Secondary Interact and Swap Weapons on Controller

  • Currently these 2 settings are forced to be on the same button. This leads to situations where controller players cannot swap weapons around items that have a secondary interact. These items range from storage crates, rowboats, loaded cannons, treasure chests, npc’s, cargo crates, vault keys, and players that can be revived. This can be incredibly frustrating, especially when boarding crews that have placed storage crates around their boat for quick supplies. What makes this even more frustrating is when you are fighting mouse and keyboard players who have no issues around these items. All that it would take is the ability to separate them, you could even make it an optional setting so that those who don’t want to change anything don’t have to. It’s nothing but an infuriating experience to die because you apparently wanted to pull a cannonball out of a cannon instead of pulling out a sword to block, or a gun to kill someone. Even worse is the storage crates since they completely stop you in your tracks nothing you can do. Even if you aren’t looking at these items they can still be interacted with.

  • The difference between m/k & controller is that controller is very focused on you and your immersion in the game that you're playing, but reveals to be awful to play in pvp, some people simply learn how to cope with that and are actually better at controller. For m/k it's based on efficiency and immersion can go to bed.
That's the big dilema with things and if it makes you feel any better it's possible to use m/k on Xbox.

  • Just 1 of the many reasons why I almost exclusively set sail on Xbox with Controllers Only.

Us PC users, even using a game pad, don't have that choice.

  • Amen to this. I would most certainly bind secondary interact to a D-pad button if I was able.

There are m/k crews that strategically place items with secondary interact all over their ship in case they're boarded by a controller player...literally disabling their ability to change weapons.

I'm shocked Rare hasn't allowed secondary interact to be decoupled from weapon switch yet.

  • @beav7567 ive been venting and asking for this change for a while and I've been completely ignored.

Hope you have better luck and this leads to some actual changes.

    You have my upvote..

  • Yeah, I play on PC but use a controller, and I have similar issues, especially with my one crewmate who loves to have storage crates littered across the deck. Still, you get used to it, and you learn to appreciate things like jumping up on the siderails of a ship to be able to switch easily and dodge at the same time

  • Word to the wise.

People will place crates in the way for when you board so that you have issues swapping weapons. Use everything to your advantage.

    Exactly. Get an Xbox. 😉

That's what the double-gun exploiters would say... 🙄

  • @galactic-geek I don't DG except rarely against PvE. But I will use crates on my boat to stop 'em.

    Yar har

I think it's too cheap and 1-sided. There really isn't a counter for it, and that's where I take issue with it.

  • @galactic-geek Yup.

Easy fix for us controllers. (Sometimes). Go Xbox only lobbies.

  • Strikes me as a reasonable and valid request. Hope it makes it in as an Accessibility/QoL kind of thing since that has been a bit more of a focus as of late.

  • @burnbacon Xbox only lobbies have the same issue

  • It should be as simple as making them two seperate binds. Please consider this quality of life change, Rare. It would greatly please a lot of players.
