Incentive to report cheaters

  • As a lot of players keep running into cheaters I would like to make the following suggestion.

Introduce a reward system for succesfully reporting cheaters that result in a ban. E.G.

2 succesfull reports reward a sail.
4 succesfull reports reward a hull.
6 succesfull reports reward a figurhead.
    etc etc..

I think this system would work two ways. It will incentivize players to make more and good reports.
Also it might deter cheaters from using their cheats when they spot a ship with above mentioned cosmetics.

  • Then many people will just start reporting everything under the sun and the support team would get flooded with reports.

^ 4d ago mate, already kinda discussed here :'D

  • You could also become a target as you're essentially sailing around with "Snitch" written on your head haha

I'm all for getting cheaters and griefers off the seas but implementing something like this will be cheesed in some way as everything is in SoT. You'd end up with people making alt accounts with the intent to get banned so their main account can get the cosmetics.

Then what happens to Rare is that they will have all the 'genuine' reports mixed in with the cheesed reports.

    I don't see this working

  • The reward you get for reporting cheaters is having less cheaters in the game. Seeing as 1, there is no guarantee you will run into cheaters to "earn" these items, and some people would just try to report every last person possible in hopes to get the cosmetics.

Big no to this, no incentivizing abuse of a system.

  • My worry would be...

Players create alts to report and gain these achievements/cosmetics/commendations (in turn probably making this worse?)

I love the idea behind this - it would be nice to reward players for keeping the seas clean of these bad actors. But not sure this is it. Still, I love the passion for ridding the seas of bad actors.

  • @magnetar-prime false flag reports would go through the roof as the team get overwhelmed by bad actors trying to get exclusive cosmetics.
Innocent people get banned for no reason.
And the support team are overwhelmed by tickets.
Nah, getting someone banned is satisfying enough, I don’t need rewards for doing it.

  • Also, funny little thing - do you know that in Apex Legends, and many other games if a cheater is in your team, and you keep playing with him (do not quit the session), there's a high chance of getting a ban yourself? How about that reward hahaha :D

Wholeheartedly agree - we do not need any rewards for reporting cheaters. If your report is valid, they'll get banned, and that's a reward good enough.

PS. many games do not even confirm if someone got banned by your report (Fortnite as an example). Getting a confirmation is a sweet reward. ;)

  • As long as this game does not have any anti cheat, its not a good idea. Becouse people are pretty "triggerhappy" with the report button in this game, and i kind of understand why after the cheater waves been around.
And my worry is, there are gonna be so much false reports, and people are gonna get banned left and right without even being a cheater or anything.
Becouse many people ive seen cant handle a loss and just blame cheats
