Couldn't yall just extend the closure to sometime during or at the end or beginning of summer? Like c'mon, I understand closing it but this is on EXTREMELY short notice, like literally last week me and my friend were planning on starting to finish all of commendations for arena, and we started to play arena a lot, and all of a sudden the next week we get news that it's closing, and not even that it's closing, but that we basically only have a MONTH to get as much as we can done, like c'mon, we need more notice than a month, but if no notice could yall at least find a way for all of the seadog items to be available to us? Like you could just keep the commendations but have them apply to adventure mode, like every time you kill someone it can count towards your seadog rank as well as towards the commendations, something like "kill 200 players with a pistol", could easily be changed to 300 or 400 people, make it harder but let the items and commendations still be attainable, so that's my bit on it, I know yall won't agree to it and probably won't consider it if you even happen to see this but please do, like either extending the closure date or letting everything still be attainable, please
Also a thing that yall could've done with arena is just make it into a battle royale, keep the chests for extra points, but give us the whole map, make it a closing shroud circle, battle to the death, if your ship sinks it doesn't respawn, and then yall could also have challenges that give you a ton of renown for the plunder pass, then everyone would enjoy it, no one wanted arena to leave, we all just wanted it to be a little better, it would be a whole new system but it's not too extreme of an idea
Announcing rewards based on a Sea Dog rank wit ha cutoff period BEFORE the announcement and offering zero way of obtaining them is absolutely ridiculous. The proper way of doing this would be to make an announcement with a reasonable cutoff period after that announcement so people can try and earn them if they want (like the rest of the arena cosmetics/titles).
Even if the period for the ship rewards was just a couple weeks it'd at least give people a heads up.
Instead, the cutoff period before an announcement is a slap to the face that informs me Rare has zero interest in being fair or considerate to the players. Why would I want to ever spend another penny when there's the possibility of such volatile nonsense?

Yes, you can still play The Arena, move up through the ranks, earn Commendations and unlock the ability to purchase cosmetics and Titles until we close this game mode on March 10th.
Let me just say this is crushing news after a long day at work. I have been playing this game since the beginning on and off, and i’m about to hit my 100 days played. It feels like the developers are putting less and less effort into catering to their fanbase. I understand they see the decline in players and are scrambling to fix what they can. But simply put this is not the answer. Personally it feels that they care more about getting new players into the game instead of pleasing the existing fanbase. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, and say that things will get better, but recently its been difficult to be so optimistic. Yes, i have had countless memorable experiences and laughs with my friends. I want to be positive, and i want to continue to enjoy the game, but i just cannot wrap my head around why such measures need to be taken. I hope to play out the lifespan of arena, because thats one of my favorite aspects of the game. Like i said i want to be optimistic, but i just can’t see myself playing this game much longer. If this is the direction this game is taking i can’t say i’ll be around much longer. However i am eternally grateful for the fond memories i will keep from this game. With that being said, i am a firm believer in second chances. Out of hope and maybe a touch of Naivety, i will give all the second chances. I see the potential in this game, i have since the first day i played. However as time goes by it becomes evermore apparent that potential will never be reached. If just one employee sits down and takes the time to read this, i would be extremely thankful. Unfortunately my instincts tell me that this message will not be seen and nothing will change. If my intuition is correct and things keep going the way they are, i cannot see myself staying with this game. As much as it saddens me to say, if this is what we can expect in the future, sea of thieves will not be in mine. It's not a reward your supposed to work for - it's a gift for those that wanted to play Arena. If you weren't motivated enough in the past to get to SD 50, then the good boy is not for you.

My opinion about the arena, it was an excellent way where you could have fun for 20 minutes, in adventure mode as soon as you get on the brig you don't even know what time you will return to port.
What would I have done (constructive opinion):1-Make the arena free, and pay for the adventure mode to attract players trying the game mechanics.
2-Put a ranked mode. Today in sea of thieves what differentiates a good player from a bad player in pvp are titles and cosmetics, which with a little more effort a bad player can get.
With a ranked mode there would be a real level to measure the players against.
With a ranked mode there would be no toxic reapers killing rookies doing talltales, or at least there would be less.
The good players would all be focused on this mode.
If enthusiastic in this mode there could be high level tournaments like other big electronic games, at this moment, there is no naval combat game as good as this one.3- My biggest idea: create special weekends: 1st of the month barrels in the water and islands with cursed balls. 2nd weekend powder in the water. . 4th weekend, storm in the arena. 3rd megs or skeleton ships can storm the arena. Almost all these ideas are not mine come out in the arena trailer..
That is to say, create special brawls. That way there would be more twisted days on Saturdays and Sundays, and days of that week you would have the traditional arena if you don't like it.
4- If you don't pay attention to your son, don't get mad because he is toxic or because only 2% like him.
I know that none of this works anymore, but I felt that I shouldn't keep it to myself..
To put words to my concerns regarding the way the announcement was handled.. I could definitely have gotten rank 50 and most of the commendations if I decided I wanted to bash my head against the slog that Arena became... Instead I chose to wait, in the hope Rare would fix it eventually. So now I feel punished for not playing the gamemode that Rare abandoned themselves.. Thanks Rare.
@realstyli and this makes it worse that people are complaining that they didn’t get a “thank you” for something they didn’t do. The entitlement is real.
I see every excuse in these comments for why people didn’t get level 50.
“I don’t have anyone to play with”. Welcome to the club. I open crewed and soloed my way to level 50 and LSD. They could have, too.
“Queue times are too long, otherwise I would have gotten it”. Everyone that has level 50 had the same queue times, but they didn’t let that stop them.
“If I had known there would be a reward, I would have played arena more”. And there you have it. That’s why they made the cutoff the way they did. I assume they don’t want to hand out exclusive sails to people who will only play if they know they’ll get those sails.
Personally I could care less if they extended it or gave a warning or grace period (despite how this sounds), but the sense of entitlement is unbelievable. I haven’t done the shrines yet because I don’t care about them. If rare shuts them off tomorrow and says they’ll give a rocket launcher to those who completed them, I’ll say “guess I should have tried them”, not “you need to give me more time to earn that rocket launcher”.
@wudadnoiz You can actually set up private servers that don't have any progress towards PVE. Although you have to be signed up as a creator, as it is an experimental feature currently.

