols and Muskets

  • I would love to see realistic weapon reloading animations (Gunpowder, ramrod, musketballs, the whole shabang) and weapon models (such as replacing eye of reach with musket) be implimented into either a realistic mode (With one shot kills, and realistic weapons etc.) or just in the entire game (that would be awesome) because it would add to the feel of actually being a pirate in the 18th century. And even if it could never happen I think it would be cool to have an eye of reach skin without a scope and looks like a musket.

  • I think realistic reloading animations is a cool idea, but there's only so much you can cram into the relatively short reloading animations. It would be nice to actually see the bullets loaded in.

I like the thought of a realistic mode, but you lose something when you develop for 'realism'. The weapon gameplay is punchy without being "aim and hold the fire button" like most FPS games. To make things realistic, would slow things down a lot and cause a lot more requests for other things to be more realistic.

Everything in the Sea of Thieves, down to the art style, preserves a feeling of a wonderful and mysterious world with all sorts of magic and curses throughout, and I don't think realistic flintlock loading really fits with that.

Realism is a design choice, not a gameplay upgrade.

  • add to the feel of actually being a pirate in the 18th century

Maybe we should also remove the Ferry of the damned, skeletons walking, actual head wind doesnt move the ship, water on gunpowder doesnt work :P

  • Double Barrel shows the ball load.

  • implimented into either a realistic mode

Nah. The devs don't want to split the player base & require separate balancing. That's literally why Arena was closed.

or just in the entire game

...No. SoT is not a 'realistic' game. I don't want the weapons changed to make reloading take 5 minutes per shot.
    If you wanted 'realism':

    • Food should not heal. Since eating does not magically close wounds.
    • Gunshots, falls, explosions, and shark bites should cripple characters.
    • No more Ferry of The Damned. 'Real' people don't return from the dead. Once you die; your character is deleted!
    • No more walking skeletons!
    • No more mermaids! They ain't real!
    • The kraken has to go, too!
    • No more sailing directly into the wind!
    • No more cursed gold/magical, unopenable treasure chests!
    • No more cursed cannonballs!
    • Oh yeah; Where are all the free ships coming from? There's no lumber industry in SoT! So once you sink; You are shipless forever!
    • Actually; No more SoT! It's a magical place described as 'In the fold of the map'. And we want 'realism'!

My point with all that is that nothing about SoT is 'realistic'. Why would they suddenly make a new mode that they have to balance, or change every gun for everyone, even people who don't want it to suddenly throw something 'realistic' in it?

  • Just speaking for myself, I'd much rather them concentrate their time, money and resources on problems like cheaters, hit reg, bugs, glitches, the waves that keep interfering in HG, etc. instead of making my gun's reload look more real.

  • cool idea in theory, but would be awful in gameplay. Take the loading animations in AC4, if they were in SoT, nobody would use double guns because they wouldn't be viable anymore. Everyone one you would meet would use a sword becuase no player would want to wait 5-10 seconds reloading in the middle of a fight

  • Realism isnt always immersive. If you fire a shot and have to spend the next 10 seconds reloading, you wont be using your guns ever, and being realistic historical pirates isnt exactly the goal of this game. Realism was never a factor in the design, and this game is far better off for it.

  • SOT is based on a piratical fantasy, for this reason you can hold 10 cannonballs in your pockets and swim like it is nothing.

  • @burnbacon Fair, fair

Yeah, I guess it was more of me fantasizing about musket reloads than actual realism in the entire game but your point is more than fair, it makes perfect sense why they would never make a "realistic mode".
