[Updated 8/5] Updated this based on feedback, instead of it being a crew vote, make it a player option to "Allow Damage from Crew".
I've been wanting to duel/practice with my crew for seven years now, since the launch of the game.
[Null]Can we please get this as a new Crew Management option that we all have to Vote for to turn Off/On?[Null]
How fun would it be to turn Friendly Fire on and have epic duel tournaments on your ship with your crew?
Practice weapon combos endlessly.

Like there is no game with duel or opt ff mechanic that is easy to be turned off and on for players. WoW.
Jeeez that enigamtic button "Turn Friendly Fire On" or duel emote that anable to Friendly Fire to first death are so devlish deciving. We should never add them.
And also let's remove exit game button becouse somebody cloud be talked into exiting game with ship full of loot.

And don’t forget an enemy crew appears. You won’t have time to down vote it during combat while your crew is accidentally killing each other with swords and gun shots.
Seems reasonably easy to avoid abuse. It doesn't need to be a crew vote, but each person can decide if they want to be harmed by their own crew. Put a toggle in the crew menu somewhere: "Vulnerable to Friendly Fire - Yes/No". Defaulted to No, obviously. Maybe even put an "are you sure?" type warning if you try to turn it to yes. If you opt in, put a symbol next to your name that your other crew members can see for complete fairness. If a new player gets tricked into turning it on, they can easily revert at any time. If you get attacked by another crew with friendly fire on, well that's on you. I can even imagine some players turning it on for an extra hard mode. Imagine trying to board, while your crewmates cannons can damage you. I wouldn't want to play that way, but some people out there like to make things more challenging.
It's not a feature I am personally interested in, but I can see a few uses if I wanted to test certain techniques under a controlled environment. There are some people out there who really like to TDM with their friends, so let them. Though it's possibly a little redundant with custom servers coming soon.

Same could be said for the scuttle and brig options.
At the end of the day if your own crew is trolling you then you probably weren't gonna be getting much done either way.

@worst-tdmer How is scuttling the same thing? That's a very poor comparison, and a bad faith one. Yes, they both have menu options, but if you're planning to scuttle you are giving up, if you get attacked and friendly fire is on, you won't have the time to go to the menu to defend properly, because you aren't giving up.
Not a poor or bad faith comparison at all, they're worried about other crewmates trolling new/unaware players.
If the worry is trolls convincing unaware players to toggle an option, scuttling is actually worse, as they lose all progress instantly.
@worst-tdmer The game tells you what scuttling does, the game does not tell you that if you get attacked while PvP mode is on you will need to navigate a menu while panicked to turn it off
The game doesn't tell you anything right now, as the option doesn't exist. That warning could be added if this were implemented.
Feels like you're just arguing to argue at this point.

@worst-tdmer At no point during my time in this game have I ever felt like there wasn't enough to do. If you're bored, that's on you. I cannot say that at any point my time would be more valuable by being able to shoot my team mates.

While sailing….and I just read a post of someone running over kegs and sinking. You don’t need these things while sailing on a ship.

And yet. Players always act surprised when a ship, large thing appears and sinks them.
5 seconds is all it takes to turn a ship into a rock floating in the sea.
Maybe someone’s connection prevents it. Maybe they put the choice to turn on and off behind 3-4 clicks? Who to say

@tesiccl that's some strong word's from guy who allways show up in topic like that and in 99% use dev talk about early phase of game ( in crew betreyal mechanic) as bad faith argument against duel mechanic / ff togle.

World of Warcraft has something similar to this, where you just challenge someone to a duel. The fight ends when one player has a single hit point left (they don't actually die). Not sure if this is something they'll actually incorporate into the game, but with custom servers coming, it'll surely be happening there.

This is a great suggestion that should absolutely be implemented. Giving players more options to choose how they want to play will never be a bad thing. I would take it a step further and say let us be able to hit crewmates with boards or fish
Also, literally all of the counter points for it are fringe slippery slope edge cases where a troll (who, if malicious, is going to cause other problems anyways) could possibly trick their crew to abuse it, which is such a weak reason for it not to be implemented and is also easily fixable by having it be an opt-in system for each individual player.
It is entirely like saying that the scuttle button shouldn't exist because someone could possibly trick their crew into sinking themselves, with the exception that a FF option is easier to opt-out if you feel that it is being abused.

So what if dueling crew sink becouse they all had FF on? Tough luck then. GG and move one. Same as being target couse you vote emissary.

Your argument is invalid for a sandbox game. The same logic could be applied to gunpowder barrels. With your logic, we shouldn't be allowed to bring gunpowder barrels on ships because an enemy crew might unexpectedly roll up on us and blow it up.
And the brig, people can vote a crewmate into the brig; as a joke or for a real matter...and then a ship can approach and now everyone has to fumble in the menu to unlock them from the brig...and that feature is CURRENTLY IN THE GAME.
Part of deciding to turn friendly fire on is knowing that if you get into combat, you might kill each other if you aren't careful. If you DECIDE to turn it on, watching your surroundings is up to you, and then taking 1.5 seconds to open the menu and turn it off if you see a ship approaching. Simple.
Again, it's YOUR CHOICE. I can't for the life of me wrap my brain around any single person not wanting to be able to experiment with this and have fun dueling their crew mates. I'm at a loss for words that there is even a single person arguing against this. Thankfully, you're in the minority though and most here see this as a great addition to the game.
@tesiccl [mod edit]. This makes no sense what you're saying. It would be a choice to turn it on. Currently there are plenty of ways to grief and annoy crew members in open crew. What makes this any different except you'd have a choice. I can go into open crew right now and lower the anchor every moment I can, I can set the whole ship on fire, I can take blunderbombs and kill my crew that way. So what you're saying doesnt make any sense.

And before you say practice - well, queue up for HG, and you'll have all the practice you need.
This game has no competitive scene, so the entire premise of "training" by fighting your own crew instead of enemy crews is pointless. What are you training for? 😂
It's a cartoon pirate game, not a DotA, CS or WoW tournament. Doesn't even have a ranking system.
Chill and enjoy the game, you're taking it too seriously lol

This could potentially change when they release private servers, though I seriously doubt it. If they released them 4-5y ago it would've had a better chance.
