Emote to Duel - Sword Fighting practice

  • @captnsuperdave that’s exactly what I’m saying :)

  • @fgfoot There's more framework to support it now. This being a live game rather than an early access means they need to curate things a lot more before introducing them. They probably didn't even know if they wanted to add it in the first place let alone consider prioritizing the discussion over eating the meals already on the plate.

I could easily see them doing the monkey island heal animation thing and adding an emote/interactible on the ship. It'll be like stools and just randomly be tacked on to something that has nothing to do with it.

  • @tesiccl
That maybe a problem on open crew for a new player. However, they would fall for it once.

This gets suggested about once every three weeks. The arguments against it are weak tea at best. Most want it. I would love for Rare to weigh in on this or set up a FAQ/FMS thread address these suggestions and prevent ground hog arguments.

AS for Rare saying no to something. Two word response: Safer Seas.

  • @miserenz sailing with a crew is about the bond you make, not just fighting each other cause you’re bored of forcing others to fight you and threaten to brig them if you don’t.

Regarding Safer Seas, look how heavily compromised it is. Rare clearly don’t want to do it but they’re giving the players who are asking something to keep them happy. I’m not saying either fighting your own crew will never be possible, but if they introduce it, I will be advocating for zero exploits or abuse, and if they can’t promise that, then the testers will rightly call them out for it.

  • @tesiccl The above post clearly states that both players must use an emote to start the duel. If somebody tricks a new player like that and kills them, it doesn't matter, because after death, you will most likely have to emote again to start the new duel. Anyone can bully new players in their own crew by blunder-bombing anyway. I for one, think the duel suggestion is something we all need.

  • @captnsuperdave
Not sure why so many people are against this

It’s a mutual agreement to duel, nothing is forced. Once the duel is over that’s it. Seems like a 10/10 addition to the game!

  • @miserenz his argument is very weak. 3 people can bully somebody in the brig for anything, let alone a duel. At the end of the day, we can blunder-bomb our teammates and fire-bomb them too. Rare wouldn't get rid of that, lol. A nice duel mechanic in your crew is probably one of the best Ideas that I have seen on this page. The people who argue against these posts, argue against every post. I have no idea why.

When ideas are bad, I’ll call them out, when they’re good, I’ll agree.

  • @tesiccl Its generally a great idea. Your argument is bullying, and my counter to that is that blunder bombs and fire bombs still exist, and those are well-loved additions to the game. Nothing is better then getting blunder bombed off my boat by my crew member while I stay on the Bowsprit too long.

  • @whalelordgames that’s being toxic…

  • How about they fix the stairs and put some sort of dueling 'ring' there? Some random door on port Merrick.

I would also be a little bit concerned that if you make this available anywhere on demand and players can't die, cheat makers might find a way to implement it to their software.

Idk, a lot of ideas are great, some are ok, some are bad, thing is there is a limit to how many things rare can and want to put in game suggested by other people.

I would personally love to have some kind of in-land TDM mode, but a lot of people don't :D

  • @tesiccl it gives us a shared laugh. Toxic is me getting killed and sunk while fishing for no apparent reason, but you don't see me advocating against it. its part of the game, and sometimes its bad, but most of the time its good.

  • @whalelordgames don’t you sound like the exact type of player I’d leave the crew for and report. No thanks 🚮

  • @tesiccl What are you on about? I am always an alliance-first kind of guy; I'm just stating how your counterargument is very weak. You shouldn't rule out a suggestion because there's a handful of bad eggs in a community, because then you are just robbing the mass player base of an amazing feature.

  • @tesiccl I get that my idea hadn't considered the potential for shenanigans in open crews which is my ignorance ,I haven't opened crewed since before the sloop became a thing. But to declare it equivocally a bad idea.....

    C'mon man.

If that is your reason to not add it, for the same reason in an open crew, crew members should not be able to: touch other crew members loot, use resource crates or vote to start or cancel missions.

While I understand it's not bananas for bananas, as some of these are core components of the game, there is the exact same chance of toxicity by maliciously performing these actions.

  • @captnsuperdave These are amazing points. I just used blunder bombs because it was the most obvious example, but you're input goes to show that at the end of the day, this is a game where you're free to do what you want, and shouldn't be restricted.

  • This would be a very nice addition, and I'm quite baffled we can't practice fighting with my crew mates in a friendly manner.

Sorry @heslashthem but your argument just doesn't work at all to me, as the duel implies both parties have agreed to it. There's literally no exclusive kind of toxicity it could bring out as long as the rules are properly set in advance. If anything, it is the very decision not to add this which spawned toxic TDM'ers constantly spawn-killing other players way below their skill levels, just because those TDM'ers concretely have no other target practice available.
I'd argue that is much more concerning than whatever hypothetical shenanigans a new duel feature would bring - and again, shenanigans are supposed to be part of the experience.
