@nabberwar while it may be "voluntary" a portion of the community should not be strongarmed into having to ignore or miss out on content meant for everyone in the game to enjoy. Sloops and solos should not have to ignore and actively avoid content just so they dont get verbally abused. I understand and support pvp. Its fun. However a t5 reapers being able to see u whenever just isnt fun for sloops. Were seen as easy prey and often times we are. When it comes to me im typically teaching others the game, introducing others, or just looking for a good time. And pvp can be fun but not when that ship u sank can just book it back to u, harrass u, and attack till u sink
This update destroyed the game
I humbly disagree. I've been playing solo since Day 01, and even though this update introduced a trading company that I have a literal bone to pick with (no pun intended), I've found ways to maximize profit despite their presence.
For Merchant Alliance, once you hit Emissary Grade 05, instead of doing the Emissary Voyage go for delivering Golden Animals. Animals are way less of a hassle compared to 25 peices of cargo. Also, they pay out more gold & reputation in the same timeframe than that one voyage.
I personally got and turned in Athena Emissary Grade 05 yesterday solo, and I had to deal with 3 Reapers Ships on the map. All in all, I wish you the best of luck on your adventures.@okamivan
@nabberwar while it may be "voluntary" a portion of the community should not be strongarmed into having to ignore or miss out on content meant for everyone in the game to enjoy.
Except the content isn't "new" so to speak its the same content as before except with a opt in feature of getting a loot multiplier by voluntarily agreeing to be targeted. It still remains the same voyages as before. There is no new content so to speak. You can essentially play the game in the same sense as before
You miss out on nothing by choosing not to become an Emissary if you don't enjoy that type of gameplay. Risk Vs. Reward, if you aren't willing to risk being targeted, you don't get the multiplier. Its that simple.
However a t5 reapers being able to see u whenever just isnt fun for sloops.
If and only if you voluteer to become an Emissary. If you don't find it fun don't do it. I hate fishing in this game, do you want to guess what I don't do?
And pvp can be fun but not when that ship u sank can just book it back to u, harrass u, and attack till u sink
This is in no way related to Emissaries, you could do that at any point prior to this patch. This "problem" isn't relevant to the topic at hand.
@nabberwar except there is new content. By being forced out of things we miss out on commendations and cosmetics
@okamivan
@nabberwar except there is new content. By being forced out of things we miss out on commendations and cosmetics
I don't see it being forced out of anything, when you yourself don't find it appealing to begin with. You aren't being forced, you are voluntarily choosing not to do it. I am not forced out of fishing just because I find it dull and unappealing. All Emissaries is, is a tool to enter a gauntlet, if you don't like the gauntlet, you don't like Emissaries.
When it comes to your comment on missing out on Cosmetics and Commendations, I don't have sympathy. Cosmetics are purely optional, they bring nothing new to the table besides making your model look nifty. If you are unwilling to put any effort in unlocking, you don't deserve them. Your unwillingness to put in work shouldn't be catered to. Just because you may want them doesn't mean you deserve them, that is kind of childish.
@nabberwar i work for everything i have gotten in this game. I just refuse to subject myself to harrassment and toxicity and frustration by joining randoms. Ive spent hours upon tedious hours trying to do emissaries. What i am saying is that it is next to impossible for a solo. I wont say im the best at the game cause im not. But im not the worst either. I can typically fend off attacks. But its impossible when they can just find u
@okamivan
If you are unwilling to accept the risks, you don't get the reward. The multiplier reaches up to 2.5x so getting loot at that rate without adding any risks in return is ludicrous and rather stupid.Rather than coming here and whining, what do you propose? They have already made it voluntary, so Reaper's can't track you if you don't want to be. Do you just want a free multiplier with no risks?
Agree agree agree!!!!! Well said and it’s spot on. I will def take a break for a bit until something is changed.
The ocean is huge. There would be days when you don’t see anyone.
Idk. Just sucks I cant personally enjoy all the game had without having anxiety constantly. Just not the game for me anymore and that’s fine.
@okamivan
I highly disagree, Reaper's are marked regardless of you being an Emissary. You can spot them everywhere. It isn't til they reach peak Grade 5 do they actually see people, until then they can't find you, unless they can visually see you. That is a free multiplier for that entire time til they get to that Rank. You are otherwise doing voyages that are not in anyway more difficult. It isn't like the Devil's Roar where their is environmental risks at least.Nothing stops you uniting with other Emissaries and ganging up on a Pre-Grade 5 Reapers. Sinking them resets their Grade, causing them a giant setback. You seem to have the inability to adapt to your surroundings.

