I've played this game since launch and have had some very good times within it. However even since the beginning of this game my crew and I have had trouble consistently finding people who want to fight. Moreover, people at all. This leads to the experience of searching for 20 minutes to find someone spread out across the entire map, talking to them or pirating them (either works) until they leave or are sunk. There needs to be more ships, a higher quantity of brigs and galleons compared to sloops, and a higher density of people compared to area to explore. As the game has gotten larger, with the map expansions and all, the density of players has gone down with the area to spread out into increasing and the amount of people per server staying the same. This leads to boring experiences, furthermore hindered by a lack of player engagement in hot-spots such as skull forts and ghost ships, which will stay active for hours every night until my crew does it ourselves. My solution is to raise the player count per server significantly, to provide a better experience for all.
Increase Player Count Per Server
- Not everyone wants to fight or will give you the challenge you, I would presume, want
- Server stability needs to take priority and it's already not great
- If you want to find ships to fight very quickly, there is a mode for that
@sicrobite Then they should fix the servers. I don't know how easy this is but it should be a priority over adding in new content. I would be fine if we didn't have content updates for 3 months but instead worked on getting the servers fixed and added more players in to each server. Maybe 12 ships per server? (3 per region).
@guntblunt
Its not possible. The devs said this recently. There are not enough resources left. They cant even add a single ship more.the devs or whoever controlling this game cant force people to come and play this game, so i'm not sure what it is you're trying to suggest :/ i'm not sure how many servers run at a time, but they do merge them when theres not enough on 1 server. there is alot of pve'ers that want their own server and have stopped playing because they enjoy the game but not the pvp side. it may be called sea of 'thieves' but that doesnt mean everyone wants to play pvp the game is enjoyable without it. if theyre going to fix this game and the servers they are going to have to listen to everyones voices not just the pvpers maybe then the servers will fill up again :)
@nwo-azcrack Did they talk about whether it was possible to upgrade the servers? I don't know if it was but if it was possible I think they might of done it already. Just wondering for future reference.

Na no mentionof an upgrade. Basically it sounded like the game is maxed out. Any little thing they add they have to move stuff around or take something out. They said the ships take the most memory. It was the stream they did with summit not too long ago. I only watched it for this specific topic
@guntblunt i dont think they need to increase player count, more just fix the servers so that the right amount of ships are in each server, i dont think i get in games that actually have a full lobby very often
I agree with higher amount of players 32 players is about right. I think this community is too weak and do not play the game as intended. This is a pirate game "its Sea of Thieves Not Sea of Friends". I hate sailing the seas and not seeing anyone. I agree with everything GuntBlunt said. This community needs to toughen up.
The servers for Sea of Thieves attempt to have 6 ships per server, regardless of crew or ship size. This means that if 6 fully crewed galleons end up in the same server, there will be 24 players on that server. This also means that 6 solo players (of any ship type) can fill up a server. There are a few reasons for this. One of the reasons is because it gives the proper amount of encounters for how long people play to reinforce how the game is supposed to feel. You aren't supposed to encounter other crews nonstop, but you aren't supposed to sail an empty sea, either. Constant server-hoppers are currently messing up the matchmaking, as their quick joining and leaving with temporarily fill a server and the drain it of several crews in a short period of time, sometimes cutting the active ship count to 2 or 3. Another of the reasons for the 6 ship limit is the game's limitations. Ships, being huge physics objects with various moving parts, spawnpoints, visual effects, interactable systems and other things attached to them, are difficult to run. Skeleton ships are even worse, having similar size and intractability with more spawnpoints and several AIs (for both the crew and the ship itself) adding to it. As such, the game cannot handle more ships being in the same server. The final reason I'm going to list here is the game's actual spawning system. As of now, the six ships match nicely to the six outposts that can be spawned at. This helps when a server starts up and is filled, so that all six ships can spawn somewhere where there is not another ship. It also helps prevent players from blockading every outpost on the map to prevent others from being able to play properly. Until other, safer regions can be added, with their own outposts that spawn ships, more ships cannot be added. Given the current types of suggestions we see, this is not entirely likely, but it is possible.
@guntblunt
I've got to strongly disagree on this.
I'm not sure how I see so many people who have problems finding people in the game.
Each time I play I can usually spot a ship within the first five minutes of being on the seas.
Hell, today I saw a ship sail by before I even reached my ship at the outpost dock.
For me personally there is ALMOST always a ship within my sights out in the horizon. Usually a Sloop, but a ship nonetheless.@davy-wood-beard Because of the new update! I'm actually having a lot of fun right now because of that. But my points still stand once the update players leave.
@ultmateragnarok I've seen that point a lot. I doubt that no more ships could POSSIBLY be added. The game runs perfectly and has since launch, with skeleton ships coming in and changing nothing. There is no artificial cap for how many ships can be spawned, and even if there is some "technical limitation" Why has the performance not decreased since the addition of ghost ships? and why does the server not lag when 1 or 2 ghost ships suddenly spawn in? The game can totally handle more ships, and I'd prefer to discuss about whether or not it is a good idea than some bullcrap about server capacity.
Have you ever encountered the glitch where, in a skeleton fleet battle, joining in can cause an infinite black loading screen? Being brigged stops it, and you spawn with no items, clothes, or consumable cap. Dying resets all of this. This is due to too many ships being in one place at the same time, and the game having to figure out what's going on with all of them, and loading you takes the backseat when the ships cause a loop by constantly moving. A bigger map can solve this problem, however if other regions follow the Devil's Roar as an example in player opinion, the issue may never be fixed.
Additionally, the game needs to have as many outposts as ships, to spawn the ships in at different ones should they all spawn simultaneously. Morrow's Peak does not count, as it cannot be spawned at.@lastranger2 said in Increase Player Count Per Server:

Not going to happen, though guy.
We all sail on a sea of salty tears.
