Fleets Forts and Navy

  • In sea of thieves we have alliances but they only last for the session so the solution is fleets each player can make one for a certain amount of coins for another certain amount of coins they can raise capacity but where would this fleet meet up easy for 100,000 you can create a fleet base maximum ships docked is 5 for the fort trusted people and owner of the fleet can buy more things shops defenses etc...
Now there are pirates to stop other pirates but sometimes they for alliances so you should add the navy they spawn in towns players can join the navy but there may be npc ships if the navy doesn't have maximum players they can choose the same ships but altered from there usual pirate look there are no rats and the ship interior is a bit more colorful so that's all I have to say today goodbye.

  • Also to make this possible increase maximum ships

  • Really no comments?

  • A cool idea to be sure, but the servers already struggle to support the current number of ships per server.

  • @valor-omega I guess they have been to busy to pay attention to how much the server can hold without crashing.

  • @mincham39 Far from it, actually. Rare has been actively looking at what servers can handle, and is why they've lowered the ship count from 6 to 5 again, fairly recently.

  • @valor-omega Well I dont know much about Rare's activity i guess you do as an insider

  • @mincham39 cool idea and all but this would reduce the sad MS Azure servers to a melted pile of flaming datacenter.

We need to reach 8-10 ships per server capability before "fleet" activities can be considered. Two fleets need to be competitive/combative potential on one server before any single fleet formation is made easier. Imagine being one ship on a server as a single crew and having to fight 4-5 ships in a coordinated "fleet."

  • @kommodoreyenser that means it will not be possible until the developers consider attempting to increase server capacity

Relies mainly on streamlining current game modules and code. They also stated they can't really build the world any larger outward, hence the sunken kingdom areas and portals to separate sections for the Disney tall tales. I think we honestly are seeing the largest this world will ever be. If they remove events/items/additions, it could also help but that would just pull us backwards to 2018 which if you were around, know that is something no one would want.

  • @kommodoreyenser alright

  • @mincham39 It's not really even Insider facts/knowledge (Insiders cannot talk about anything on the test client due to NDA). Rather knowledge on server stability is something that Rare have discussed at length in past podcasts, updates, etc. In a general sense, we would need far better server hardware to achieve fleets as you describe, and while that would be incredibly cool to see, I don't know when/if that will happen. Until older generation hardware (older xbox ones) are phased out, upgrading server hardware isn't going to happen as far as I can see.

  • @kommodoreyenser I believe the portals will be utilized to transport us to alternate areas, and that's the most likely scenario in which we'd see new maps/areas. The sad reality is that until they get better servers, we won't see huge map expansions to our current map. That in of itself also won't happen until older generation consoles are phased out, which is still likely years away.

I think the issues are due to initially they didn't plan on adding as much as they have. The underlying foundation of the game probably wasn't made with enough modularity that they are now utilizing. The constant additions cause glitches and break parts of code, we see it nearly every month on the first week of releases. I am sure the physical/virtual server components are partly to blame but not fully, as they would of figured it out and fixed the issues by now if it was just that. Microsoft most likely would of done it around the Disney release since it was such a huge event and success.
