Crew Recruitment

  • Imagine,
When you've voyaged for awhile, you tend to come across another ship and its crew. Your crew has chosen to form an alliance with this crew, and both you and your newfound ally sail together. It's been hours of voyaging and attacking other players, and it happens to be time for your friends to leave; some of the other crew's members have also left leaving you with two galleons with two people aboard each ship. Who wants to run a galleon with only two people? Sure, you can hop on one of the ships and abandon the other, but that means if you die you respawn somewhere across the map. Adding a feature as simple as merging crews could be easily done! If you can scuttle a ship and brig a person apart of your own crew, why can't you recruit people to your crew?

If this was too long, a TLDR:

    • Add a feature that allows one crew to recruit other pirates/sailors to their crew if there is room for it.
    • Add a feature that allows two crews to merge into one with the option to choose which ship becomes their new crew's ship.

  • Sounds like both crews have become friends by the time some have to leave, why not add each other on xbox and invite to your game or join their game?

  • The feature is called 'Invite to Game'.

  • That means you need to leave all of your storage crates and stuff behind to start all over again

Not necessarily; just load up a rowboat and/or a storage crate with most of, if not your best, supplies and then place them somewhere where they are not likely to be found. Take your 1 boat that's left and pick it up to resupply.

  • I honestly agree with this as an in-game feature. The current option technically does work but it requires going through hoops instead which isn't that fun, especially for PC users. Having an option in-game to join together is just objectively better, quicker, and easier. There is no reason to NOT upgrade this, unless they just don't have time to do it right now... And even then, it shouldn't be that hard to do, nor would it require too much time.

That's an assumption; try not to make those...

  • I agree. My friends and I do convoys an awful lot, and well, sometimes we need to switch crew around if there are shortages / more ships can be made. Normally, an invite is sent, the person leaves and spends a long time in the loading screen, and finally, loads back into the other ship's crew 5 minutes later.
What if there's a firefight that requires people to move around in order to protect the main ship?
What if there's a shortage of sailors?
What if one ship isn't needed?
This feature is actually needed. I fully agree on its implementation.

Sea of Thieves is an Unreal Engine game. I've done work in the Unreal Engine myself as part of my learning courses for game design and self-teaching. It's a safe assumption. The engine already supports an in-game prompt to change teams for team vs team base shooters, and that is a very small code itself. Doing a similar thing in Sea of Thieves should be similar. The only issue would be how Sea of Thieves itself handles it's teams (crew in this case) in the scripts. That I do not know.

  • @jusey16842 So, while you're supposedly familiar with the engine (forgive me, but I can't just take your word for it), you're still not exactly knowledgeable where it truly counts in this case (that is to say, with the game itself). Again - don't make assumptions. 😅

Again, it's a fair assumption and even if it does take more time than I estimated... It's still worth doing because it makes the game better for everybody. There is no reason to not do it, other than being too busy with something else.

  • @jusey16842 You say there is no reason to not do it, and then immediately contradict yourself?
