Quick Query About Possible Exploit And How To Approach It.

  • Hello,
I'm not one to accuse anyone of cheating lightly, I've been around a while and hit max rank in all factions and this is the first post I've made here on the website and first time I've questioned someone.

Is there anyone that has been subject to, or perhaps an exploit they know of, which allows a player who was on board your ship for mere moments, to steal 100+ cannonballs and 20+ chain-shot.

It was a PvP encounter, we were on a Sloop, we had chased down a level 4 Reaper Galleon into a storm and had the final showdown there, we won but as we were harpooning their treasure, one player managed to board, was spotted instantly. He hopped over a blunder shot, I probably missed, he went straight to our top cannon ball barrel, was there for seconds, motionless, eating blunder shot and sword swings, he then hops off the boat himself and mermaids. Our entire supply of cannonballs and chain, WAY more than one person can carry was gone. Empty barrel.

Has this been encountered before? Not only was he not taking the damage (Maybe lag) but stole all our cannonball supply, which was 100+ cannonballs and 20+ chain. I know as I was the one doing the shooting.

I have the players name, but the encounter was over so quickly I did not have time to take a recording with the Xbox app shortcut. Do I even bother submitting a report if I have no evidence?

    Thank you, Core

  • I’ve never seen anything like that and I’d say I’ve been playing for a while. Cheaters are honestly very rare in sea of thieves, although that isn’t to say they don’t exist. Although I haven’t seen anything like that, anything’s possible with hack clients. I’d say try reporting the name to rare and Microsoft, it can’t hurt. They’ll also know if you’re making it up based on their past behavior

  • @lbs-coredeath Yes, as we write this someone in my crew on arena is naked and i can grab an endless amount of supplies without running out of space.
But he cant attack or anything, ive seen it before its a glitch.

  • I always give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to SOT weirdness. I'm not someone that reports people in general but even with accusations and assumptions I just assume that it is probably some sort of lag or server issue glitch/bug and/or something I didn't see that prevented me from seeing something that would make it make sense

I see bugs and glitches and weird server things most times I play so that is way more common than anything that could be considered cheating.

A large majority of encounters players are consistent in their play meaning it's skill not cheating.

For your specific case it could be something you didn't see. A storage crate? someone that did it that you didn't realize was there? maybe you had less than you thought? I've seen pretty much everything at this point so I'd for sure lean in the direction of you missing something rather than them using some sort of barrel empty cheat.

Cheating exists in everything but I've never seen much proof of it impacting this game significantly or even frequently.

You can report it but I wouldn't throw a person's name in any sort of report tool unless I was pretty dang sure they had done something wrong

@FaceYourDemon is right. I've seen this glitch 3 times recently between me and my friend. You have no weapons or equipment but you have bottomless pockets. When I had this happen in arena, I grabbed a stack of our cannonballs and unloaded into some ships. Mostly it's a hindrance. You can't defend yourself and you can't use your bucket. Usually people will end up in a worse situation because of it. However if you know what you're doing, you can use it to your advantage while you're on that life. Taking another crew's supplies is a perfect example.

  • @testakleze At the beggining he took everything from our ship so weve decided to even the situation by using it against the enemies.
Emptied their ships left them with their pants down.

  • There use to be a bug where you could empty out entire islands into your inventory but I believe it was fixed years ago

  • I have personally had this glitch after being revived after spawning onto a new ship with no health and being downed.
After a crewmate revived me i went to grab cannonballs and they were not depleting on my screen. i was just spamming assuming it was lag until i re-opened the barrel and it was completely empty. nothing in my inventory either.

  • @wolfmanbush Cheers mate, I've not missed anything, was too short, we had our fight, we sank them, no storage crate or anything. But from what a few other people has said it's probably a glitch. I wont report this player.

  • @testakleze Makes sense I guess =) If a few others have said the same thing it was probably that, I've never encountered this bug myself and I've been playing a really long time xD

I wont report this player, I did message them about it asking how he did it but never received a reply.

    Thread closed I guess!
