I remember when all this was sepia... Gamechat only servers... Adventure Mode...

  • Olde Waki don't want sound like one o' them 'in the olden days' hoary olde sea goats, however, in the olden days we used to come across loads of pirates from all over the known world, jibber jabbering in their own languages or ones we roughly shared.

Nowadays, tis only crews of mute party chatters who neither hear nor speak to Olde Waki and 'is crew, whether we be swashbuckling, or singing a shanty to them. Tis dampening the enjoyment of me favourite game. It's not like the olden days, tis becoming impossible to make new friends or cast new foes in the foundry of me soul.

I'd like to hear and speak to the scurvy dogs, even if they be yelling how's they's going to kill me and fry me barnacles on a spit.

Can we have gamechat only servers perchance?

Would make an Olde Waki very happy...

  • I admire people who can talk about themselves in the third person.

  • Olde Waki agrees, sir!

  • @olde-waki my crew uses a crew only chat, and only occasionally talks to our victi....er, fellow seafarers. But we would be more willing to use gamechat if we knew everyone else had to as well. At tje moment we are kind of stuck at being forced to party chat unless we want the other crew to learn what we are doing without being able to overhear them as well.

You do remind me of one of our favorite stories. It was during the hungering deep when you had to have at least 2 crews to summon the original meg. My crew was at shipwreck bay starting the first part of the mission when another galleon pulled up and anchored in front of us. They boarded, which we allowed, and both crews stood around our deck. They jabbed at us in what I believe was Russian, we babbled at them in what I think was English, and then there was a tense standoff as we realized no one knew what was going on. Eventually they attempted to sail our ship off and the whole thing ended in gunfire, blood, and steel. Not what either crew wanted but a fun experience anyway.

  • @william-flint, sir, this be exactly the type of incidents Olde Waki be referring to, they are vanished now and tis just a sea of bloody Marcel Marceaus in pirate hats.

Olde Waki would 100% only sail in gamechat only seas, the life of the game is the people, and the people aren't speaking no more.

The people haven't spoken, if you will...

  • @olde-waki I'm sold. I shall try to convince my crew to turn push to talk off, and more coordinated tactics be damned. And I shall never again board over an enemies side without screaming out "you fight like a dairy farmer" or "I once owned a dog that was smarter than you".

  • @william-flint That's the spirit, Flinty, sir!

  • To give another example, last night me and me first mate, Titan Murph (of yetube fame,) were sailin' the seas and were giving some of these mute pirates the benefits of our wherewithals on the Ferry o' the damned.

Nows, instead of talking to us cartoon pirate to cartoon pirate, they's tried to invite Olde Waki to them's there party chat, likes Waki's some grubby little peeping-tom who likes to hide in a cupboard of anyone's choosings.

"No!" says Olde Waki. I turned on me heels and left, leaving behind an air of indignation tinged, a little, with the faint odour of three day olde sardines, what I keeps about me person for the purposes of sustenance in these trying times.

Pirates should be in the open air, not taking to the seas in a wardrobe.

Ye wouldn't want to be stuck with me in a wardrobe.

  • I guess you never got grieved and had someone spam rick rolled into the mic or play some other obnoxious youtube meme as you sink and die.

  • @th0ak but they can do that whether you are in group chat or not.

  • @th0ak OldeWaki's had some numbnut playing gangster rap full blast, when I'd rather have had a gangster shanty or two; the odd toad is still preferable to a shower of silent pirates, scurrying around like Santa's little elves...

  • From time to time, my voice to text feature will pick up voices from a distance that I can't hear. Makes for great ambush and intel gathering opportunities.

  • @olde-waki
You are absolutely 200 percent right , Sir...i remember days that i got startled when i was digging a chest and heard voices coming closer , or when i was shivering in my timber when i was hiding in the bushes with a stolen chest in my hands ...Oooh , if you could measure the density of that kind of adrenaline...That could blow up the measurement tool...

But...times are changing...Is it because so many trolls or toxic comments that have made Pirates silent , so they seek refuge in the more safe Speakingchannels like Partychat or DiscordChat? i don't know , but what i do know is the we too, get involved with Pirates that never talk back ot answer you with a voice...

Rare has done so much effort into making this Proximity Chat realistic , and now it falls all in water...Aye , Rare has indeed made emoticons for the Tony Tuckers amongst us , but that doesn't mean you can't use gamechat anymore , just be silent and be " in " the game ,just like the other Pirates you are tucking on...

This was one of the very few games where communication was very important , for the crew and for the adventure but since the game turns more into an achievement ,accomodations game , Pirates are more gathering in seperate channels to get their "job" done...

So many Pirates have forgotten that speaking , or unintentedly warning others of yer presence is part of the game and was part of the Pirateworld back in the days...

To be honest , the many occasions that we meet Pirates and we "seem to talk to ourselves " really dampens the spirits in a way that i sometimes play a different game. A single player adventure where i'm at least certain that i will hear a voice even if it's a scripted one....At least it's better as complete silence...

Silence is a killer in many forms , i hope that your Topic is read by Rare ,because seperate channels are truely bringing the mood for adventure down...

  • @clumsy-george

Aye! You're right sir, the silence is a killer.

Olde Waki wants seas alive with the babble of folk like they were back yonder.

I'm not saying these silent pirates can't play their way, in their kitchen cabinets, but surely it's not beyond the ken of our beloved developers to give over the odd server to those who enjoyed interacting with other pirates, who fell in love with the chance meetings these fickle seas gave us. If ye wanted to sail in it with yer mic muted, there's nothing wrong with that.

However, Olde Waki has made some solid friendships and a fair few cast-iron enemies from these days of yaddi yore and tis sad to see a magical worlde suffocated in silence, teeming with voiceless wraiths who can neither hear nor reply.

Brings a tear to me brine-beaten eye, it really does.

  • Well ole kitty and her ole crew mate think ye will stay on skype as we grew tired of comments about booty and ye not talking about skelly heads and golden trinkets.

  • Idea:

5% loot/rep bonus for using game chat instead of party chat?

  • @trendyemperor83

Then they'll just leave party chat to cash in and go back after.

Make like Moses and part the seas, sir.

  • If we be discussing a gamechat only server how aboat a txt chat tune up with auto translation such as with that google and the like 👀👀

  • Refined Idea:

Playing in game chat increases chances of finding better loot

  • @trendyemperor83 I think that is a bad idea, sorry.

  • @trendyemperor83

  • @combatxkitty @Olde-Waki
Lol, I tried; I just feel that separating the playerbase even more after xbox opt out isn't a great use of resources at Rare. Creating an incentive to use game chat rather than party chat could be a lot easier to do than using two factors (platform/chat type) to place your crew in a server.

  • @trendyemperor83

    @trendyemperor83

😁 I hear ye, but the likes of me, who jabber like nobodies' business, are already feeling the divide between ourselves and these legions of silent pirates.

As @Clumsy-George said, they're worse than NPCs as they gives nothing, no love, no hate, just a deafening silence; sad voiceless automatons mirthless in the drone of their business.

Tis not for everyone, (and certainly not for young 'uns) but here be an example of when some streamers stumbled across Olde Waki - https://m.twitch.tv/videos/476567277

Ye might conclude that it's better that the seas fall silent, but Olde Waki wants the worlde we had, teeming with life, not this deafening silence.

Canst the likes of Olde Waki have a server, a veritable worlde no less, where they can breathe the salted, free, air with like-minded souls?

Then the silent souls can do their bidding in the worlde they already own...

  • Posted without comment, wouldn't like to raise me voice upon this silent surf...
