A Letter to Rare - An Ancient Curse Afflicts Us All!

  • Dear Rare,

While running away from danger on Thieve's Haven late last night, I noticed that everything went dark, as my lantern mysteriously disappeared from my hand as I sprinted back to safety. This made it incredibly hard to navigate and avoid the island's traps, but as you can see from this message, I got lucky - otherwise, you wouldn't be receiving this letter.

Still, I have noticed that my tools and weapons have a tendency to disappear mysteriously from my hands whenever I am in a hurry.

My challenge for you is to help lift this curse! Preferably by year's end, if you think that possible. I was told that only your crew has the power to do so - a Rare thing indeed. Your ship is aptly named.

I want to be able to run, with my supplies, tools, and weapons still firmly in hand. Nothing else needs to change in how I use them, or for how long for that matter. I just think that I would be more animated as a result, wouldn't you agree? The Sea would certainly be a livelier place, in my opinion.

    Sincerely,
    GG

  • @galactic-geek shouldve just ran with your lantern out in my opinion.
In all seriousness this would be greatly appreciated and a good QOL update, at least do it for the lanterns…. And maybe instruments:)

    Sir Kringle,

Thank you for your correspondence and support in this matter - however, this curse still ails me so! I cannot run with my lantern - every time I try, it disappears until I stop running! And it's not just with the lantern, but all of my tools, supplies, and even my weapons! This curse doesn't just ail me neither - it ails all pirates that venture through the Shroud! Try it, and you will see that you yourself are no exception. This curse afflicts you too!

Again, I appreciate your support, but I'm on a mission for a cure all - not just for me or my lantern, but for all of us, and all of our stuff too!

Don't you even wonder where it all goes when we run? If we could solve that mystery, perhaps nobody would be able to steal away with our loot!

    Best regards,
    GG

  • I can understand why they wouldnt want to make a running animation for every tool if they never do, but im sure that they could make some pretty awesome animations if they did, especially for the weapons, the pistol could be flicked so they hold it by the barrel, the eor swaying in both hands, and blunder either held with other hand, or laying over the shoulder... the sword... im not sure how they wouldnt make it look dangerous...

  • Tis’ obvious why, my friend! Clearly, us pirates lose our balance when running with something in our hands so we must put them away!

    But put them away where!?

  • @galactic-geek I find myself needing to stow my gear all the time on my voyages. As for where I put them… I don’t know you well enough to answer that.

  • @galactic-geek Somewhere below….

    @galactic-geek Somewhere below….

How many leagues we talking about here? 20,000?

  • @galactic-geek Depends on how far you can reach! Might be a submarine there, though, if you go too deep.

  • Bilge Rat Cheers

    Yes!!

  • @galactic-geek things disappearing from ur hands is an intentional thing. It would take a lot of effort to make sure none of the objects clip while running, as well as the new animations made for all of them. Instead Rare decided to spend that effort on something more important, and I get that

I get it too, but having things not clip is just part of the animation process - they come up with numerous emotes with very little clipping every update, so I doubt this is too much of an ask.

Ye telling me I could fit a submarine in my pockets, but not a skull or even a small key!?!?

  • The unspoken rule of being a pirate: safety first. What if you were to trip and fall on your lantern? All that oil and fire. Why you'd be aflame faster than a fire lord. And heaven forbid if you should fall on your own sword or on your pistol and have it go off prematurely!

No, no, my friend. We've all been trained far too well in pirate safety to just willfully abandon such ingrained muscle memory. It would be like teaching a boat to take flight! Inconceivable!

Ah yes. Holding a lantern or gun while running is dangerous, but having 10 heavy cannonballs and 5 easily breakable fire bombs in your pockets while you're leaping away from some skeletons and jumping down cliffs is completely fine and not dangerous at all!

  • @realwebber69 Well, maybe I am! For starters, a submarine wouldn’t have been cursed!

But CURSED cannonballs are ok? I mean cursed is literally in the name! Clearly hauling around all these cannonballs aren’t going to do well for our legs…and our overall well-being…

  • @realwebber69 That would explain the endless limp...

  • @realwebber69

    Look at me.

    I am the submarine now.
