How to fix Sea of Thieves Hourglass Battles from lasting hours

  • I found that many players simply often just evade you and go to the opposite end of the map just to drag you around for hours. Sometimes both you and the opposite crew have practically infinite resources making battles last hours and hours. While yes, some people may find this fun, most do not. Often times you will find either players leaving the battle and game or troll back by parking on the opposite end of the circle till the other person gets tired of sitting there and/or evading only to evade him to waste his time.

My suggestion for the fun of Hourglass pvp, and to test the mettle of our fellow pirates is to improve the system by implenting a time limut and score system.

Make it so that at the end of a time limit. If either ships dont sink, whoever's crew who's score is lower, thier hourglass explodes. Thus ending the battle.

The scoring system and time limit can be reused from Arena, where you score points for shots landed and kills.

Same was said about chasers, but not really. :P

    ah huh...and?

where you score points for shots landed and kills.

So I can shoot you once, and continue to run away from you. Since I have the one shot that counts as higher score than you. I dont need to continue to fight, just run away for hours....

While this is true. This is why there is a time limit. Its not a perfect solution but I think it be better or at least a step in the right direction to creating a fun competitive pvp scene without absolutely boring the fan base for hours. I think people can handle at the very least 10 to 15 min of chasing before the game tells them they lost.

Course, if its such a peoblem of people running after gettinf a higher score, it can be set that you need to be x value higher than your opponent. Like there are ways to tweek it.

I mean hey, if you have a better solution, I am all ears in how to change the game mechanics where it would support a fun competitive environment where it would encourage more people to keep doing hourglass battles instead of people turning away from it cuz they get so few xp/levels when they consistantly get stuck in hours and hours long battles. Just saying "so sad, too bad", or "get gud" is not really an appropiate answer here. I would think a fan base would want to make the game more fun an enjoyable for everyone, not just a few.

The feature failed. Give it some time and they will discount the rewards in a desperate, failed attempt to keep the feature alive.

  • @foambreaker could just buff loss xp so people stop being jerks in hg and focus on the fight instead of how to get one over on the other guy losing is far from worth it in hg let them keep there supplies but drop a copy for wining crew buff loss xp so lossers aren't so salty winners still keep all treasure and flags and get multiplier so I say this is MORE than fair these simple changes will get people to stop rage quiting after losing and since they still have supplies can dive right back in or even get more dependent on how much they lost in the fight
