Revenge of the Sloop

  • So yesterday a couple of friends and me were sailing the seas in search of nothing in particular. A fort shows up and we decide to head over there to complete it.
Once it was close enough I notice a small sloop. We approach the island and offer alliance to whomever was on that sloop. A solo player was attempting to complete the fort, we didn't fire on him nor did he fire on us, thus the alliance was formed.
He asked us " You are not trying to complete the fort then betray me and take everything are you?" We responded with a NO even though one of our guys wanted to take him out after completion of the fort and as a sort of "mercy" on him not disband the alliance so he could get some of the loot. I obviously not being the mean pirate others are, just wanted to give him half of the treasure and offered to give him the bone chest and skull and we keep the barrell and spice crate, but this was only a suggestion of what would happen once completed. Anyways we started working towards completing the fort, not knowing the storm that was about to embellish us.

So after a few waves of skeletons we notice a ghost ship aproaching as well as a storm. One of our guys decided to fire on the ghost ship so it would attack us and the sloop and that way giving us an excuse to let his ship sink or just create enough chaos to get rid of him, and yes it was the same guy that did not want to share the loot with him.
After some confusion and some canonballs to our ship, one of our guys goes to repair our brigantine and as he is attempting to patch he gets gunned down by the guy in the sloop. I guess he had the same idea perhaps? But obviously it didn't end well for him, our other crewmate takes him out and I sink his ship. We naturally disband the alliance, and end of story or so we believed.

We finish the fort, load up the treasure and sail towards the outpost which is the very next island next to us. As we approach and are preparing to unload and sell the items the Kraken shows up and another storm! we laugh kinda knowing this was expected as he never shows up when we have nothing.
Except this Kraken was so agresive so unrelenting, we have never gone up such a devastating Kraken, we couldn't even toss the water out of our ship due to the constant hits shaking our ship and the grasp he had on us.
He also absorbed all 3 of us at the same time, so we basically had no chance and no rowboat...
We died one after the other. We finally re-spawned fairly close to the Kraken and the storm and hoped that if we hurry back we might be able to save some of the loot.
As we are nearing the chaos, the storm starts to move away and the Kraken dives back down to the depths. We cheer and gasp in awe since all our treasure is still there floating, some of it sinking but we manage to save it.

Sooo after the task of attempting to load our treasure we all of a sudden get migrated to another server!!
We thought oh no! we lost our loot that was not loaded. But no worries the treasure was also migrated and floating in the water.
But guess what? A Kraken also spawns and this time he was twice as mean, he sunk us immediately, no chance of repair, no chance at nothing, not a single canon fired off due to him hitting our ship the second he showed up and absorbing 2 our crew as well. All this within the first few seconds of him showing up.

We lost hope as well as our lives and our ship. We re-spawned close enough again, we decide to go back just for the sake of it since the Kraken was within view, as we approach he leaves again.
So we manage to see our loot and to our surprise the Spice chest and the expensive barrel were the only things left.
Oddly enough it was the only two things I initially said we would take. We eerily joked this was the sloop that cursed us due to the back stabbing one of us suggested on him before we even began XD.

  • Your sloop guy is nicer than me. I would have tried to sneak a gunpowder barrel or two onto your galleon while you were all busy with the skellies and pop you full of holes at the end lol.
I have staged many double crossings. Been successful in all of them. It feels a bit dirty but I try to balance it out by giving new pirates I run into the odd free chest, skull or athenas voyage. Etc.
I giveth and I taketh away? Lol

  • @cmm-solo I've gotten to the point where killing anyone who does not attack me feel pointless. I mean if you think about it, you gain nothing, i don't feel good for taking out some unlucky pirats who is just going about his business collecting chickens or turning in a few chests.
However there are those toxic players that make you feel good when you take em out.
    But that's just me.

  • I see where you are coming from. Personally I see this game as a bit of fun that can occasionally get a bit exhilarating. I think my behaviour in real life would be far different than my imaginary pirate, in an imaginary video game world. We all have the freedom to be terrors of the sea or good honourable pirates who like to play at sea of friends. I'm a bit of both. Dark and light. In this game, there is increasing threats other than other players now which is great but generally speaking and long before all the updates, the only real excitement came from feeling constant unrest at the site of sails in the distance and there is a big part of me that thinks that aspect is still what makes this game so successful and so fun to play now.
I dont think attacking other players is toxic at all. Regardless of what they are doing. I think piratey bad guys deliver players an experience which before all the updates was the only real risk you faced, other than skelly's on land. Some of my best memories in the beginning, like beta beginning, was being chased down by galleons while I was still learning how the game worked on a sloop. I thought getting sunk and left to the mercy of the sea was amazing. Visiting the ferry was also really cool. I liked Swimming back to land and trying to hide my treasures in bushes so that I could come back and try to reclaim them, it was and still is just all good fun. Little things that added a survival element made me a better and more cautious player too and it's thanks to combative players.
This word 'toxic' is thrown around way too much. It should really be reserved for people who are actually toxic, not simply playing as a bad guy for the day in a game about sinking ships and stealing treasure from other players, but that's just me. 😜✌️