Ship Alliance/ 2 Ship/3 Ship/4 Ship/5 Ship/6 Ship
Grade 1 (1.25) / .625 / 1.25 / 1.875 / 2.50 /3.125
Grade 2 (1.50) / .75 / 1.50 / 2.25 / 3.00 / 3.75
Grade 3 (1.75) / .875 / 1.75 / 2.625 / 3.50 / 4.375
Grade 4 (2.00) / 1.00 / 2.00 / 3.00 / 4.00 / 5.00
Grade 5 (2.50) / 1.25 / 2.50 / 3.75 / 5.00 / 6.25This is a numbers breakdown on the percentages one can make off with the use of combining Alliances and Emissaries. Teamwork is extremely rewarding. At each Grade of Emissary what you turn in everyone in Alliances gets half. So an example would be if you are a Grade 5 Emissary, every item you turn in that other ship in your 2 person Alliance gets loot 1.25x the original value of that item. The numbers get massive the more ships that come in. I could go on, but working together is more so profitable then before.
I have only seen this posted by you, not saying it isn't true or anything; but has this been proven or laid out in the release notes somewhere that I may have missed?
Everything I have read has lead me to believe that Allainces do not gain any benefits from other Emissaries in the Alliance, which would leave them with 50% of the original value as it has always been.
@sorenthaz said in This update destroyed the game:
That's nice and all except you still earn Reaper's rep without needing to use their Emissary flag and you still benefit from sinking non-Emissary ships and stealing their loot.
That has always been the case. We have always been rewarded for stealing treasure from one another. But no, you are still not rewarded for just sinking non-emissary ships. A friend and I tried out a few aspects of the emissary system. We found that it was more beneficial to go after the emissary ships. The ones without the flag and without treasure were not worth the time. This is just like it was before the update. Players may go around and sink other ships for zero apparent rewards (BTW, always was a legitimate choice), but with no flag or treasure there is no extrinsic reward for doing so.
Emissary ships are juicier targets, obviously, but nothing stops someone from still chasing after a non-Emissary ship to sink them.
Just like before the update. It has always been a legitimate player choice to do so. Nothing in the new system encourages it either. There is no reward for just sinking a non-emissary ship unless they have something to turn in.
All this does is encourage PvP to become more commonplace since there are now rewards for it.
If the other crew is participating in the emissary system, yes. Otherwise, nothing changed from before. No loot = no reward.
This isn't some magical "optional" thing. Non-Reaper's players are now content for anyone who wants Reaper's Rep voyage, and there's nothing that changes that outside of maybe seeking out an Alliance server. The only "option" had here is whether or not you want to be a more obvious target or not.
Again, you have always had the choice to make yourself a target or not. If you know how to keep your ship safe and watch the horizon (and now the map) then you will be just fine.
"jUsT dOnT PaRtIcIpAtE" means to not play the game whatsoever because simply existing as another ship on the ocean is reason enough to be chased down, regardless of whether or not you use an Emissary flag. Sloops will be easy targets at this point so why not chase them down if you don't see an Emissary nearby?
Oh please! The sloop is arguably the best ship in the game, and I play half the time as a solo player. Anyone who categorizes sloops as weak and helpless has no real experience with it. Last night I started out with the Merchant Alliance flag, then changed to the Athena emissary flag to run through an entire Athena voyage WITH ZERO PROBLEMS. Anyone who has played the game with me can attest that I am, at best, an average player on a good day. Your responses indicate you may have some misunderstandings about the mechanics of the system and a distorted view of what is actually going on out there on the sea.
It's Sea of Thieves after all, not Sea of Honor
That's true. Nothing is stopping players from polishing their halos as they deliver golden chickens, but it was not the intent of the game. The game tricks us into caring about our loot because we invest time into acquiring it. That way the treasure has meaning to us when we are fighting to protect/steal it.
@shuoink You can literally see where the Reapers guys are, just move to avoid them or get good at the game to fight back.
I also think this update has mostly negative aspects, but these are the most wrong reason to talk about.
I mostly play solo in adventure, I've completed multiple grade 5 merchant's voyages on my own. You guys need to realise that if you lose to a galleon it just means you didn't pay attention. First of all: reapers can see you on the map, that's true, but you can also see them, the only way a reaper galleon gets you is because you are not paying enough attention, that has nothing to do with the update. Also, if you don't want to fight a Galleon after you saw it just sail against the wind, Galleons are way slower than the sloop against the wind.
@archangel-timmy
It was a Reddit post, so nothing concrete, but I was under the impression Alliance loot only effects leader-boards not necessarily gold and rep gains.After my time with this update I can say a few things. First, the update definitely does not favor sloops at all, putting them at a further disadvantage (which I guess is the point of them but still). It doesn't matter if you are in an emissary or not, you will still get hunted. And in my experience, using the wind advantage really only gets you so far before you have to turn and a half way decent crew on a brig or gali will crosswind you and decimate.
