Does the Steam version have a traditional EXE file which is run?

  • I have keyboard and mouse profiles which change depending on which EXE is being run. With the way Windows Store works, it doesn't have a EXE file, but does the Steam version?
I would buy it again so I dont have to manually change my mouse and keyboard settings every time I play the game

  • Both versions have an EXE. The windows store one is located in your install drive under WindowsApps/Microsoft.SeaOfThieves_{VERSION INFO HERE}/Athena/Binaries/UWP64/SoTGame.exe

The Steam version is under your steam library folder in steamapps/common/Sea of Thieves/Athena/Binaries/Win64/SoTGame.exe

Yeah, but the way it's executed in the system is somewhat different than a Win32 app so the M&K app and/or drives might not be able to detect it.

Regarding the OP @StRoRo, yes, the Steam version is a regular Win32 app.

I've managed to associate the applications to the SoT.exe from windows store installation but it doesn't work still. As I understand it, it doesn't actually load that file from that location when you play the game thats why it doesn't work. I just find it very annoying. :(

I'll put the steam version on alert so I get a notification when its on sale.

If you're to link to an EXE, try this, press Win+R and in the run dialog type:

    Shell:AppsFolder

    Press OK.

From the applications folder it opens, find the Sea of Thieves .EXE, right-click and Create Shortcut. It will ask if you want to put it on the desktop - do that. And then move it from the desktop to a more convenient location, which you then link to in your application.

I've had to use this workaround for a lot of MS Store apps I want to launch from Stream Deck.

Oh how I wish that worked for me. I did as you said but the iCue and Logitech software can't map to short cuts. :(
    PITA!

    Thanks for your suggestion.
