Give Eye of Reach melee attack...

  • There have been lots of complaints about the modifications to the Eye of Reach since the last patch. I can totally empathize with the frustration of the new EOR hip-fire. There is always going to be a need for less accuracy for hip-fire than scoped but this seems pretty ridiculous.

    At the same time, I understand the developers desire to balance the weapons so that they each have their own uses and previously the EOR was a bit overpowered as an all-purpose weapon. In order to balance the EOR the way they wanted, the developers considered not allowing the EOR to be hip-fired at all but instead just made it ridiculously random so that at least it did something when you pressed the button. Of course the result is that you should never hip-fire the EOR because you won't hit anything and you will just be forced to wait through another reload animation. (So instead of making the button do nothing, you are now punished for pressing the button.)

    I would suggest that as a way to satisfy both of these views, the hip-fire of the EOR should be changed to a melee attack. I envision that you could hit other pirates with the butt of your rifle. I think it would work if it did the same amount of damage as one sword swipe, with no 3-hit combo ability, but it would also have a knock-back effect.

    tl;dr = EOR needed balancing, hip-fire is now horrible, make it a melee attack instead

    Yeah I suggested that if you are at close range with the EoR that the damage be scaled back and then multiplied by distance. So at very close range make it less than a pistol, at med range same as pistol and at long rage do the 70 damage.

  • @little-squash Yeah I understand what you suggest, would be pretty cool, the animation won't be hard to make, you hit him and a small knock back would help you to scope in and hit him once?
    Could be a cool combo, then change to the cutlass to finish him off.

    Also it would be really interesting if you could actually do this or a sword lunge into a player carrying a chest and apply a small knock back that will make him drop the chest (or whatever object he's carrying) so you can steal it from him. Good tactict when you are chasing someone at an oupost that wants to cash items in.

  • I was suspicious at first, but I actually think this is a great idea. The whole point of making hip-firing so inaccurate was that they wanted to make the game feel responsive, so they wanted the "fire" button to do something, but they didn't want it to be useful at all so as to keep the sniper from being a one-size-fits-all weapon. This would accomplish the same goal, without the irritating and immersion-breaking side-effect of the bullet coming out of the muzzle at a 45 degree angle. Great job!

  • The Eye of Reach is a long distance weapon. Not an all purpose room clearing device. So if it has a melee attack but no three piece what’s to stop everyone from all just running EoR and just spamming melee and shooting at moving running targets?

    This is a Pirate game after all. If you want gun play there are plenty of other games that do gunplay mechanics better. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and suggestions which is welcomed on a forum of passionate players. With that said I’ve read a lot of posts regarding guns and feel everyone is going about the changes the wrong way.

    The game isn’t supposed to be a twitch shooter. Sure you can pull off a good quick shot once in awhile but in the end this is not a competitive game. I made the mistake when this released of trying to play this competitive coming from other games like the Division and Battlefield. It frustrated me and made the experience feel bad. Then I played it for what it is...
