Teleporting and stuttering issues.

  • When I first started playing, I noticed I was teleporting a lot, and having ping problems, and I stopped playing for some hours and then returned. It's excused to say that I still had the problem. My internet is fast and good enough to handle 4K streaming, so I don't really understand if it's a SoT servers' problem or if it's my problem :/

  • @rainezipt Sometimes servers have problems and put you in servers which give you high ping, I notice the problem most in arena but yeah from what I have seen you will just have to learn how to deal with ping sadly, avoid those blunderbussers :P Those instant kills can be deadly when you have high ping

  • @RaineziPT

Edit: Quick question, where are you from? Some regions don't have dedicated servers which will almost assuredly add 50-100ms to your ping.

i have issues too with teleporting and stuttering, but i think mine might be due mostly to problems with my ISP. I have fast internet, but i experience packet loss which is in no way related to internet speed. The faster your internet, the more packets per second, but packet loss and time for the packets to travel back and forth from you to the server (ping) are what you are experiencing as lag.

I think xbox and xbox app for sure has a feature to test connection, you should see if your ping is high there after multiple tests or if you have packet loss above 0-5%.

DSL reports also has a great tool to test connectivity. You can test your home internet from any device to diagnose the issue better. SOT isn't known for great servers, so even with no issues on your end you might still experience lag.

  • I think it's more on the console side. I have it on PC and Xbox. I can tell you that it definitely runs like [mod edit] on console. I don't know how Rare is going to be able to keep releasing content for the current gen consoles if they can barely run the game. If they do, these consoles are going to be holding the game back due to memory limitations. They already do. I have no issues on PC.

  • @calicorsaircat I'm from Portugal, probably your speculation is what's happening, my ping's probably higher because there isn't any dedicated servers here, but my friends have perfect ping anyways...

  • @jofjjay Arena is horrible. I've played 1000's of hours in adventure with only minor lag issues. In Arena today I played 5 matches and got disconnected 3 times! I am on console so I'm sure that doesn't help but wow it was bad!

  • @duke-of-spire Yeah I have a lot of problems with arena lag wise and it has awful matchmaking so I don't play it that often anymore

  • Streaming is different than video gaming. It loads and buffers. I am a power node technician for a local broadband company. Simply saying my internet is fast and capable means nothing. You could have some type of impairment with your service provider.

  • @andyxxpanda1290 I have a question for you. Wouldn't the lag be the same in both Arena and Adventure if the problem was with the service provider? My take is exactly what RARE's Technical Director has stated...... "The biggest drain on the servers is player to ship interaction" . In Arena there's more players per server than most adventure servers meaning player ship interaction is increased. If RARE can't find a way to circumvent this problem then we'll never get ship expansion within the servers. As the map expands so should the number of ships on it. This is going to be a huge problem going forward.

  • @rainezipt

I have been getting hazelnut beard left and right for the past week, and several instances where the world around me freezes and the ship starts to float away every 30 minutes or so. I don't think it's Sea of Thieves specifically, Xbox Live services have been running like hot garbage lately. I feel bad for all of the people that are paying for Xbox Live currently because it's 50/50 whether it will be working or not... Inexcusable for that service not to run more reliably than it does when people are paying a subscription to use it.

  • @Duke-of-Spire frim My understanding arena has separate servers. You you get the IP address and do a trace route to both ips you can see there’s any issues from you to the server. It’s not a direct feed straight to that server you make so many hops before you get there.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying it’s not the game. All I’m saying is check all possibilities before blaming the game. As I said I personally have had no issues lately.

  • I think it internet since I have bad internet I concluded it was the internet.