No, it's gate keeping based on a completely arbitrary factor that Rare has 100% control over.Announcing the closure and allowing a bit of time before the cutoff period is the appropriate and fair thing to do. Not having a cutoff period before an announcement... all that does is totally screw over a LOT of people.
Rare loses exactly zero things by giving people a little time to get the ship cosmetics AND people still get rewarded for participating. What a concept.
Instead, they screw people over and apologists try to defend them. Excuse us for having lives, not prioritizing this over everything else because Arena was a supposedly permanent part of the game we had no time limit on. There was no expectation of expediency as no announcement was yet made, so people thought they could get to 50 on their own time. All this does is demonstrate Rare doesn't value us or our time. Why would I reward that by ever buying something? Or investing any more time into this? Or ever recommending this game to anyone else?
All they had to do was something as simple as tell us ahead of time and give a window. The literal least amount of effort needed.
@darthjryda09 It is true, but sadly, this decision is irreversible, and I just hope that someday, sea of thieves will bring back a better arena, one that more than 2% of the community enjoys. I am very sad to see it go, but I am hopeful for the future of this game. Maybe the Arena will be reincarnated as a completely separate game, and not just a separate mode.
Absolutely, the sense of entitlement is ridiculous. Also, they said that they would no longer be supporting Arena for a long time--and while it's not the same thing as saying its being taken down--anyone could read the signs on the walls.
Everyone still has an opportunity to get the original cosmetics until March 10th, and while that's a hell of a grind IMO, it's still an opportunity for those who really want it.
And like you said, if someone were to take away Shrines or A Pirates Life tomorrow, as well as all the cosmetics with it, I wouldn't care either, because wearing those cosmetics isn't a representation of what I enjoy in the game, and not a representation of my pirate.

I just want to say that I love The Good Boy and always wanted it to be a playable cosmetic in Adventure. I am level 42 in Sea Dogs and I think it would be fair if the community was notified Arena was closing, hit 50 by 3/10 and get The Good Boy cosmetics. To just be told I am a day late and 8 reputation levels short is galling.
I would also like to suggest the Sea Dog chest be added to Adventure, put an NPC at the bottom of Sea Dog by the dock and add Sea Dog as an emissary similar to Reaper. Destroy the Sea Dog Tavern and explain that Sea Dogs are on its last legs due to the actions of the Reapers Bones faction, so they need pirates to go out and make coin under the flag of Sea Dogs. You get double the emissary for selling Reaper flags and anything stolen from a Reaper. That would be a cool way to keep the pvp tradition in the game. Annnnnnd then there would be a ton of ppl raising Sea Dog to do pve and run to the red sea lol.
omg, i was literally one win away from Sea Dog 50! Are you kidding me! cmon guys, you should have make it possible at least for few days for players to reach their target they wasted so many hours in! I totally get your decision on closing it but guys, this is just not cool! really, you did not do right here.
Arena is still playable until March 10th, Commendations, Titles and Weapons are still achievable.
Everyone who has already reached or passed Sea Dogs rank 5 will be rewarded with the following Arena ship cosmetics to use in Adventure mode:
- The Azure Scout
- The Flaming Jackal
- The Golden Chaser
- The Lucky Rover
- The Regal Hound
Those super-dedicated Arena players who have already reached Sea Dogs rank 50 will receive The Good Boy ship cosmetics as a rare bonus in addition to the sets listed above.
All six of these cosmetic sets consist of four items: hull, figurehead, sails and flag.
The cutoff point for being eligible for these rewards was today, January 27th at 6pm UK time. Rewards will be distributed after the closure of The Arena on March 10th.

Rn i'm at 79/240 victory, that means 4 top1 everyday until March 10th... I don't have that much free time
Maybe there is a hope if they see how hard it is to have some commandations for new arena player and let it live for another Season?
