Lost Hours of Fish to Game Design

  • I just spent the last 2 hours fishing. I went to go deposit my latest catch into my storage crate, only to find that it was gone, along with my bait crate. Not stolen. Despawned. Numerous Google searches informed me that crates, as well as all loot, despawn after not being interacted with for 2 hours, and, stupidly, putting items into or taking items out of a storage crate don't count as interacting with the storage crate. You have to pick up the storage crate, which makes no sense. This feels like an obvious oversight. This game encourages catching tons of fish. There are multiple commendations completely centered around catching multiple of every type of fish in the game. However, if you try to accomplish this, your storage crate will just despawn, resetting all of your progress. This isn't loot being stolen, or someone being salty about pirates in a pirate game. This is an obvious oversight, in a game that's been out for years. These are the types of things that make gamers hate developers. These types of things make gamers not trust developers. Things like this make it obvious that the developers have no love for the game, and don't play their own game. You put commendations for catching multiple of every type of fish, and then never fished for 2 hours in your own game? This is ridiculous. I am beyond frustrated. This, on top of many other similar problems in Sea of Thieves, is why it is losing players. The devs don't care. If they did, this would have been fixed already. There are numerous posts detailing this happening to other pirates, going back at least 5 years. I raised a ticket with support about this issue, and they basically told me to go heck myself. I want my battlegills back, and 2 hours of my life back. Thank you for coming to my TED talk

  • I’m confused. I’ve had storage crates on my ship and never touched them for hours upon hours and they remain on my ship. How would they respawn?

I’ve also gone on rowboat missions, crate and row around often never touching the crate because distractions or simply lost at sea and never respawn on me.

So what exactly were you doing….

  • @burnbacon What exactly was I doing? Did you read the post? I was fishing. For battlegills. The storage crate was on the island with me. The timer for loot despawning on land is 2 hours. Loot on your ship doesn't despawn, so your examples aren't really relevant here.

If the crate was on your ship, it should stay as long as you're in-game. If you put the crate(s) on an island or a dock, they have a limit. We discovered this when the new Skulls of Destiny came out. We managed to get a lot of them, and then went to stack FotD. After several stacks, we noticed the skulls on the floor of the fort, started vanishing. That's how we learned, unfortunately.

  • @europa4033 That is the issue that I am trying to get addressed.

Yep. And to echo what you said, even though we interacted with the skulls on the floor of the fort/changing their color (or when you placed fish in the storage crate), it seems that that interaction doesn't "count", and you need to actually pick the item up and place it down again.

  • @europa4033 Exactly. Which makes no sense. This has been an ongoing issue for years. Thank you for contributing your example
