The horn of fair winds, a very long grind

  • As you all know the 12th season introduced one of the longest grinds in SOT for a very illusive item: the horn of fair winds. Now the reason we have to sell 250 of these things really escapes me but I stopped applying logic to SOT grinds since the shrouded ghost business. Still some questions remain like: Do you have a better chance to farm this object on the high seas or the safe seas? Does the number of ships in a server affect the spawning rate? Are the shipwrecks better or the treasuries?

Personally I would like some help from the good people of the forum on how to complete efficiently this commendation, any suggestion, guide or tip you might have is highly appreciated.

  • They announced on YouTube yesterday they are lowering the requirements of the commendation. I feel like ever since the May patch they have been even rarer. So hopefully the June patch next week will reduce the commendation to a better number and fix the spawn rate.

  • @metal-ravage they announced in SoT News that the commendation completion requirements will be getting lowered in the next update. They didn’t say to what, but I can imagine it’s a significant reduction.

  • They did state they would reduce it but it's still a very long grind considering how rare the item is. I've done 3 shrines and 2 treasuries. I'm still to find my first one.

I expect the number required for the commendation will be reduced from 250 to 100.

  • @loch1907 At least that is a more reasonable number although with how rare this stuff is I rather see an increase on the horn spawning with the total amount to collect at 50.

  • They deffo need to increase the spawns iv only fount 3 since they have been released.

100 is still too high IMO.

If it's a commendation that is "Turn in this specific item", it should be 30-50 maximum (e.g. Breath of the Sea). If it's more than that, it needs to be able to be found everywhere. Beaches, shipwrecks, part of loot hoards, etc... As an example, the barnacle chest commendation is 300, but there are several variants of that chest and they are found in multiple locations which makes it way more likely that you could stumble on 2-3 of them in a given session and a lot more if you specifically look for them.

  • @d3adst1ck I completely agree with you. At the moment, I'd say the Horn is more difficult to obtain than the Chest of Fortune and you only have to turn in 30 every Season or so.

They have to either make the number much lower or really turn up the spawn rate (to the point where it can be found on beaches etc)

    "Longest Grind" Okay....so?
But fear not, they talked about dropping it. Maybe it be 5 since 250 is such a horrible number.

frankly idk why they even bother making these grinds when they should know after the Milestones complaints on grinding for pirates and ships, players dont wanna spend time ingame anymore. They want the rewards by doing less time and have everything before Flameheart arrives. :p

  • @burnbacon theres a big difference between a long grind and whatever the hell the grind is currently for the horn, it feels like a job. if you can login to the game play it for 10 hours with the sole intent on progressing that 1 specific commendation do nothing wrong and not find a single one and then see you need to turn in 250 of the things thats far too much. reasonable people dont have 1000s of hours to spend on that grind

  • I think its fine to question the balance of things even with the shrouded ghost that is a case where most players are not supposed to ever see one. But with the wind horn, im pretty sure its intended that anyone can sell enough to complete the commendation. It really is just questionable.

    We can only hope!

  • @burnbacon I don't mind a good grind when only titles or commendations are locked behind it, yet in this case the horn was supposed to be a new tool in the seas. As rare as the cursed cannonballs you would think in order to change the way a chase is performed or battle is fought. The horn is so illusive that whoever finds it hurries up to sell it instead of using it as it was intended.
