Water does not render on time - Recent bug 🌊

  • For a moment, when you are climbing the stairs of the ships, the water does not exist. This happens on all types of ships.
(checked on different PC specs, all of them with SSD M.2 and graphics on mythical)

Hah, quite funny! You can actually see another island/rock in the distance before the water appears and cover it. xD

  • @quietrobot Do you have a SSD? If not, then that's your answer. If yes, then 🤷‍♂️.

  • HMMMMMM this has never happened to me either your pc software is not good enough or the environment is not suited for a pc (my answer could be completely wrong i am not a computer geek i dont even know how to check the specs of a pc KEKW)

  • @quietrobot I also noticed this. You can actually stand about halfway down the stairs and the water won't render at all. You can see shipwrecks, the submerged parts of islands, etc. It doesn't seem to be a question of loading textures, since you can keep the game in that state indefinitely.

  • Maybe they adjusted the occlusion boxes on the ships? The game won't render things you can't see in order to increase performance, and this is exactly what it looks like when you find an edge case where you should be able to see something but the game thinks you shouldn't.

Usually this happens in games when you're inside a building and looking out a door or window.

  • @galactic-geek yep, I have an SSD, I was not left alone with my experience, I checked it with other players and PC configurations (Nvidia / AMD).

But please, if you can, check for yourself. this did not happen in the last update.

This is something that did not happen before, perhaps you have not paid much attention to it.

My PC specs? i7-8700, 32gb RAM, RTX 2060.

  • I'm running Sea of Thieves at 1440p with all settings max on an NVMe SSD and haven't experienced this issue myself. You might want to submit a bug report. My specs: AMD Ryzen 5 3600x, RTX 2070 Super, 16GB DDR4 3800Mhz RAM.

  • @atherza 100% sure it's not about the system you play on.
Everyone I've talked to they have it. People on Console and PC both have it.
You just have to be on the right position and you'll see everything.

It works best on Brig and Gal.

  • @jumli7 Ahh Yeah I don't play on a galleon much anymore and just experienced it then. I'm presuming its just a way of keeping resources down then, but still is a bit annoying.

  • @jumli7 also on consoles? thanks for the info.

  • There's a similar bug where water isn't rendering inside the ship's hull while it's sinking. We've had to postpone NAL as a result in the hope that it's fixed soon. Rare messed up some big stuff with the latest update.

  • @comrade-molly Also when bucketing the invisible water the bucket does not appear to have water in it.

  • Not able to replicate this on my PC.

  • @walperr It does seem to be a global issue, if you stand around half way down the stairs on a galleon, then do an emote such as "Point" you should see that the water is not rendered.

  • @quietrobot i notice really small details plus as someone else said it happens mainly on brig and gal neither of which i play often and i run at max settings. it could be the recent updates happening that glitched it, but as i said before i could be completely wrong idk but what i said is my best guess

  • i managed to see this (just) on a sloop on a pc. if you walk backwards down to the galley, looking out the back where the rowboat is usually tied up. if you go slowly, just before the water is out of view (if the waves are behaving right) the water disappears just before it would be out of sight.

as someone mentioned it's likely bounding boxes not rendering what shouldn't be visible (and saving a bit of GPU/CPU time). maybe the models were tweaked recently?

  • @quixoticrocket At least I started to notice this in the last update (and previously in Insider).
I think it's not just the water, but also effects (like the ash in Devil Roar) and lighting. Yes, it is surely a way to save memory, but it should not be visible to the player.

  • @snowtheheat This is the first time I noticed it, but it was not the only bug that came with this update. Global illumination sometimes changes from frame to frame, or the health regeneration circle does not show its charge.