Gali's are essentially the way now with the revive system. And that kinda sucks because it sort of ostracizes any one to two man parties. When you know no matter how good you are at pvp that you're gonna get wrecked by a gali (or brig in some cases) what's the point of the fight?
I'm not saying this update destroyed the game, but the balance is definitely tipped. And not in a good way. I love the game, but hopefully some actions are taken to even out the field for the little guy, whatever those may be.
To be fair, I have no issue with emissaries themselves and understand it's high risk high reward but saying 'just don't do it then' is a really idiotic response to new content, (and yes essentially it is new content, just hashed over old). In short, not mad I've been sunk several times. Mad I could never put up a fight against it due to the odds being shifted far out of favor.

i took on a brig the other day full of pirate legends on a sloop they couldn't ress cuz i was pounding them with cannonfire they ultimately sunk

the revive takes ages to do while i hate the revive system not because of the advantages or disadvantages but because i think a revive mechanic has no place in a game like sea of thieves whatsoever
@xo-hunters
This update would have been great for solo sloops without revive mulligan and the GPS tracking. They should have left the result of losing PvP alone while only allowing the new faction the benefit of knowing that emissary ships are the best targets. A spyglass did the trick before but now when there are obvious visual clues that one has found a worthy target of piracy Rare has decided that players needed GPS too. Basically Rare gave crews a crutch with the revive perk while at the same time giving them the benefit of not having to search for targets.@winter-fritz44 My crew got to lvl. 5 RB emmisary last night and were overwhelmed with options and were ultimately defeated because we took too long figuring out what we wanted to do. Do we attack the ship in the DR which probably has more loot? Do we ambush the ship with the Reaper's Bounty that's at an outpost when they inevitably figure out they have to go to the Reaper's Hideout, where we'll be waiting for them? Do we wait until they hit level 5 to capitalize on their loot? Do we turn in what we have and then attack, or take advantage of a possible opportunity? And so on...
For the record, as a RBE, it's okay if other ships leave the server because that just leads to a server merge and more ships for us to hunt.
These kinds of complaints is always hard to talk about due to the different skills of players... I was able to destroy two Galleons in a 4v1v4 fight. Was fun and chaotic. Didn't die at all. I even won many normal 1v3 and 1v4 fights just fine. However, sometimes I can't barely win or not at all win a 1v2 fight because the enemy pirates are of near equal skill or higher and thus I can only take them on in 1v1s...
What I am saying is that every session is going to be different and you will find that at times, you can fight and win against ships which has higher advantages but lower skill than you.
@rikology
It would have been great if the crowd needing the revive mulligan when they lose had stuck to candy crush. The developer might have focused more on appeasing consumers who wanted a better PvPvE experience.@jusey1z
The.problem is that I do win against against numbers with a lower skill level. I lost plenty of times too but never complained about it. The risk of going to the ferry and having to wait to respawn while your ship is taking damage was what made the PvP worthwhile. Now that risk is gone for the lower skill crews that were otherwise losing to solo players. Nerfing solo players and offering a leg up for lower skill level crews was a move in the wrong direction for the game. Revive doesn't belong in this game at all.@god-ryuuske
What I wrote about the final straw PvP with a three man crew defines what is wrong with the revive system. I had outmaneuvered them well enough to blast their hull and clean their deck with cannons. Instead of going to the ferry they just kept getting revived. As a result I eventually got sunk and had to deal with the same defeated crew reviving eachother on the water while I tried to get their rowboat and their loot. I essentially lost because I ran out of ammo while killing crew members I had already killed.They were the sort of low skill big time trash talkers the developer intentionally bends over backward for. They got my ethnicity wrong with their racial slurs and taunts and they sure felt like highly skilled kings when they finally got me after a billion revives.
I loved this game before Rare handed it to casual players with little or no ability. Now there really isnt ant point of playing it. After the the three man crew incident I just grinded PvE and immediately surrendered to any crew that could catch me with no resistance whatsoever. That got intensely boring real fast so I just stopped signing on at all.
Imagine how great this new content would have been with out the revive perk.

@ghostpaw I got a good laugh out of that. I do think Rare needs to fix that bug asap.
I have scuttled my ship to test this and my flag remains floating to be picked up. Maybe there are more parameters to the bug if it is happening. Weird.
Well, i started game not long ago but i have noticed something. 4 in 5 games when i put emissary flag (solo). Im getting sinked by reapers. Many times after looting for hours. (is that painful? ofc) And comments like jUsT dOnT uSe EmIsSaRy are nonsense. Because you lossing so much anyways. Just would like to see some servers without reapers fraction because pvp is meh in sot.
