The Klabautermann
The Klabautermann, pronounced /klaˈbaʊ̯tɐˌman/, is a “water kobold” and is sometimes referred to as a “water fairy/spirit”.
The Klabautermann is a humanoid like creature sometimes describe as looking like blend of a merman and a fisherman, some describe him as looking very similar to a less scary grim reaper. The Klabautermann is always describe the same with what they are wearing, they are said look smaller than an average person, they are seen wearing a sailors raincoat, a wool sailors hat. They usually have a long bushy sailor beard, he's also said to always be carrying a hammer with as woden pipe in his mouth.
The Klabautermann is said to appear in our realm when a very well kept ship meets its doom, its said the creature is the soul of a well kept ship. The Klabautermann is a merry and diligent character that warns sailors when the ship is in danger or sometimes just to help out.He is also loved among the ship for their remarkably beautiful music talents. Though the creature is just around to help in need sailors that doesn't mean he wont turn on the crew, if the Klabautermann is hurt by your crew the ship will most surely sink.
The Klabautermann Incorporated in Sea of Thieves
The Klabautermann could be a helpful little character for the newer players of SOT, He would only help players that are below pirate legend, or only help a pirate legend if they are by themselves on any ship larger than a sloop. He could be a cheery little guy that will help fix the boat and angle the sails in the proper direction of the wind if not already (I know I struggled with the direction of the wind alot when I was new to the game). The Klabautermann won't just appear for any player though, He should only go on a ship that has been in game for maybe longer than an hour, and still havent made a single coin. He will stay for your entirety of you missions and leaves once you go back to an outpost or once the crew has completed X amount of voyages. The klabautermann should have the ability to fix the ship, angel the sails, fight skeletons, fight krakens, and after X amount of time of looking for a treasure chest with no luck the Klabautermann will start randomly digging near when the treasure is until he randomly stumbles on to it or the player finds it by seeing where the Klabautermann is digging in the area of. Though will all of the things the friendly little creature helps with, he does have a downside, If player decide they want to kill the Klabautermann he will pop 3-6 Holes on the ship (not to mention it's in the lore that if you hurt them they will sink the ship)
I know this Idea might seem almost too helpful but this late in the game it can be very unmotivating when everyone seems to be pirate legend and your ship constantly gets taken over. This would also be a very helpful mechanic for younger players, I also know it can be very hard to find buried treasure for newcomers. The pirate legends have their own hang out, the new players need something to make them feel special. The Klabautermann is hope for the players wanting to get there way to pirate legends.
