Ever since the fog banks got added to the game I've felt this emptiness as I sailed through them pondering what that emptiness was. Today it hit me. We need a couple of lighthouses to go along with the island beacons! I thought of two places they'd be handy.
The first place is Northeast between Old Faithful and Marauders. This part of the Wilds are a dreary and dangerous place to manuever. There are many rock formations to go along with 2 smaller islands. A light house in this area makes perfect sense.
The other area I was thinking of would be in the Southwest of Devils Roar near the large rock formation east of Ancient Spire and Northeast of Devils Ridge. I'd love for these lighthouses to be large enough to explore and maybe have some lore to them. Thoughts?
2 lighthouses
I like the general idea of light houses, however for me a large beacon idea seems to suit better rather than the traditional bricks & mortar strobing light version.
Most likely manned by NPC's helping those on the Seas, if there was fog possibly the addition of a loud low tone horn would add to the experience.
Just my thoughts.
@piratecraggy I love the idea of horns! I was thinking more of the King Henri design back in the 1600's flames and mirrors type thing. I'd love for the stairwells to have portraits of those who have put their hearts into this game like @Kat-Truewalkerr & @lizalaroo . I think it would be a great way of honoring them. It would also add lore and an eeriness to the lighthouse. Rocks, crashing waves, a ghostly wail at midnight. Fog horns on the game hour. 😉 Man I'm juiced just thinking about it!
Well a little search... I came up with this
Fits the 1600's era... you mentioned. It's starting to grow on me.
The fact, the existence of lighthouses stretches way back to the greek period, certainly an idea that has been about for a long time.
So... why not, enriches the world & keeps a Pirate safe.@cpt-parr0t-head Love the idea of lighthouses! And we have lanterns to light them already. The locations would be about right too. Just think how eerie it would look with the light stretching out to sea when the fog rolls in. :D
@lizalaroo The light cutting through a dense fog as your ship winds through the jettys'! What an atmosphere! Then the fog horn blares out its one long tune and scares the bejesus out of the whole crew! 👀 The Lighthouse I was referring to was " The Corouon Lighthouse" but a custom Sea of Thieves lighthouse might be even better with skulls engrained in its foundation and maybe a cellar entry to the catacombs!😂 This could be so much fun!
A couple lighthouses would be nice. Players would have to keep them lighted. I picture them with a bonfire at the top. Maybe we could collect the wood in order to light the fire. The areas around them are always surrounded by long periods of dense fog. Things are more treacherous without them being lit. Maybe even keeping them burning could have an in game benefit of triggering certain kind of events.
On a similar note I would like fog in general to occur more often than it is encountered now.
Maybe they could add another new area -- very rocky, difficult to maneuver, and perpetually swathed in fog...A grand lighthouse in the center of the area, maybe just tall enough that its light can be faintly seen from anywhere in this new area (maybe it would be the only outpost for the area?). And the real plot twist? All of the islands/destinations are at least partially underwater. Could be the perfect ambience to introduce mermaids as AI threats...
