Food inventory Issue

  • The other night I was playing with friends and we were doing a Skull fort. While I was on boat watch, I decided to take advantage of the time to fish for some Battle Gills. I caught a Trophy Bittersweet Battle Gill. I cooked it by the book and then carried it on me. Lesson Learned, Big Mistake!! In the midst of combat, I accidentally ate the fish while trying to regain some health. But after thinking about it and re-watching what happened, I realized that this shouldn't have happened because I took the extra second to choose an edible item from my inventory to eat vs using the quick select menu, and while I had 4 bananas on my person at that time, after eating one banana, it switched on it's own to the fish. I'm almost dead and scrambling to eat to keep from dying and in the process ate a Trophy fish that I never selected to eat. Now I know the simple suggestion is to not carry the fish on my person, however if I have more than one of a particular item, in this case I had 4 bananas, and I choose that specific Item in the item list to eat, it should never switch to another food item until I have exhausted that specific item. Can something be done to fix this?

  • I appreciate carrying fish as food and to keep them from being stolen, but I agree that the food priority should be fruit first, then meat. I think putting meat first prioritizes a greater healing need, but you also lose what you worked for and could later sell. I would rather forfeit my life to save my prize than eat it by mistake.

  • @schunckadunk you chose to eat 1 banana, not your stack of bananas. after making a manual selection it's going to revert to newest in your inventory.

  • @captain-coel

No, he chose to eat a banana, and after eating it, automatically pulled out a different food type despite specifying he wanted to eat bananas.

I bolded your statement. he chose to eat a singular banana then he went to the food icon, and got his most recent acquired food. The game doesnt save your one time food choice. if you want to eat food in a certain order you need to prepare yourself accordingly

  • @captain-coel

I hit the Tab key to bring up the item inventory and I clicked on banana, from there I continued to eat what I assumed would keep bringing up a banana. I didn't use the Q to select the next item. Right after I ate the first banana, it auto switched to the fish, then went back to the bananas. I can go back to my stream when I have some time and I can clip that part out to show how it happened.

  • Here is the highlight I just made of the incident. I started it just before and a little after when Oldratbeard made me aware of what I had just done. You will see that I not only selected to eat the banana, but it auto switched to the fish then went back to the banana.

Something does indeed need to be done about prioritization of which item is pulled next. It is always defaulting to something raw, or something that was not meant to be eaten.

  • @schunckadunk still you chose to eat a singular banana. the game defaults to the newest acquired food.

  • @fluidsc it prioritizes the most recently acquired food.

  • He chose to eat bananas... not a single banana. I don't think, technically, that the game is prioritizing anything... At the very least, it should remain on the type of food you are on if you have more than one when moving from what you just ate to the next.

And this is why I am making the suggestion that it be fixed. It is a broken system to be in the heat of battle and needing to heal up quickly only to eat an item that wasnt intended to be eaten. If you select a specific consumable in your inventory, it should stay on that item unless you either choose another in the inventory. I can live with it if I used the quick item, but thats not the case here.

  • @schunckadunk but it's not broken. the system is that unless you select each food it defaults to the newest acquired in your inventory. knowing that allows you to build what order you fill your food

I usually opt for 1 pineapple 1 mango and 3 pomegranates. after that they just aren't that useful.

Bananas and coconuts are for after the fight when you can just eat a pile of them

  • @captain-coel thats all fine and dandy if you have the time to sit and micromanage the inventory, however in the middle of battle, you cant stop everything going on to make sure your inventory is in order every time you peak into a barrel and grab items.

Except that you cannot just eat a pile of them, because it will change after you eat the first one.

  • @fluidsc I swap my inventory for 5 bananas and go to town.
