My crew and I have at least 9 counts of the Duchess kills not counting specifically at Molten Sands. We have slashed, boomed and burned her to death only to check our stats and see no progress. On one occasion we hunted the island for her wondering why she disappeared. I found her skull and orders by a barrel inside the fort by a walkway. She either was burning or too damaged and died when she came up. Or she got hung up in some way and despawned. Her skull was wedged behind a barrel. Either way the fort is too glitchy for a battle field. Even on the beach sand I killed her there and it didn't count. Thanks for all you do. This game is truly the best game I've played and I go all the way back to Pong. Game on!
Duchess Kills at Molten Sands Not Counting
The count process is broken.
If you kill the Duchess with anything other than a cutlass or gun it won't count.
So don't use fire bombs, kegs and definitely keep her well away from any active geysers or the kill will not count.
Not sure if this is a known issue @Deckhands ?@needsmokes Is it only the Duchess where kegs don't count? Because every time we use kegs for the other ashen lords it definitely counts. I have killed the Duchess at least eight times and of those only four have counted!! This is a horrible and very unfortunate bug when your crew plans their night to do a couple legendary gift voyages for the sole purpose of defeating the Duchess and neither of them count and your whole night is wasted!
So the Dutchess is by far the most challenging commendation of this set. The criteria for it to count is currently very strict. As some have mentioned above, her final blow must be delivered by the player; by means of firearm or cutlass. It also cannot be a keg or fire bomb.
Any 'Guardian' activity that defeats her will cause you not to be awarded a count. This includes Volcanoes, Geysers, Hot water, Lava, and Exploding Barrels(due to falling rocks).
After many failed attempts, I figured out a pretty good system.
Learn the pattern of the islands activities: Earthquake is followed by Geysers and then calm. The next Earthquake is usually followed by an eruption. Try to wake her when it is calm.
Use the Blunder: It takes around 20 shots to defeat her.
If she spawns on the main island; try and lure her into the cave. If she spawns on the south island you can fight her from your ship.
In conclusion, I found the best way to run these missions was on a duo sloop. This meant the difficulty was decreased and you had two chances.
Just keep trying and you will get to 25. Hope this helps.I've just straight up raged quit Sea of Thieves till next month because of this. The amount of times I've sailed all the way across the map to kill her only for the idiot to stand on a water jet and die at the end of the fight, or I get taken out by homing bullets, or bullets that pass threw solid objects and she despawns. It's so stupid.
