Sea of Thieves CNC on OAK

  • Just made this art board on my CNC. Still need to finish cutting the piece to the right size. Looks good.
Anxious waiting for my invite now.

Nice piece! Any ideas on how (or if) you want to stain it? There's a really cool "antiqued" stain you can make using new stain and used motor oil. I know, it might sound crazy but, it looks amazing once it's set / dried.

I prefer working with wood because it's natural and I tend to get unexpected beauty out of almost every piece I've ever done. Wish I had access to a CNC machine though. I'd never run out of projects.

  • @Ev1l5anta Wow! That is so cool! Nice work :)

  • @Ev1l5anta Great job on that, it looks really cool!

  • @Ev1l5anta:

    that looks gorgeous R')

how long did it take from conception to final?? what would be the likelihood of you painting some parts of it or are you planning on staining as @xDILLIGAFx1974 asked about? And how big is it? You can always try to send it to RARRRE for the to hang it proudly in the tavern or over Mike's mantle ;'D

  • Nice piece!

  • @CaptnJaq I have stained the bottom... cheap job. It was quite easy to create the model. I copied the logo from the website, converted to BW and then to trace. Imported the trace into Fusion360 and created the model. About 40min. This was my first complex CNC and it took a couple tries. I run 3 different bits. 1st pass to take most of the material with 1/4 and then I run a 1/16 to go into the small spaces and finally run a 45o V chamfer to remove the burr as I had run the 1/16 too fast for oak. Piece is about 12in x 6in. I will try to find stock of soft wood to do it again and will take the time to seal before trying to stain. I'm just starting with woodworking and CNC. I really want to do some brass coins now.

  • @Ev1l5anta awesome,priceless !

  • And I received my invitation for the technical alpha... Very happy. Hope I can join tomorrow.

  • @Ev1l5anta Amazing work! :D

  • Awesome work! What type of mill do you run?
