Reapers tracking ability: Fine or OP?

  • I’m just curious as to the census of players. As we know, high level reapers cans we other emissaries on the map. My question is, do you think this is fair or not?

I see both sides. It does take away the skill of tracking your prey, but also helps identify if there are even other emissaries.

  • Bear in mind you have to get to Emissary rank 5 of Reapers Bones before emissary ships become visible to you. In the absence of a high-reward event or nearby emissary ships, that’ll take a very long time.

  • @grilledcheese10 I think it should be awarded sooner honestly, maybe even at level one but should be more like the wild rose tall tale compass which points to the nearest ship, maybe with the ability to toggle between ships. Right now it feels fine, but just kinda silly to have the PVP faction grind to get it's pvp ability.

  • @grilledcheese10

Absent a viable alternative to finding and hunting Emmisary ship i think it's good enough. There needs to be a reward for reaching grade 5 reaper that is PvP oriented. Besides the point of the emmisary is to willing offer your ship up as a PvP target. Specificaly a target to sink not the same a mark for a hiest. Seeing also how Reaper start with a mark on everyone map i don't see why people would complian.

If the tracking of the reaper is OP that would also imply that the reaper marked on the map is a serious nerf. As they are spotted and tracked by everyone including non emmisaries where as Reapers can only track emmissary and only while at grade 5. Other Emissary get to keep there reward after lowing there flag while reaper have to keep there flag up to hunt.

I would argue Reapers need a buff as the reward is not worth the risk. Rather then there reward for grade 5 bieng OP .

  • It's fine leave it alone.

Can't find an emissary? Well duh. We see you and aren't going to give you diddly.

I think adventure should matchmake based on playstyle. All the pvp focused pirates get shuffled together, while more peaceful pirates get put into different servers. Balanced players somewhere in between. Obviously you could still end up a peaceful pirate on a combat server, and much to the pvp's delight on a server full of victims.

  • It seems pretty well balanced. I don't think it needs a buff or a nerf.

Even if you can see all the Emissaries, unless there's only one or you get near them, you can't really tell who they are repping (you can deduce it in some cases but not 100% just looking at the map) and you can't tell what grade they are.

There's also a lot of Reaper Hunters out there, so it's a bigger risk even trying to get to Grade 5 when everyone can see your progress and where you are.

  • It's fine.

  • What i 'd like to see is Grade V hides the Reaper.
Much better Reward than to see other emissarys.

Also it makes way more sense to then try to stop Reapers to get to Grade V.
So a Police and Thieves Game can happen.

Tbh i only have Reapers to level.
If solo i refuse the Bonus and dont reveal myself on the Map because what i do is trying to steal stuff unnoticed or quick hide and run.

With a crew at minimum a duo sloop we go fight all kind of ships and hoist a Reaper emissary flag.

The problem if it ever is one is, people who see a Reaper V on the server, tend to sell and vote their emissary down and new ships hop servers.

It makes zero sense for a PvP faction to be exposed on the map.
It's ok if a growing thread is visible, you then can fight it.
The Reward should be to become invisible on the Map when Grade V.
I would happily exchange this for beeing able to see other emissary ships on the Map, it's not that much helpfull tbh.

I once suggested to match crew / players based on
    Player K/D
    On Hits/Misses
    And on sinks/ got sunk

People who kill more players get matched with players who do so also.
People who hit more often than they miss a shot or slash get matched with players of similar skill.
People who sink more ships than to get sunk by others the same.

For crews Rare can do an average of that crew.

It takes away the shared world and socialisation aspects, but tbh this we can see doesnt work at all.

But SBMM also doesnt work because of join a crew etc.

The problem I see with averaging crews is if I have friends then what I'd do is one would designate themselves as a spoiler and lose solo fights and miss every shot.

Then you can add him to your team to smurf noobs.

  • @idneon yip, i thought that later too - there is nothing Rare can do except make the game not appealing to jerks!

  • @idneon hehe - some crews for sure did underestimate us/me ;)

we hunt actice and yesterday we had to defend an Ashen Wind 2 times versus a brigantine that wasnt too bad, but to bad to prevent us finishing and selling :)
