I really enjoy humming pirate tunes when Im chasing down unsuspecting players who I'm convinced are loaded with booty, and I often enjoy just listening to the NPCs hum the Sea Of Thieves themesong.
So would you be aboard with licensing some more pirate music? Allow me to suggest "You are a pirate" by Lazy Town series, and the "Popeye the Sailor" theme. I'm sure there are many others. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme would be obvious, but might get a bit expensive - but man that would be so amazing!
Please up-vote this if you like it people. Let's get some licensed pirate music in here.
Suggestion to Devs: Licensed pirate music.

need this as a shanty :D
or this

@closinghare208 like it
I do too
@closinghare208 This will never happen. I'd much prefer new original tunes because the game needs it's own personality and it would just be disrespectful to everything the devs worked to build.

what are you talking about context please

A better idea would be to use actual old shanties that are not licensed and public domain, as in many that are used in AC 4: Black Flag.
So it's been done before then. If Rare did it here people would just see it as copying-catting.

Rare has an amazing, in-house audio team...including an Ivor Novello winning composer!
They don't need to pay for music from others and I personally think they are better off for it!
The audio in this game is phenomenal and I would hate to see it 'diluted'.
I seriously doubt they would take it as an insult, but rather as the creative suggestion it was meant as. Anything else and they would be quite the prudes, wouldn't they? The whole game already draws great inspiration from other great pirate related material such as Monkey Island, Pirates of the Caribbean and so on. Why not add a few themes to complement the inspiration?

As if your idea of using licensed music isn't? At least my idea uses more authentic music and would fit the game better once given the Rare treatment.

No reason to feel butthurt. If another pirate game already did this then Rare is most likely not going to do it too. It's not about whos idea is "better".
Anyway I like my idea and I think it would befit the game very well. However it's Rares game and they make the decisions.@roguedk I just don't understand why they would want to pay someone else for music from a kids TV shows/films rather than use the real and original music they have on tap that is already great and fits well with the game.

Because it would be FUNNY! :D - And it would give nod to other creative work that made pirates to popular. I like the original music in SoT too. It's not about that. It was just suggestion to add to the nostalgia and bring smile to peoples faces.
There are already a few non rare made songs in game. I think if they decided to add a few common themes to sot it wluldnt hurt as long as they are not excessive. Like hes a jolly good fellow for home screen or drunken sailer for chest of 1000 grogs. But those are probably free to the public.
Personally I wouldnt mind a minor spin on pirates of the Caribbean put somewhere in sot. I would like the Mariners Revenge theme somewhere but thats me.
